It’s not as hot today here in the CatBox. Yesterday the high at the airport was 99°, but downtown, where I am, it reached 103°. Today will be in the high 80°s. I still feel frustrated and depressed, but I’m back in the saddle anyway.

It’s already hot, here in the CatBox. We set a record yesterday, and today will be even hotter, forecast at 99°. It may even top 100°. I need to take one more day off because of the heat, and because I still have to undo a bunch of changes I made in preparation for the move. I’m also tired, because there was a microwave fire in the building last night. I hope to be back in the saddle tomorrow.

From Huffington Post: Biden, who is leading a crowded pack of Democrats hoping to unseat Trump next year, referenced criticism he had received from some of his presidential competitors for being, in his words, “stuck in the past” by talking about working with congressional Republicans on the campaign trail.

“With Trump gone, you’re going to begin to see things change. Because these folks know better. They know this isn’t what they’re supposed to be doing,” Biden said of Republicans in Congress at a Monday fundraiser in Washington.

Biden could not be more wrong. Republicans were anything but bipartisan, when America had a President (Obama), not just a fascist Resident, unless we go by the Republican definition of bipartisanship:

I have terrible news. They cancelled my move, because of a paperwork glitch. They did the paperwork for a Fair Market Unit. To qualify I need < 50% of a median household income. I do quality. The temporary unit I was going to, until a fair unit in the building is available, is a Hooper Detox unit. The government subsidy rep refused to sign off on treating the unit as temporary and insisted I meet the qualifications for that unit, which is < 40% of median household income. I don’t qualify. They explained my disabilities and how they had to put me in an inadequate unit here. The government subsidy rep didn’t care. I must have gotten a damn Republican. I will get the next fair market unit that opens there, be it in a day or a year. I’m so frustrated! This is my only article today. I just need a day to cry and get my head around this. AAAARRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

From The New Yorker: Donald Trump has reached a groundbreaking deal with the Hawaiian Islands to make them the nation’s fiftieth state, Trump confirmed on Monday.

Calling it “my most incredible deal yet,” Trump said that he had forced Hawaii to bend to his will and “cough up billions” to become a state.

“This is a big win for our country,” Trump told reporters at the White House. “Hawaii is going to be a beautiful and amazing state.”

Just minutes after his announcement, however, there was significant pushback from Hawaii, which claimed that it had already reached a deal to become a state in 1959.

That claim swiftly drew the ire of Trump, who denounced Hawaii’s alleged sixty years of statehood as “fake news” and “disgraceful.”

Dang Andy! If the Fuhrer steals the 2020 election, Hawaii will agree that it’s fake news and stay out. RESIST!!

Defrauded Again!

A few days ago the Orange Cheato Bandito, aka Fuhrer Drumpfenfarten, expounded at length about how his tariff threats had made Mexico back down. He said his wisdom had helped protect us all from all the vile evils that cross the border with those sub-human refugees. It turns out that this happened completely differently from Trump’s claim. He, not the Mexicans, was the one that backed down.

President Donald Trump took a victory lap this weekend for an 11th hour Mexico trade and immigration deal that narrowly averted the imposition of tariffs by Washington on its southern neighbor.

But as a senior Democratic lawmaker explained on Sunday, rather than bending Mexico to his will, the agreement ultimately amounted to a cave-in by the president to his fellow GOP lawmakers, who over the past few several days have objected strenuously to the proposed tariffs.

And news reports said Sunday that the agreement reached by negotiators actually just reaffirmed a deal already agreed upon by Washington and Mexico City… [emphasis added]

It’s another busy day here at the CatBox. Unit 245 is a much smaller unit than Unit 215 was. It is big enough to meet my needs, albeit barely. The bathroom, on the other hand, is magnificent. I can’t wait to break in my new throne, and it has a roll in shower. I would have taken pictures, bur when I reached into the pouch on my wheel chair, I discovered that my iPhone was still sitting on my bed here. ARGH! I’ll be going back there tomorrow with Anne, a CCC Rep., to sigh paperwork, get keys, pay and take possession. I’ll take pics then. For that reason, I’ll be posting only a Personal Update with no links messages on Care2. The trip back may be gruesome. We have 96° forecast. Oh God it’s Monday!

From TPM: Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao cleared the path for projects that would specifically benefit Kentucky and thus, her husband Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) ahead of his 2020 reelection bid.

According to Politico, these arranged grants ultimately topped $78 million.

Chao assigned her aide Todd Inman to be the special liaison for Kentucky projects, a perk that other states did not enjoy and which helped channel money and attention into the Bluegrass state.

From The New Yorker: A British woman quit her job, on Friday, after being forced to spend the better part of a week with Donald J. Trump, the woman has confirmed.

Speaking to reporters at her office in London, the woman said that, although she had spent years trying to get the job, having to endure several days in the company of Trump convinced her that “life is too short.”

“When I started this job, I knew that a certain amount of my responsibilities would involve dealing with members of the public,” she said. “But had I known that I also would have to spend hours listening to Donald Trump talk, I certainly would have applied for a different position.”

So she quit after almost a week, Andy? What took her so long? RESIST!!

PHP is a programming language used to build websites. We have it at all through our hosting partner, BlueHost. In order to update it, we have to go through Bluehost. During his life, TomCat was the only one who had access to our account there. I (JD) am now the only one. I have been to BlueHost and investigated updating our PHP to 8.3 or even to 8.1. I found instructions to do so - in fact, I found two conflicting sets of instructions. I went through one set of the steps and got the message that Our site could not handle 8.3, but that it had successfully updated to 8.1. I then went back here to see what it looked like. But I couldn't get in - either as an administrator or as a reader. It was just gone. I had to reach BlueHost by phone. It was determined that Politics Plus is in fact not compatible with any version of PHP newer than the one we have. BlueHost therefore uninstalled it for me, and the site came back to normal. Of course, like everyone else, I care about security. But I also am aware that TomCat elected to use different providers for several of the services that BlueHost provides, for instance backups. We are backed up daily - but not by BlueHost. However, out PHP is through Bluehost. I feel that if they are not worried about the older version, I am not going to worry about it. I believe that our security here is all or mostly through WordFence, whom I trust.
