I’m waiting for Store to Door to deliver my groceries.  They are running late.  The weather today is a little worse than yesterday.  In a late afternoon surprise yesterday, I went out to look at a room in the Alder, a few blocks away from my current location.  The room is about the same size, and may be workable.  The next step is to see if I can fit the income requirements.  When I returned home my eyes were on fire.

Short Takes:

From YouTube (Media Matters Channel): A sampling of Mike Cernovich’s vile commentary (that he’d like you to forget)

Barf Bag Alert!!

CernoBITCH is currently touring Arizona with Kelly Ward, the Republican candidate for US Senate. If Trump sees this, he’ll be working in the White House. RESIST!! VOTE BLUE!!

From YouTube (Robert Reich Channel): Robert Reich: Memo to the Press

The Reich on the left, Robert Reich, is right. The Reich on the right, the Republican Reich, is criminal. And there’s another way to cover the Fuhrer. Put him under the seat in an outhouse, and leave him, until it’s full. RESIST!! VOTE BLUE!!

From The New Yorker: Michael D. Cohen decided on Tuesday to plead guilty to a host of financial crimes shortly after Rudolph Giuliani offered to be his lawyer on a pro-bono basis, Giuliani confirmed.

In an interview with Jake Tapper, on CNN, the former New York City mayor said that he had offered to give Cohen “the kind of defense that only I am capable of giving.”

“The minute I said that, the blood drained from his face and he was out of there like a shot,” Giuliani said. “It was the strangest thing I’d ever seen.”

Dang, Andy! If Rudy 9/11 was my lawyer, I’d cop a plea in a heartbeat!! RESIST!! VOTE BLUE!!

From The New Yorker: Vladimir Putin is reportedly “very close” to firing Rudolph Giuliani as Donald J. Trump’s attorney, a source close to the Russian President confirmed on Monday.

According to the source, Putin allowed Trump to hire Giuliani in the first place because “it’s important to let Trump think that he has some autonomy from time to time,” but now the Russian President has apparently determined that “enough is enough.”

Over the next few days, the source indicated, Putin is likely to replace Giuliani with a handpicked successor, Arkady Lubetkin, a criminal-defense attorney who has represented several prominent Russian Mob figures.

Dang Andy! After Meet the Press, Putin (R-RU] does have just cause for doing do. RESIST!! VOTE BLUE!!

WWWendy just left, so I feel like Sunday, even though it isn’t.  This is my only article today, and I won’t be sending links messages on Care2.  The heat and smoke fully are back.  After three horrid days, we may get a bit of respite for a few days.  I turned on the news and there’s no doubt.  Oh God!  It IS Monday!

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:44 (average 5:03).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

From NY Times: As a corporate lawyer, William L. Wehrum worked for the better part of a decade to weaken air pollution rules by fighting the Environmental Protection Agency in court on behalf of chemical manufacturers, refineries, oil drillers and coal-burning power plants.

Now, Mr. Wehrum is about to deliver one of the biggest victories yet for his industry clients — this time from inside the Trump administration as the government’s top air pollution official.

On Tuesday, President Trump is expected to propose a vast rollback of regulations on emissions from coal plants, including many owned by members of a coal-burning trade association that had retained Mr. Wehrum and his firm as recently as last year to push for the changes.

The proposal strikes at the heart of climate-change regulations adopted by the Obama administration to force change among polluting industries, and follows the relaxation of separate rules governing when power plants must upgrade air pollution equipment. Mr. Wehrum, who has led the E.P.A.’s clean air office since November, also helped deliver the changes in several of those rules.

It is now permissible for sheeple to choke and wheeze, while goose-stepping. RESIST!! VOTE BLUE!!

From Politico: The team of investigators working on special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation "are looking to impact" this November’s midterm elections, President Donald Trump claimed Monday morning, labeling Mueller’s team a "national disgrace."

Actually it wasn’t a bad showing.  The Broncos were ahead 23-10, until the last few minutes of the 4th quarter when the only people playing were players with little chance of making the team.  The players that matter dominated the Bears.

From Alternet: One of the top concerns of Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee regarding President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court Nominee, Judge Brett Kavanaugh, is whether he knew anything about, authorized, or advised the Bush administration on their torture program for detainees in the War on Terror while he served as White House staff secretary.

