This is my only article today, and I won’t be sending links messages on Care2.  WWWendy went to the beach with a high school buddy, who is visiting family in Vancouver, WA, so she wont be coming until this evening.  Also, it’s a holy day in the Church of the Ellipsoid Orb, even though my Broncos don’t worship until Monday Night, when they visit the Chiefs.  Finally, the news is dominated by contradicting accounts on whether and how much the Republican Reich is interfering with the FBI investigation of Pervert Kavanookie.  I’ll wait until I actually know what’s going on.  In any case, I’ll be up late this evening doing chores, so I’m resting today.

From Washington Post: Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts said Saturday that she plans to “take a hard look” at running for president in 2020 after the midterm elections in November, her most explicit acknowledgment yet of her national ambitions.

Warren made the statement in response to a question about a possible presidential run at a town hall event in Holyoke, Mass., and she explicitly put her deliberations in the context of the searing drama playing out in Washington around the Supreme Court nomination of Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh.

“This week, I watched 11 men who were too chicken to ask a woman a single question. I watched as Brett Kavanaugh acted like he was entitled to that position and angry at anyone who would question him. I watched powerful men helping a powerful man make it to an even more powerful position. I watched that, and I thought: Time’s up,” she said, according to a video posted by Warren’s Senate campaign. “It’s time for women to go to Washington and fix our broken government, and that includes a woman at the top. So here’s what I promise: After Nov. 6, I will take a hard look at running for president."

From BBC: China is attempting to "meddle" in the forthcoming US mid-term elections, President Donald Trump told world leaders during a UN meeting.

"They don’t want me or us to win because I am the first president to ever challenge China on trade," Mr Trump said on Wednesday.

Mr Trump did not offer proof for his claim. China and the US have been in a battle over tariffs since his election.

China’s foreign minister denounced the "unwarranted accusation".

“When Obama spoke at the U.N. he did not get a single laugh—not one,” Trump told reporters. “I feel sorry for the people who had to sit through his speeches. They weren’t funny at all.”

In contrast, Trump said, “I killed at the U.N.”

From The New Yorker: Facing the daunting challenge of appearing to pay attention to a woman’s utterances during a televised hearing, Senator Charles Grassley spent the weekend rehearsing what aides are calling his “pretending to listen” face.

In round-the-clock practice sessions that aides characterized as “excruciating,” the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee struggled to simulate even a trace of interest in what a woman had to say.

“Chuck has never pretended to listen to a woman before,” an aide said. “These are uncharted waters.”

According to the aide, Grassley’s fake-listening skills “are rudimentary at best,” and the senator was able to hold only a semi-attentive facial expression for seven seconds before it showed unmistakable signs of boredom, irritation, and contempt.

From Politico: Six of Republican Rep. Paul Gosar’s nine siblings set tongues wagging in Arizona and beyond with some of the more memorable ads of the year, urging voters of the state’s 4th congressional district to boot him from office in November.

The brothers and sisters instead encouraged voters to cast their ballots for the congressman’s Democratic opponent, David Brill, who surfaced the three spots on his YouTube page Friday. They quickly went viral.

One ad — entitled, “A Family Defends Its Honor” — opens with David Gosar, a lawyer.

That morning, Ford alerted an associate via email that Whelan had looked at her LinkedIn page, according to the email, which was reviewed by The Post. LinkedIn allows some subscribers to see who views their pages. Ford sent the email about 90 minutes after The Post shared her name with a White House spokesman and hours before her identity was revealed in a story posted on its website.

A White House spokesman said Friday that neither Kavanaugh nor anyone in the White House gave Ford’s name to Whelan before it was disclosed by The Post. Whelan did not respond to a request for comment on how he first learned of Ford’s identity.

From Washington Post: Just as he did several weeks ago to prepare for his confirmation hearings for the Supreme Court, Brett M. Kavanaugh was back inside a room at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building — again facing questioners readying him for a high-stakes appearance in the Senate.

This time, the questions were much different. An array of White House aides, playing the role of various senators on the Judiciary Committee, quizzed Kavanaugh last week about his sex life and other personal matters in an attempt to prepare him for a hearing that would inevitably be uncomfortable.

In his answers during the practice runs, aides said, Kavanaugh condemned sexual assault and carefully avoided seeming to discredit Christine Blasey Ford, a psychology professor in Northern California who has accused the nominee of pinning her to a bed, groping her and putting his hand over her mouth to stifle her screams as he tried to take off her clothes at a drunken high school party in the early 1980s.

But Kavanaugh grew frustrated when it came to questions that dug into his private life, particularly his drinking habits and his sexual proclivities, according to three people familiar with the preparations, who requested anonymity to discuss internal deliberations. He declined to answer some questions altogether, saying they were too personal, these people said.
