From Alternet: Every White House and presidential administration is forced to grapple with frequent staff turnover due to the nature of the job, but under President Donald Trump, the country has seen a historic amount of resignations and dismissals.

And after the 2018 midterm elections, the problem is almost certain to get worse, as multiple reports indicate.

A recent report from Politico found that five Cabinet officials (Attorney General Jeff Sessions, Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, Defense Secretary James Mattis, Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke, and Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen) were likely to leave the administration after the November election.

And on Tuesday, the Washington Post reported that one of the investigations of Zinke has been referred to the Department of Justice as a potential criminal probe, raising the likelihood that he’ll depart. The Post also confirmed that he is only "one of multiple Cabinet members who may leave after the midterm elections."

From NY Times: President Trump attacked the Republican speaker of the House on Wednesday for criticizing his position on birthright citizenship and said he should focus instead on safeguarding the party’s majority in Congress, a remarkable display of intraparty fighting six days before midterm elections in which the Republican majority is at risk.

“Paul Ryan should be focusing on holding the Majority rather than giving his opinions on Birthright Citizenship, something he knows nothing about!” Mr. Trump said in a Twitter post.

I think Lyin’ Ryan was focused on trying to preserve the Reich’s stranglehold on Congress. The Fuhrer hates being contradicted and showed his desperation. RESIST!! VOTE BLUE!!

It’s another muggy, sticky day, here at the CatBox. I slept well last night. Exhaustion finally overpowered everything else. From The New Yorker: Donald J. Trump on Tuesday signed an executive order stripping the children of immigrant mothers of their citizenship, thus disqualifying himself from being President of the United States.

The constitutional crisis came to light moments after the signing ceremony, when a fourth grader visiting the Oval Office on a school tour pointed out the far-reaching legal ramifications of the order.

“Hey, wait, wasn’t your mother from Scotland?” the student, Tracy Klugian, asked. “That means you’re not a citizen and you can’t be President.”

Stephen Miller, a senior adviser to Trump and the author of the executive order, quickly grabbed the document from the Oval Office desk, panic spreading across his face as he reread it.

“Oh, my God,” Miller gasped. “What have I done?”

Trump immediately called Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh for help in voiding the executive order, but Kavanaugh was unable to take the call because he was “sleeping off a rough night [with his latest victim],” an aide to the Justice said.

Dang Andy! Since it would force him out of office, maybe we should pretend it’s Constitutional. RESIST!! VOTE BLUE!!

From Alternet: A new analysis by the election forecaster FiveThirtyEight found that a record number of women are projected to be elected to Congress in the midterm election cycle appropriately dubbed “The Year of the Woman.”

Poll whisperer Nate Silver’s model gives Democrats an 84 percent change of flipping the House this year, with many of those gains coming thanks to women candidates. According to the models, a record 124 women may win their elections this cycle, compared to the 107 women elected to Congress this session. As many as 100 women lead their House races, along with 24 female Senate candidates, out of 238 women running for federal office. There are currently 84 women in the House and 23 in the Senate.

FiveThirtyEight’s Nathaniel Rakich warns that these candidates hold solid leads and have strong chances to win, but the gains are far from guaranteed. At the same time, it’s also true women’s gains could be even greater.

From NY Times: After Senator Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota announced that she would not vote to confirm Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, sympathetic voters went to work to show their support for the embattled red-state Democrat, writing letters of thanks and posting their appreciation on social media.

Others found a more practical way to demonstrate their gratitude: cold, hard cash. In 17 days, Ms. Heitkamp raised an astonishing $12.5 million, according to campaign finance filings; the bulk of that was after she announced her vote.

I’ve never been a Heitkamp fan, but she deserves the support. RESIST!! VOTE BLUE!!

It has been awhile since I published. I have several ideas but I have not had the time to bring them to fruition. Hopefully I will be able to get them done before too long. In the mean time, here are 4 short takes and a Simon’s Cat video.

AlterNet — Donald Trump is either lying about tax cuts, in search of headlines to fool voters who saw through the first Republican tax bill …

Trump floated the idea on Saturday in Nevada and then insisted on it to reporters on Monday, saying “We’re putting in a resolution sometime in the next week, or week and a half, two weeks.” When reporters followed up on exactly how this was going to happen, with Congress out of session, Trump said “We won’t have time to do the vote. We’ll do the vote later,” specifically “after the election.” He does not appear to be talking about the tweaks to the previous tax plan that the House already passed but which is unlikely to get through the Senate.

I heard about this yesterday on the news while I was out and about. This is nothing more than a tax scam to woo middle class voters to vote for Republicans. Anyone who votes Republican on the basis of a middle class tax break being passed after the midterms is gullible and delusional. McTurtle has already committed to changing social security, Medicare and Medicaid so drastically that they will not be the same, if they even survive at all.

The Hill — The FBI says it was unable to locate any photos of former FBI Director James Comey and special counsel Robert Mueller “hugging and kissing” after President Trump claimed he could provide 100 such images.