In 2006, during his confirmation to the D.C. Circuit, Kavanaugh told senators, under oath, that he was "not involved in the questions about the rules governing detention of combatants," and had no knowledge of issues about "the legal justifications or the policies relating to the treatment of detainees," according to NBC News. However, Sens. Patrick Leahy (D-VT), Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), and Dick Durbin (D-IL) assert that multiple documents and email chains show Kavanaugh was briefed on the issue, implying he was not honest with the Senate…

…According to a press release from Leahy, prior to the meeting on July 24, Republicans were prepared to ask the National Archives to release documents produced during Kavanaugh’s time as White House Staff Secretary for former President George W. Bush. But after the meeting, Republicans refused to do so, allowing a limited release of documents curated by "a lawyer representing the former president."

"In the 44 years I have served in the United States Senate, I have seen 19 nominations to the Supreme Court, including the nomination of every current member of the Court," said Leahy. "I have never before seen the White House, under either a Republican or Democratic president, usurp or direct the parameters of the Judiciary Committee’s document request regarding a Supreme Court nominee. I find it troubling that the White House and Judiciary Committee Republicans are stifling transparency rather than working together to provide the necessary documents for the Senate to do its work. The American people deserve the unvarnished truth about Judge Kavanaugh."

If Kavanaugh, Bush’s torture maven,  were not a criminal, that would have disqualified him. Republicans are desperate to put him in a key position to commit new crimes, protecting his Fuhrer as an Injustice on SCROTUS (Republican Unconstitutional VD). RESIST!!  VOTE BLUE!!

From Think Progress: A New Jersey school board candidate often made racist comments on Facebook, calling Black people “animals” and “useless wastes of life.” He also frequently made homophobic and transphobic comments, mocked people with disabilities, and disparaged those calling for criminal justice reform.

Richard Jankowski, a 51-year-old candidate in Monroe Township, Gloucester County, made the comments on Facebook from 2013 to 2016, according to a report from the New Jersey Globe. Jankowski’s posts were all public, meaning anyone could see them.

“Glad the legal system finally got it right,” Jankowski wrote in July 2013, a day after George Zimmerman was acquitted of all charges for killing Travyon Martin, a Black unarmed teenager.

What else would you expect from the town’s Republican Party Chairman? RESIST!! VOTE BLUE!!

The sun has not hit the window yet, so the CatBox is comfortable.  I’ll have to button it up right after the Fantasy Football Draft.  My Broncos play the unclothed ones this evening, but it’s not televised here.  Have a great weekend.

Only Squatch and I attended the live draft, but she had her war paint on.  When I chatted hello, was she ready, and how did she do, she wouldn’t even reply.  I guess she wants a puddy tat toe jam. Surprised smile

From The New Yorker: Hours after the Pentagon announced that it would postpone a military parade that Donald J. Trump had requested, Vice-President Mike Pence staged a one-man parade in Trump’s honor.

Explaining his decision to mount the solitary parade, Pence told reporters, “It is the least I can do to pay tribute to the greatness and majesty of Donald Trump, a true American hero.”

Pence acknowledged, however, that marching alone “was a neat way to keep the budget down.”

From YouTube (Robert Reich Channel): Robert Reich: Trump’s Trade Wars

Of course the Reich on the left, Robert Reich, is right. And even the Reich on the right, the Republican Reich, knows better than this, but the Republican Reich is too cowardly to risk a tantrum from Putin’s Piddle Puppet. RESIST!! VOTE BLUE!!

From USA Today: Georgia police are defending an officer’s decision to use a taser on a 87-year-old elderly woman using a knife to cut dandelions.

Law enforcement officials say the woman, Martha Al-Bishara, should have followed orders. But Al-Bishara does not speak English and did not understand the officer’s request, her family says.

Clearly the Republican Party controls Georgia police policy. Do we need Stacey Abrams there or what? RESIST!! VOTE BLUE!!

This is so weird.  It feels like Sunday, because WWWendy just left.  In a few minutes, she’ll be headed South for the country music festival in Brownsville, OR.  It’s a little cooler today and tomorrow, and the wind came up to blow the smoke away.  I hope you’re having a great Sunday, even if it is Thursday.

