Despite sleeping lots yesterday, I still managed to oversleep this morning, so I’m running behind.  I’m current with replies.  Tomorrow is a holy day in the Church of the Ellipsoid Orb.  Sadly the morning meditation between my Broncos and the Panthers will not be televised here. 🙁

From NY Times: There may have been a backlash against voter suppression laws, bringing more minorities to the polls, not fewer. The share of Hispanic voters rose in many states won by Obama. That can be attributed both to the surging Hispanic population in the country and to the Obama campaign’s incredible get-out-the-vote operation. It is less clear why the black vote held steady or grew in many of those states. In Ohio, for example, blacks jumped from being 11 percent of the voters in 2008 to 15 percent this year. From nj.com: If anyone in Washington could have weathered a sex scandal, Gen. David Petraeus would seem like that person.

Yet the retired general who inspired admiration bordering on reverence from so many in the capital was abruptly out Friday as Central Intelligence Agency director, just one day after President Barack Obama learned of Petraeus’s extramarital relationship.

Intelligence community insiders say Petraeus was felled by an increasing sensitivity in the Obama administration to extramarital dalliances, stemming from recent cases in which officials at various levels have seen their careers scuttled for similar personal misconduct.

Marital infidelity could be Petraeus’ first step to qualify as a Republican candidate for President in 2016.

I woke up a little after 5 PM yesterday.  Thinking it was 5 AM today, I opened my email and found that my PP email was offline, so the site was down AGAIN.  I spent another two hours fighting with HSP tech support and convinced them to migrate Politics Plus to a new server.  The increase in speed and decrease in latency is stunning, so it looks like our problems are worked out.  This is today’s only article.  I need a rest.  I’m current with replies.  Tomorrow appears routine.

They have an America problem, a country that is growing more diverse and, on a wide range of issues, shows a sensible moderation and social tolerance far out of step with radio ranting and Tea Party rigidity. It wasn’t just Hispanics who heartily rejected Republicans on Tuesday. It also was African-Americans, Asian-Americans, young people and, to perhaps the greatest effect, women.

I’m proud to be in the minority of white men, who voted for community, not for whiteness.

From NY Times: Elected officials in New York and New Jersey scrambled Monday to enable displaced citizens to vote in the election on Tuesday, relocating scores of coastal polling places that had become unusable because of power failures, flooding or evacuations.

New Jersey and New York both said they would allow voters uprooted by Hurricane Sandy to cast provisional ballots anywhere in their states.

Even in safe states your vote is too precious a right and too important a duty to throw it away.

From Brad Blog: Investigators today arrested a Southern Nevada woman suspected of trying to vote twice this week at two different polling locations.

Roxanne Rubin was taken into custody as she arrived for work at the Riviera hotel-casino, investigators said. Rubin, 56, is a registered Republican who lives in Henderson, according to the Clark County Registrar.

Rubin allegedly cast a vote Monday at the Anthem Community Center in Henderson. Later that day, she tried to vote a second time at an early voting location on Eastern Avenue, investigators said.

Finally a real case of voter fraud, and I don’t have to tell you which party did it.
