Is a Nuke in Order?

Resident Donald Trump, Fuhrer of the Republican Reich, felt he had to cancel his trip to Poland.  He sent his lick-spittle VP instead.  Why. Because, when it comes to God, she has a wonderful sense of humor.  Do you remember when Jerry Falwell called God’s wrath, in the form of a hurricane, down on Disney World, because they started hiring gays openly?  The next hurricane to hit the US, damaged Falwell’s Virginia Beach HQ.  Well guess what happened when Trump started racist rants at the people of Puerto Rico over Dorian?  And we all know how Trump wants to deal with hurricanes!

0830Mar-a-Lago

Earlier this week, Donald Trump was openly criticizing Puerto Rico for daring to be in the path of Hurricane Dorian, as if it were the island’s fault. Trump also recently (and illegally) diverted hurricane relief funding to help build his imaginary border wall. Now the tables – more specifically the meteorological tables – have turned.

Right around the time forecasters announced that Dorian had changed course and was now headed toward Donald Trump’s home of Mar-a-Lago in Florida, Trump suddenly decided that his Poland trip was no longer important to him, and handed it off to Mike Pence instead. Trump didn’t seem to feel compelled to stay home when he thought the hurricane was going to hit the United States island territory of Puerto Rico, because in Trump’s eyes, Puerto Ricans aren’t real (translation: white) Americans.

Now Trump has a three-fold problem. First, there are the bad optics here, as everyone knows that Trump didn’t care about this hurricane at all until it took a turn toward one of his most cherished properties. Second, Trump faces the prospect of having to mount a hurricane relief effort, at a time when he’s gone five months without a permanent FEMA Director, and he just pulled FEMA funding for his wall fantasy. Third – least important in the big picture but certainly most important to him – a destructive hurricane is heading toward Mar-a-Lago…  [emphasis added]

Now, I doubt the Fuhrer will weather the storm in Mar-a–Lago.  I trust a sudden attack of bone spurs will prevent that.  However, if he does, a nuke is in order.

It’s a hectic day, here in the shiny new CatBox.  I had a difficult time finding stories to cover.  Most of the media is in holiday-weekend dead time.  Please expect no more than a Personal Update or an Open Thread tomorrow and Sunday.  Tomorrow is our fantasy football league draft, and Sunday is a WWWendy day with lots to do.  If you’re traveling, please stay safe, and TGIF hugs to all.

From Daily Kos: There’s a lot that this administration has done that’s gobsmackingly heinous, but this is extreme. A new memo posted by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) on Wednesday declares that children born overseas to U.S. military members and government employees won’t be automatically considered citizens.

Yes, people serving their country overseas, including in the military and in the diplomatic corps and every other foreign posting, will have to apply for citizenship for any of their children born outside of the U.S., starting Oct. 29. The memo says the USCIS is changing the definition of “residing in the United States” to mean being born in the U.S., disqualifying children born to U.S. citizens at overseas military bases or diplomatic facilities. Parents are going to have to prove their citizenship and residency in order to pass it on to their children.

Way to support the troops, Trump.

To Republicans, our troops are just cannon-fodder.  Real support for then comes only from Democrats. RESIST!!

Top Dems ALL Beat Trump!

I hear this on the radio over and over again.  I see it on the TV over and over again.  Even the candidate’s wife, Jill Biden, says that we should hold our noses and vote for her husband, because he is the only one, who can beat trump.  This argument has one problem: it just isn’t true.

0829poll

Yet another poll has emerged suggesting that were the 2020 election held today, every one of the top Democrats could defeat President Trump.

A poll from Quinnipiac released on Wednesday shows former Vice President Joe Biden leading over Trump by 16 points among registered voters, while Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) leads by 14 points, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) by 12 points, Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) by 11 points, and South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg leads him by nine points.

This same poll shows that 56 percent of voters disapprove of Trump’s job performance — with 50 percent disapproving strongly — and only 30 percent say that Trump is doing more to unite the country than to divide it; that’s an all-time low in this poll. With 37 percent of voters saying the economy is getting worse, this is the first time since Trump was elected that more say the economy is getting worse than getting better…. [emphasis added]

Lawrence O’Donnell covered the story in detail.

