I’m running late today, because I had a meeting about moving with CCC.  There is still no news.  I feel very tired.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 5:02 (average 5:55).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Religious Agony:

No excuses.  They were simply beaten by a team that played better.

Short Takes:

From YouTube (Parody Project Channel): THE VOTING SONG – Parody

Amen Don! I would, if I could, but I voted yesterday. RESIST!! VOTE BLUE!!

From YouTube (Robert Reich Channel): Robert Reich: The American Social Contract

Of course the Reich on the left, Robert Reich, is right. However, the Reich on the right, the Republican Reich, rejects all five of those values. RESIST!! VOTE BLUE!!

From Alternet: A new analysis by the election forecaster FiveThirtyEight found that a record number of women are projected to be elected to Congress in the midterm election cycle appropriately dubbed “The Year of the Woman.”

Poll whisperer Nate Silver’s model gives Democrats an 84 percent change of flipping the House this year, with many of those gains coming thanks to women candidates. According to the models, a record 124 women may win their elections this cycle, compared to the 107 women elected to Congress this session. As many as 100 women lead their House races, along with 24 female Senate candidates, out of 238 women running for federal office. There are currently 84 women in the House and 23 in the Senate.

FiveThirtyEight’s Nathaniel Rakich warns that these candidates hold solid leads and have strong chances to win, but the gains are far from guaranteed. At the same time, it’s also true women’s gains could be even greater.

If you think this will happen without YOUR BLUE VOTE, it won’t! RESIST!! VOTE BLUE!!

  1. 7:36 Trying to stay dry.

Agony – well, Nameless may be gratified.

PP – Nicely done! Great use of what’s probably the best song in an overrated operetta. (You voted yesterday? My ballot was already counted by the time you cast yours! (And I did my due diligence on the propositions, too.) (PS – It was nice to catch a glimpse of Bojangles in the video too.)

Reich – I think some Republicans do accept those, PROVIDED they get to define “people”, and can define it to exclude anyone who doesn’t look like them. And of course we utterly reject that. BTW Krugman made what I think is a great point (or set of points) on European social democracy.

AlterNet – I feel a bit uncomfortable designating a year as being “of the Woman,” only because EVERY year should be.

Cartoon – I was in boot camp at the time.

  2. THE VOTING SONG – Parody: VOTE! VOTE! VOTE! LETS GO ALL OUT! mailed my absentee ballot almost two weeks ago. I even looked up the judges and their records as well and voted accordingly and did not see any Kavanaugh-types on the list (thankful!).

Robert Reich: The American Social Contract: 5 simple principles. Have a listen and you might be pleasantly surprised. I wish more people would listen to him speak and see his graphics. Robert does all of this in under 3 minutes. What a treasure this man is!

AlterNet: Year of the Women Politicians (candidates). USA has had them for years but the problem has been sexism, misogynists out there downplaying the women by the old white boo-hoos permeating the political world. E.G. Grassley, McConnell and so on. I, for one, am glad that there are many women running for office.

Cartoon: I am glad that NOW was formed and continues to have a strong presence in America’s voices.

  3. PPC: Very well done!!! Good tune, good message, and loved the dancing scenes. VOTE!

RR: Good points,…… are you listening, donald?

AN: Very encouraging and wonderful news, women have always stepped up, imho.

Cartoon: Amen! ” ‘Its first president, Betty Friedan, author of The Feminine Mystique(1963). Another founder, the late Rev. Pauli Murray, the first African-American woman Episcopal priest, co-authored NOW’s original Statement of Purpose which begins: ‘The purpose of NOW is to take action to bring women into full participation in the mainstream of American society now, exercising all privileges and responsibilities thereof in truly equal partnership with the mainstream of men.’

Sorry about your guys, hope your meeting went okay too. Enjoy your evening, take care and Thanks, Tom.

  4. Everything hinges on voter turnout – which is precisely why Georgia’s chickenshit Secretary of State Brian Kemp has been indulging in voter suppression for years, and now sits on 53,000 voter applications. If he wins by a hair, all hell is going to break loose. I have done my civic duty by voting – straight Democrat for probably the first time in my life!

Reich’s social contract is very true. It allows for people to disagree on certain things, but focuses on what is good for society and individuals alike. It is neither left-wing nor right-wing. It calls for personal responsibility but doesn’t allow anybody to be thrown under the bus.

The blurb from Alternet says nothing about women running for local and state offices. Here in Georgia we could soon elect our first female governor. I do hope Abrams wins, not just because of her gender but also because she is a better person than her cowardly opponent.

  5. PP: Great tune. I like Pat, loved the dancing scenes. I pray everyone gets out there and votes. No ifs or buts about it, if they don’t we will continue to go down hill and suffer even more.VOTE BLUE.RR: Agree with all of his five principles . Wish the idiots in office would. Alternet: Happy seeing more women in there fighting for a spot. Wish them success.Cartoon: Glad they were formed. NOW is still going strong.

  6. PPC: Boy, they really can be subtle, when they want to, no?
Reich: Dumptser was put in office by those who think these values are for someone else, or irrelevant, or both.  Representative Matt Gaetz, of Florida’s 1st district, has peddled Anti-Semitic crap about George Soros, and the RNC has a history of putting out blatantly Anti-Semitic ads.  They give not  damn about what should be the social contract!  Their only agenda is power…theirs!
Alternet: Sounds good to me!!!!!!!     This Nate Silver business does not turn me on, however.
    ‘Toon: Sounds good to me!!!!!!!

  7. PP: Don has you dancing to the polls now. Or would that be a reason to block you from voting in one of those red states, do you think?

RR: Thanks to the Republicans there’s not much left of this social contract in daily life, is there?  I hope Americans will be shaking hands on a renewed contract soon, before no one can remember what those five points were and how they worked.

Alternet: There’s a strong correlation between party and number of women who are candidate for a political position, so you know exactly what to vote and kill two birds with one stone, don’t you. (Preferably without killing birds or anything else, thank you)

Cartoon: If Democrats all cast their votes right this election, NOW can be proud about how far it has come.

  8. Thanks and pooped hugs! 19