BuzzFeed News reporter Jason Leopold on Tuesday shared the Justice Department’s response to a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request he filed with the bureau asking for photographs of Mueller and Comey “hugging and kissing each other.”

The FBI said in response that its search did not turn up any records corresponding with Leopold’s request.

Is there no end to the stupidity that is Donald J Trump aka Diaper Don? What passes for a brain is working at a fever pitch to discredit an investigation that he says will show no collusion. Yea right!!! (dripping with sarcasm) Now tell me something that I can believe because I certainly do NOT believe Diaper Don! If there was no collusion, then why is the moron so obsessed with the investigation? Please, somebody tell us!

Huffington Post — Actor and comedian Jim Carrey usually saves his political musings for Twitter or his latest painting. This weekend, though, he voiced his views while accepting the Charlie Chaplin Award for Excellence in Comedy from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts in Los Angeles on Friday night. …

Much to the audience’s delight, Carrey then went full bore into a poignant, impassioned speech about the current political system.

“Almost half of America at this moment believes there is a sinister deep state diabolically plotting … to what?” Carrey asked. “Give them health care?”

He praised his comedy hero, actor Charlie Chaplin, for the ingenious, subversive political commentary in his films.

I am not normally known to watch award shows, and the BAFTA awards are no exception. However, when I read that Jim Carrey had received the Charlie Chaplin Award for Excellence in Comedy and that his acceptance speech was an impassioned speech about the state of the US right now, well I could not not watch this terrific Canadian comedian. BTW, Carrey has a new Trump painting which is shown in the article.

Raw Story — Rep. Kevin Yoder (R-KS) is in a tough fight for his seat in the suburbs of Kansas City, facing a challenge from Democrat Sharice Davids.

Yoder is now attacking Davids for not quitting an internship she served with the Department of Transportation, according to the Kansas City Star.

How does Kevin Yoder spell desperation . . . S-H-A-R-I-C-E-D-A-V-I-D-S!!! Go Sharice!!!

Yesterday’s trip to the eye surgeon’s office came off without a hitch. Lori said the eye point is unchanged, increasing the odds of a successful corrective surgery in December. I slept very poorly last night so I am tired today. Pray for those harmed by the Republican domestic terrorist in Pittsburgh.

From The New Yorker: Moments after law enforcement apprehended the pipe-bombing suspect, Cesar Sayoc, in Florida, White House staffers scrambled to make sure that Donald J. Trump had never retweeted anything from Sayoc’s demented Twitter feed.

The alarm bells went off at the White House after the chief of staff, John Kelly, reviewed Sayoc’s feed, which is riddled with right-wing conspiracy theories and paranoid attacks on George Soros, and thought that some of the tweets “looked kind of familiar,” an aide to Kelly confirmed.

After spotting the similarities, Kelly enlisted Kellyanne Conway, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, and Jared Kushner to comb through Trump’s Twitter feed and ascertain whether he had in fact retweeted any of the bombing suspect’s unhinged ravings.

As of late Friday afternoon, the team of staffers had not yet identified any retweets of the alleged pipe bomber by Trump, but cautioned that their work was “far from over,” a White House source said.

Dang, Andy! I think they’ll find dozens. RESIST!! VOTE BLUE!!

From The New Yorker: Russian and Chinese spies who have been eavesdropping on Donald J. Trump’s unsecured iPhone calls complained on Thursday that he has foiled their efforts by speaking in a language that is infuriatingly indecipherable.

According to the spies, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, what they had hoped would be a treasure trove of valuable intercepts has amounted to little more than unintelligible gibberish.

“Trump has been communicating in an impenetrable code entirely of his own creation,” a Chinese spy said. “These phone calls might as well be triple-encrypted.”

A Russian spy who has monitored Trump’s calls around the clock said that the only words that could be identified clearly were “I” and “me,” but that they were used so frequently that they became virtually meaningless.

It’s a very busy day here in the CatBox. I’m getting prepared for tomorrow. I have my preliminary eye-exam for the surgery to correct my double double vision vision, scheduled for 12/12. I leave at 8:00 AM, and will return after 1:00 PM. I will be fully dilated, so I’ll be blind and useless for the rest of the day. Therefore, please expect no more than a Personal Update, and I will not be sending links messages on Care2. I should be back in the saddle on Saturday.

From Alternet: NBC has decided it’s had enough of Megyn Kelly for one week.

The New York Times’ John Koblin reports that NBC will air reruns of Kelly’s show over the next two days while the network continues to deal with the blowback caused by Kelly questioning why it’s considered racist for white people to dress in blackface during Halloween.

“Given the circumstances, Megyn Kelly Today will be on tape the rest of the week,” NBC said in a statement to Koblin.

Temporary good riddance. When MSNBC hired this Faux Noise bikini model, I said it was a mistake. They need to fire her permanently. RESIST!! VOTE BLUE!!