Since Biden avoids the issues to focus on electability, and since four other Democrats can also beat Trump handily, why should we pick Biden?  He isn’t a Republican.  Otherwise,  I only have reasons why other Democrats are better choices.  In any event, don’t be afraid to chose the Democrat of your choice.  That said, if Biden does win the nomination, he is infinitely more lucid, more caring, more just, and more competent on his worst day than Trump is on his best day.

And here is the greatest source of methane in the US

Will His Dream Survive?

Martin Luther King, Jr. influenced my political thinking more than any other individual.  I was fortunate to have worked under him on Vietnam Summer and to have been present on the Washington Mall fifty-six years ago today on August 28, 1963. It’s hard to believe that we are once again fighting the battle to secure the voting rights won as a result of his dream, and to restore them, where racist Republicans are outlawing the right to vote. Will his dream survive?

This is a repost of last year’s article.  I saw no way to improve it.

Never before has there been such a threat that his dream will be destroyed by the Republican Reich!  Will it survive?  That depends on YOU!

From The New Yorker: The Republican Presidential nominee, Donald Trump, tore into the media on Thursday for what he called its “extremely unfair practice” of reporting the things he says.

“I’ll say something at a rally and I look out and see all these TV cameras taking every word down,” Trump told Fox News’s Sean Hannity. “No one in politics has ever been subjected to this kind of treatment.”

From Alternet: Bethany Milton spent 11 years working for the U.S. federal government as a consular officer in the Foreign Service. But in an op-ed for the New York Times, Milton explains that this summer, she finally decided to leave the State Department — and the straw that broke the camel’s back was hearing supporters of President Donald Trump chanting, “Send her back, send her back” in reference to Rep. Ilhan Omar during a recent rally.

“When President Trump’s supporters chanted, ‘Send her back!,’ I took that as a charge for me as well,” Milton asserts. “I asked the Trump Administration to send me back from my overseas posting, shipping home the family, foreign language textbooks and various tchotchkes from ‘shithole countries’ that I’ve collected in my years as a United States diplomat. I am joining a growing list of Foreign Service officers who refuse to serve this administration any longer.”

Milton, in her op-ed, explains that she has a long resumé with the federal government. From 2014-2016, for example, she “oversaw immigrant visa processing at the U.S. Consulate General in Mumbai, India” — and she “oversaw immigrant visa operations in Kigali, Rwanda, from 2018 to 2019.”

Milton recalls that when she joined the U.S. State Department in 2008, she sat through some presentations as part of her orientation. And in one of them, she was told, “The day you can no longer publicly support your administration’s policies is the day you need to resign.” And for Milton, she writes in her op-ed, that day came when she found the “Send her back, send her back” chants intolerable.

Kudos to Milton, and to all public servants, who have determined that keeping their career is less important than maintaining their integrity by refusing to be part of a Republican Reich. RESIST!!

Nuke the Republicane Only

Today we have a story so far off the wall that it would not be worth covering, except that it illustrates the sheer incompetence of Resident Donald Trump, Fuhrer of the Republican Reich, aka Republicane Anus.

0826TrumpNuke

President Donald Trump is receiving some major ribbing for denying an overnight, well-sourced report that revealed he wanted to explode a nuclear bomb in the eye of a hurricane in a misguided attempt to destroy it.

“The story by Axios that President Trump wanted to blow up large hurricanes with nuclear weapons prior to reaching shore is ridiculous. I never said this. Just more FAKE NEWS!” Trump tweeted very early Monday morning.

Axios indeed reported the news, even getting a quote from an administration official praising the president for asking “tough questions” about nuking hurricanes.

“I got it. I got it. Why don’t we nuke them?” President Trump said during a hurricane briefing at the White House, Axios reports, citing a source who was there. “They start forming off the coast of Africa, as they’re moving across the Atlantic, we drop a bomb inside the eye of the hurricane and it disrupts it. Why can’t we do that?”…
