Glenn Kirschner with a “Top Five” list o Don McGahn’s testimony

Meidas Touch – More Jason Kande

Armageddon nUpdate – One of Titus’s best. Touching even. It he talks too fast for you, slowing it down to 75% usually helps a lot.

VoteVets now has two ads each aimed at a specific state … and the two states are West Virginia and Arizona. Let me see … what do those twp states have in common?

Beau – Let’s talk about Trump, Facebook, and the future….

Keith – I don’t know who he is talking to that thinks Democrats are afrais to arrest Trump**. I don’t see that at all. I’ve heard things like it in the past (over much less consequential actions0, but I’m not hearing it now. And if too hasty arrest causes any case, or any charges, no matter how small, to be tossed out in the courts, Keith is going to look awfully stupid. I love Keith but some one with more prosecutorial knowledge than I needs to sit him down and have a talk.

Glenn Kirschner -DeJoy and Gaetz Sounds like a “Subpoena Duces Tecum.” I was served with one of those once. But the defendant accepted a bargain, so I didn’t have to go.

The Lincoln Project – The Real AntiFa (Just in time for D-Day)

MSNBC – Trump really thinks ….

Ring of Fire -Chauvin’s request for probation and time served. I frequently have nits to pick with Farron … but today he is right on.

Thom Hartmann “Is It Too Late For Democracy?”

Now here’s a product I could really get behind. (Wish it were real)

Beau – “Let’s talk about what Paxton Smith can teach Republicans….”

Glenn Kirschner – Plea Offers to Some Insurrectionists Raise Concerns: Here’s What Drives Prosecutorial Decisions

Meidas Touch – with Jason Kender

Now This News – Excuse my language, but this pisses me off. (It pisses Beau off too, but he’s politer.)

VoteVets – Count on Gen. Eaton not to mince words and to lay out the right thing to do … and VoteVets to publish it.

Thom Hartmann on Traitors, Particularly Flynn

Robert Reich – How Fast Can You Read? Pro tip: Watch twice – watch Robert the first time and Sam the second time (oe vice versa.) You can also slow it down, but definitely watch each separately.

Beau – an analogy that this sports ignoramus can wholeheartedly endorse.

TGIF – although i don’t really know why I still say so, since after retirement most days are alike to me. If anything, my Fridays are busier than other days. Today, I’m going to be off line for a while. Since I haven’t driven since the pandemic started, my battery is so low that it won’t hold a jump. It’s possibe, even probable, that keeping the machine the pros use attached and charging it would bring it up to where it would at least hold a jump, and driving around a while would complete the charge. But we have been having electrical storms every day. I don’t think it’s paranoid not to want to be out playing with electricity with a storm in the offing. But today we are forecast nothing but sun all day. So I’m hoping – I have one of those boxes the pros use – to get out and charge it up. Of course I’ll be off line for a while (and the longer it is, the better news it is.) Thanks in advance for your patience.

Short Takes –

Aeon – Exit the Fatherland

If I could, I would make this an “Everyday Erinyes” article. But I can’t – it’s classified as an “essay,” and only “idea”s are available to republish. But, depressing as it is, I urge everyone to at least skim it. Because this is what we have to look forward to even if we do confront nationalism and all who embrace and push it. If we don’t – and we certainly didn’t, for instance, after the Civil War – it is not something we are good at – what we have to look forward to is likely even worse. I wish I knew how to get this through and into Americans’ heads.

PolitiZoom – Get Ready For Waco II: Trump Loving Moonies Purchase Compound In Texas To Prepare For Apocalyptic Shoot Out
I realize this page is tough to access and I apologize – but no one else has it and it is eyebrow-raising. “Moonies” is not a metaphor – the son of Sun Myung Moon leads this – group. (because it’s hard to reach, I have made a pdf – if you can’t see it online and want the pdf, email me or say so in a comment and I’ll send it

The Hill – FBI investigating political fundraising of former employees of Postmaster General DeJoy
You may already have seen this, so it may not be news, but it’s still good.

And because there’s to be no Friday Fun, and I for one am craving something totally of the wall …

Glenn Kirschner – One the DOJ is wrong on

MSNBC – Sure is too bad Missouri lost Claire McCaskill. But I’m grateful they elevated her first, anyway.

CNN – Happy to hear Acosta speak up on this. Maybe some will listen.

Tornado Siren? (I’m getting tornado warnings here between thunderstorm warnings now. ‘Tis the seasin.)

Beau on UFO’s

Keith Olbermann – The fact is, whatever we do, people are going to get hurt. We need to be sure the people who want fascism are the same ones who get hurt – or at least, hurt the most.

This is the thread I had ready for yesterday, but didn’t want to post it then as we all had other things on out minds. I am also posting it early so that a thread will be up early for comments So please consider it today’s Open Thread and hang comments on it. I have even included a “Blast from the Past” at the end (with a bit of explanation as it’s often misunderstood.)

Glenn Kirschner – “A Tale of Two Insurrections”

The Lincoln Project – Memorial Day

Armageddon Update – Yes, Titus can be tough to listen to. But his facts are sound. Sadly, that’s getting harder to find.

Ring of Fire – Giuliani phone call – Farron manages not to editorialize too much (and of course Hattie is always adorable.)

Thom Hartmann – Why so few plea deals? You may already be aware of this … but he explains it so well.

Beau – “Let’s talk about a second Operation New Life and counter arguments….” I want one of those T-shirts.

“Blast from the Past” – Going Home – Paul Robeson
There is more to this song (and to the singer) than most people are aware of. Sure Dvorak – but without two other men (both nlack) it would never have existed. Harry T.Burleigh. William Arms Fisher. It has CC but CC does badle with music, so the lyrics are here.
There will be more videos this afternoon, also.

Meidas Touch – that one was very serious – this one is bit lighter (Noel Caster is a comedian, after all)

Glenn Kirschner – more on grand juries (I think I can figure out why “23”)

Meidas Touch – One more with Charlie Sykes

The Lincoln Project – mot, IMO, their best

Lawrence and Lawrence on MSNBC

Now This News – another everyday hero.

Rob Rogers work in progress

Yes, I know it’s a commercial. Humor me to the end,

Beau – “Let’s talk about ex-cons, self-doubt, and organizing….” is actually for one (anonymous) person – so powerfully that I needed a hanky … and I think it has stuff anyone can learn from

PHP is a programming language used to build websites. We have it at all through our hosting partner, BlueHost. In order to update it, we have to go through Bluehost. During his life, TomCat was the only one who had access to our account there. I (JD) am now the only one. I have been to BlueHost and investigated updating our PHP to 8.3 or even to 8.1. I found instructions to do so - in fact, I found two conflicting sets of instructions. I went through one set of the steps and got the message that Our site could not handle 8.3, but that it had successfully updated to 8.1. I then went back here to see what it looked like. But I couldn't get in - either as an administrator or as a reader. It was just gone. I had to reach BlueHost by phone. It was determined that Politics Plus is in fact not compatible with any version of PHP newer than the one we have. BlueHost therefore uninstalled it for me, and the site came back to normal. Of course, like everyone else, I care about security. But I also am aware that TomCat elected to use different providers for several of the services that BlueHost provides, for instance backups. We are backed up daily - but not by BlueHost. However, out PHP is through Bluehost. I feel that if they are not worried about the older version, I am not going to worry about it. I believe that our security here is all or mostly through WordFence, whom I trust.
