Yesterday, I heard back from BlueHost, and it appears I need some documenttion I don’t have. So I’ll be working without their help at this time. Oh well. We will get through. I’ll work on getting what I don’t have, or a reasonable substitute.

Short Takes

Crooks and Liars – Mom And Son Kept Off Plane– Because Of Knives Hidden In Toy
Quote – TSA officers at the Philadelphia International Airport stopped a Cortland, NY woman and her young son from boarding a plane yesterday — because of two knives sewn into the middle of a stuffed Darth Vader Bear. Say what?
Click through for details. Although much is unanswered. This is just weird enough to make one wonder.

CPR – Multiple grass fires burning in Boulder County, evacuations in effect
Quote – The entire population of Superior is being evacuated as grass fires sparked by high winds and downed power lines rapidly grow and threaten structures. Two fires, the Marshall fire and the Middle Fork fire, ignited in Boulder County on Thursday morning. The county is experiencing gusts of wind reaching up to 80 miles per hour. Boulder County’s emergency managers advise people to evacuate if they see fire.
Click through – We expect this in the summer. Not so much in December.

Insider – The Securities and Exchange Commission’s chief litigator is joining the US attorney’s office handling January 6 cases
Quote – Bridget Fitzpatrick, the SEC’s chief litigation counsel, is poised to leave the commission to become the top deputy to US attorney Matt Graves, according to multiple people familiar with her plans. For Fitzpatrick, the move marks a return to the US attorney’s office where she once specialized in public corruption prosecutions.
Click through for story. The DU member who tipped me to this story commented that “Now might be a good time to learn the lessons those of us hyper-focused on Voting Rights learned – when Garland got Ms. Clarke over the finish line at DOJ as head of the Civil Rights Division. He hires, takes his hands off the leash, and releases his pit bulls.” He could well be correct. I hope so.

  1. To you, Joanne, and to All….Best Wishes for a Happy New Year 2022!!
    Cartoon: Awww….100x’s over.
C&L: Yikes! Now that’s scary. Glad TSA kept mom & son kept off plane too.
    CPR: How sad and heartbreaking.
    FFT: Absolutely !!! 04
TJI:  “Heaven is getting some giants tonight (12/28/21). #RestInPeace – Harry Reid and John Madden.”
    ~ Rep Eric Swalwell ~
    2. “Instead of fixing the grid, Abbott forces his appointees & his friends in the energy industry to publicly pretend that everything is OK. Imagine having a governor who makes decisions in the best interest of Texas instead of his donors.” ~ Beto O’Rourke ~
    3. “A power that is afraid of memory will never be able to achieve democratic maturity.” ~ Dr. Piotr Cywinski
    Director of Auschwitz Museum ~
    4. “Ted Cruz couldn’t stand up for his wife, his father or himself, but he mustered enough courage to lash out at Big Bird.” ~ Tristan Snell ~
    5. “In interviews, hospital leaders and critical care doctors said that nearly all the children hospitalized with Covid had one thing in common: They were unvaccinated or undervaccinated.” ~ George Conway ~

    • TJI #1 – Indeed. (Maybe it’s just me, but it seems like in the last few years everyone who is notable and who dies has been felled by pancreatic cancer. Not just any old cancer, but pancreatic cancer. I can think of a number of possible reasons, some innocent, some unsavory.)
TJI #2 – That would be truly wonderful, not just for Tesas, but for the nation. Sadly, too many people who shold know better don’t agree.
TJI #3 – True that. And there’s a study out strongly suggesting that racism is the biggest single factor in Trumpism .. the only single factor which is common to almost every person (and maybe every person) who is caught up in it.
TJI #4 – Well, that does take courage. Big Bird is a lot taller than he is.
TJI #5 – And no doubt some of them were too young to be vaccinated. And had parents who gave them no protection whatsoever.

  2. Comment from Mitch –

    ‘Toon: Bye now.
C&L: Right!  Of course!  WTF?CPR: On last night’s news, it was claimed that some of the winds are moving at as much as 115mph!  2021 is doing “Just saying!”
Insider: This would seem to augur well…for those not named Trump!
FFT: I would add, “And come out singing happy tunes!”
    HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Mitch

  3. UPDATE

Well, I got my USB-C to Ethernet adapter & I’m now using my very own little laptop.  (And I really HATE touchpads!)

I got all my CMEs earned & got online to renew my medical license.

Got my county Personal & Real Property taxes paid online.

Got my IRA RMD taken care for the year online.

Did all my year-end annual donations online.

So accomplished all the 12/31/21 deadline things accomplished.

But now I’m going to have to start sorting through my backlog of ~ 300 emails.  So I’m still going to be scarce for a while – but it’s nice to be able to do stuff from home rather than the library.

  4. I signed in at the “Author” site & it says I’m logged in as SoINeedAName – so I don’t know why it still says my comments await moderation.

    Suggestions?

    • Yes – this is why I’ve been looking for a new comment system, because WordPress has dropped the old one. You do know you can approve your own comments? Just go to the comments page, highlight all the options at the bottom of each comment, and click on “approve.”

Hopefully tommorw it will have been resolved … if I don’t mess up and get us into another pickle.

  5. Cartoon: 2021…what a year. Some good and some we’d like to forget ever happened.
C&L: Glad to see that TSA employee was paying close attention to what was going on here. Who knows what they two of them had planned for during or after their flight?
CPR: Seen this on last night’s nightly news. They were showing people running out of Costco and Chuck E Cheese. Sad watching the fire getting stronger with the help of the mighty winds. They were saying it was the strongest wind and fire disaster that ever happened in Colorado. My thoughts and prayers for all who were displaced and lost everything. Today on the news they were showing that it was snowing there. Mother Nature has been nasty in many ways this year.
Insider: Glad more are getting involved. I hope they speed it up, so hopefully tRump and some of his buddies will be behind bars soon.
Food for Thought: I hope it will be a better year in many ways.
I too wish everyone a Happy New Year. That 2022 brings each one of you good health and happiness.
    Take care. Thanks Joanne

  6. Happy New Year, everyone.

Mine started with another fight with my satellite internet provider this morning over a very bad mobile phone connection. The problem is only getting worse as the provider is now laying fault with the network people, i.e. the National Broadband Network guys who have installed the satellite dish and receiver unit. Those guys won’t come out until I prove that it is the NBN module and not the Wifi modem that is faulty!

So it is back to the drawing board and using the external dongle to communicate via the internet.  Which, as you may have guessed by now, very much limits my commenting abilities again. As daylight is already fading here, I’ll keep my powder (data) dry to use tomorrow.

Before I forget: Mostapha Zaher (former Care2) thanked me for my Season’s greetings card and Friday’s New Years wishes. I hadn’t heard from him since the Taliban took over in Afghanistan. He’s still in Kabul and surviving, but both emails were very brief and gave little information.

    • There is no longer a comments page I can go to to approve my comment, Joanne. It may now fall between the cracks, but that’s OK too.

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
