  1. 6:19 I had a sneezing fit, but it didn’t really last that long, so I would guess at least close to 6:00.

S&G – A real classic, one which has over the years been used in churches (no, “Bridge Over Troubled Water” isn’t the only one), anrranged for chamber music performances and for full orchestra, and probably covered by at least one artist in every musical genre. But there’s only one original.

Cartoon – I have no grandchildren, but I do want my friends’ and families’ grandchildren (and great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren) to be able to see this and other scenes like it. And it’s far from the only reason Republicans need to be voted out of office.

    • This just in – I added some responses to der Fuhrer’s tweet about Elijah Cummings to my comment in yesterday’s open thread.  But I hadn’t yet seen this – there’s an eloquent editorial in the Baltimore Sun which concludes with

“Better to have some vermin living in your neighborhood than to be one.”

      • I think that entire final paragraph from the Baltimore Sun is worth sharing:

Finally, while we would not sink to name-calling in the Trumpian manner — or ruefully point out that he failed to spell the congressman’s name correctly (it’s Cummings, not Cumming) — we would tell the most dishonest man to ever occupy the Oval Office, the mocker of war heroes, the gleeful grabber of women’s private parts, the serial bankrupter of businesses, the useful idiot of Vladimir Putin and the guy who insisted there are “good people” among murderous neo-Nazis that he’s still not fooling most Americans into believing he’s even slightly competent in his current post. Or that he possesses a scintilla of integrity. Better to have some vermin living in your neighborhood than to be one.

  2. YT: Oh, such a good memory! I wore the vinyl off of the 45 with this one… Over and over, and over….

Cartoon: Yes, yes, and YES !!

Take frequent breaks, stay hydrated, and rest too!! Hope that you get what you want done, Done. Take good care, and Thanks, Tom.

  5. Oh my gosh! I am now officially a Politics Plus Person! This is huuuuge, bigly.
Re: yesterday’s post. Dana Milbank had a good op ed about Moscow Mitch: https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/mitch-mcconnell-is-a-russian-asset/2019/07/26/02cf3510-afbc-11e9-a0c9-6d2d7818f3da_story.html?utm_term=.d41c92455e64
S&G – my favorite “poet and one-man band.” Listened to them for hours on end when I was a teen. Then my kids listened to them. Now my grandkids do. We all went to the Paul Simon farewell tour performance in Portland. Boy, do we need a good protest song now.

  6. You said it, TC! I plan to keep up with Politics Plus after Care2 folds.

  7. YT: Always was a fan of Simon and Garfunkel. This sound is one of my favorite songs. Bring memories.
    Cartoon: Ain’t that the truth.
Yes I will be checking into your Politics Plus daily once Care2 is gone.

  8. I have always loved S and G.
“Thoughts and Prayers’ to dt as the impeachment inquiry starts.” ~ anon ~  is a wonderful meme!
You will be out of that cat box, soon!
    ‘Toon: You bet!

  9. 3:41 They look lovely, but I doubt they’re edible.

Memories indeed. Bridge Over Troubled Water was the first LP (remember that term?) I ever bought, but, like Pat, I had a ‘single’ with Sound of Silence; a hand me down from a neighbour’s son, who didn’t like it all that much. Unbelievable, eh? The video’s life performance is exquisite; how many can do that nowadays? But it’s the text that survived half a century and still resonates today that has me wanting to play it over and over, again.

  10. The saying on my church’s sign this week:

It is better to be excluded for those you include than to be included for those you exclude.

    Puzzle — 5:33  Pretty posies!!!

Simon & Garfunkel — The memories indeed!

Cartoon — Does this still exist?

When will you be down for the move etc?  I will try to cover but right now I am a one armed paper hanger so I am slower than before.  Remember, be nice to the kitty doing the cat scan tomorrow.

  11. Thanks and hurry hugs! 26