From YouTube (MSNBC Channel): Unlike Nixon, President Donald Trump Admin Pursues Enemies List In Public

By revoking John Brennan’s security clearance without due cause, Little Donnie Dipshit, aka Putin’s Piddle Puppet, is making the US and the world more dangerous. Brennan was so knowledgeable that he was in the room with Obama when Osama bin Laden (R-SA) was killed. From Alternet: In interviews with Politico, an assortment of Republicans admit they are willing to concede the House to the Democrats in the 2018 midterms based on the belief that a move to impeach President Donald Trump would backfire on them

According to the report, Republican believe they will hold their majority in the Senate and would rebuff any attempt by a Democratic-majority House to dump Trump and that voters will want to move on, with Trump’s base becoming even more solidified.

As Politico reports, “more than a dozen Republican politicians, activists and consultants — including some current and former Trump campaign aides with direct lines to the president — said they are increasingly convinced a Democratic victory and subsequent impeachment push would backfire and ultimately help the president in 2020.”

I tend to agree. As much as my soul cries out for impeachment, until we have a DINO-proof super-majority in both branches of the legislature, we will fail. And unless we can impeach Pence simultaneously, we’ll be even worse off than we are today. RESIST!! VOTE BLUE!!

From TPM: Aretha Franklin, the undisputed “Queen of Soul” who sang with matchless style on such classics as “Think,” ”I Say a Little Prayer” and her signature song, “Respect,” and stood as a cultural icon around the globe, has died at age 76 from advanced pancreatic cancer.

Publicist Gwendolyn Quinn tells The Associated Press through a family statement that Franklin died Thursday at 9:50 a.m. at her home in Detroit. The statement said “Franklin’s official cause of death was due to advance pancreatic cancer of the neuroendocrine type, which was confirmed by Franklin’s oncologist, Dr. Philip Phillips of Karmanos Cancer Institute” in Detroit.

The family added: “In one of the darkest moments of our lives, we are not able to find the appropriate words to express the pain in our heart. We have lost the matriarch and rock of our family. The love she had for her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins knew no bounds.”

RIP, Hero! Thoughts and prayers, please, for all the survivors that love her. RESIST!! VOTE BLUE!!

It’s horrid hot, humid and smoky here in Portland.  It irritates my COPD and burns my eyes.  Store to Door delivered groceries, and I put them away.  This is my shower night, but WWWendy’s schedule is a bit crazy between having to work overtime and going out of town for a few days.  My shower times will be tomorrow morning instead of this evening, Monday evening instead of Sunday Morning, and Thursday evening instead of Wednesday evening.  Tomorrow that may interfere with my research and writing.  Happy Hump Day!

Fantasy Football Reminder:

The live online draft for our own fantasy football league, Lefty Blog Friends, is this Saturday, August 18, at 9 AM PDT (10 AM MDT, 11 AM CDT, 12 Noon EDT).  I strongly recommend that players log into the league and participate in a mock draft between now and then.  If you cannot attend, the league will draft for you.  See you then!

Short Takes:

From YouTube (MSNBC Channel): Senator Bernie Sanders: ‘President Donald Trump Has Got To Be Defeated’

Congrats, Bernie, but only 94%?!!? We will win the struggle between "establishment Democrats" and "social" Democrats by attrition. As time goes on more and more establishment Democrats will become socialists. RESIST!! VOTE BLUE!!

From NY Times: On a night when voters in four states went to the polls, Democrats delivered groundbreaking primary victories for a transgender woman in Vermont, a Muslim woman in Minnesota and an African-American woman in Connecticut, while voters in Wisconsin nominated a top state education official, Tony Evers, to challenge Gov. Scott Walker, one of the most vulnerable high-profile Republicans of the midterms cycle.

These diverse Democrats look like winners to me. Also, Kobitch won the Pigination as Reich-KKKandidate for Governor in KS, improving the Democrat’s chances there. Go Laura Kelly!! RESIST!! VOTE BLUE!!

From Think Progress: In Arkansas, residents on Medicaid need to report 80-hours-a-month of work or service online to keep their health insurance under new requirements. So far, more than 5,000 people have failed to do so, jeopardizing their continuous coverage.

About 5,426 people who qualify for the public health insurance program designed for low-income people failed to report 80 hours of work in June and July, according to the latest numbers from Arkansas’ Department of Human Services. If they fail to report hours in August, Arkansas officials will boot people who are otherwise eligible for Medicaid off the program for the rest of the calendar year.

In July, only 844 residents actually satisfied the work requirement, which must be reported online. Nearly 13,000 failed to in July. Of the roughly 43,000 residents subject to the work requirement — a number expected to grow as state officials are rolling out the requirements by age group — the majority were exempt from the requirement.
