This is a real Confederate flag, actually used in battle. Yes, it looks like a T-shirt stuck on a golf club, but he bbought it at an estate sale – Estate of Colonel Cletus P. Twatwafffle III. It was waved on the battleground with rebel yells, such as “we quit”,”please dont kill us”,”I want my mommy”

So like…

Keep waving that flag of surrender.

Robert Reich – Danger of Collective Amnesia

Thom Hartmann – Does Too Much TV Create Dementia? Geeky Science (IMO what’s being left out of this summary is that correlation does not equal causation – and, even if it does, it can go either of two ways. I’d sooner believe that people inclined to stimulate their grey cells will seek out stimulating activits, including television.))

Beau – an amusing video addressing a misconception which would be amusing if it were not so dangerous.

Well, that was fun. Now, Beau on one aspect of leaving Afghanistan … and it needs to be said.

Katie Porter Strikes Again.

Big Pharma says they need to charge astronomical prices to pay for research and development. Yet, the amount they spend on manipulating the market to enrich shareholders completely eclipses what’s spent on R&D. Surprise, surprise!

White House pool report:

“Your pool made an unscheduled stop … The pool is standing behind cones at the landing strip for ‘our safety.’ Asked if Biden was driving, Jen Psaki said ‘we’ll see’. Then president Biden appeared driving fast in a grey-ish f-150 lightning truck.” pic.twitter.com/skWDerTXGZ

Beau on the 1033 program. We don’t hear the saying much any more “You can’t legislate morality” (and maybe we should.) But maybe we should also add “You can’t legislate intentions.”

PHP is a programming language used to build websites. We have it at all through our hosting partner, BlueHost. In order to update it, we have to go through Bluehost. During his life, TomCat was the only one who had access to our account there. I (JD) am now the only one. I have been to BlueHost and investigated updating our PHP to 8.3 or even to 8.1. I found instructions to do so - in fact, I found two conflicting sets of instructions. I went through one set of the steps and got the message that Our site could not handle 8.3, but that it had successfully updated to 8.1. I then went back here to see what it looked like. But I couldn't get in - either as an administrator or as a reader. It was just gone. I had to reach BlueHost by phone. It was determined that Politics Plus is in fact not compatible with any version of PHP newer than the one we have. BlueHost therefore uninstalled it for me, and the site came back to normal. Of course, like everyone else, I care about security. But I also am aware that TomCat elected to use different providers for several of the services that BlueHost provides, for instance backups. We are backed up daily - but not by BlueHost. However, out PHP is through Bluehost. I feel that if they are not worried about the older version, I am not going to worry about it. I believe that our security here is all or mostly through WordFence, whom I trust.
