The heat wave continues here in the CatBox with record highs forecast for the next three days: 86°, 90° and 90°. I’m very tired, because I was up late last night. Wendy was a couple hours late. Her dad passed yesterday. In spite of her grief, she came to do my care anyway, God bless her. Please remember her and her family in your kind wishes and prayers.

From NBC News: A co-founder of Facebook called for the government to break up the tech giant in an op-ed article Thursday in The New York Times.

“The Facebook that exists today is not the Facebook that we founded in 2004,” Chris Hughes, who started Facebook with Mark Zuckerberg in their Harvard dorm, told NBC News after the op-ed was published.

“And the one that we have today I think is far too big. It’s far too powerful. And most importantly, its CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, is not accountable,” Hughes said of his former business partner.

Trump, despite the common mindset, is not the problem. If he were, the House would have passed Articles of Impeachment, and enough principled Republicans would have joined with Democrats in the Senate to convict and remove Trump from office. Why hasn’t that happened? The Senate has no principled Republicans. They all goose-step with their Majority Fuhrer, Bought Bitch Mitch McConnell. He says, “Case closed!”

Senator Mitch McConnell, the majority leader, called on Congress on Tuesday to move on from the Mueller report and issued his own verdict from the Senate floor: “Case closed.”

“With an exhaustive investigation complete, would the country finally unify to confront the real challenges before us?” Mr. McConnell said. “Or would we remain consumed by unhinged partisanship, and keep dividing ourselves to the point that Putin and his agents need only stand on the sidelines and watch as their job is done for them?”

“Regrettably,” he continued, “the answer is obvious.”

Mr. McConnell’s speech pointed up the profound gap between the Republican-controlled Senate and the Democrat-controlled House. House Democrats are locked in an escalating fight with President Trump, who is trying to slam shut House investigations of all sorts. From The New Yorker: President-elect Donald J. Trump will no longer have day-to-day responsibility for driving his businesses into bankruptcy and will instead focus on bankrupting the country, one of his leading surrogates said on Wednesday.

Appearing on Fox News, Kellyanne Conway said that while Trump no doubt could “plunge both his businesses and the country into bankruptcy at the same time,” he feels that he “owes it to the American people to put them first.”

Acknowledging that Trump has no government experience, Conway said that his years of bankrupting a variety of companies would prove “invaluable” as he does the same to the United States.

“It’s going to surprise a lot of people when they see how great he is at this,” she said.

From Raw Story: resident Donald Trump on Wednesday asserted executive privilege over all of special counsel Robert Mueller’s report on Russian interference during the 2016 presidential election.

The assertion of executive privilege came just as the House Judiciary Committee was about to hold a vote on holding Attorney General Bill Barr in contempt. The president’s assertion over the entire report comes despite the fact that most of the report has already been made public.

I’m not sure where we go from here, but resolving it through the courts could take years. We should still charge Barrf with Contempt of Congress. RESIST!!

Does Putin Like His Quo?

The most important elements needed to establish a criminal conspiracy between Trump and Putin are mens rea and quid pro quo. To establish mens rea, Mueller needed to prove that Trump intended to commit that crime. Mueller could not establish legal intent without interviewing Trump to determine his state of mind. To establish quid pro quo Mueller needed to prove an exchange of value (this for that). He established quid. Quo is self evident. Even Trump’s lackeys can’t explain it.

President Trump on Friday seemed to adopt Vladimir Putin’s talking points, saying after a phone call with the Russian president that Russia was “not looking at all to get involved in Venezuela.” He said this even though his own secretary of state, Mike Pompeo, said Russia had “invaded” the South American country. Pompeo even said Russia persuaded embattled President Nicolás Maduro not to flee the country.

So in a series of appearances on the Sunday shows this weekend, Pompeo was tasked with some explaining. But his explanation doesn’t make much sense. And a closer look at the situation reinforces just how soft Trump has been on Russia — at least rhetorically.

Appearing on CBS, ABC and “Fox News Sunday,” Pompeo suggested he wasn’t familiar with the “context” of Trump’s Friday remarks but argued that they did not contradict anything.

“I didn’t see the full context of the quote there. I don’t know what context that was in,” Pompeo told CBS’s “Face the Nation.” “I do know this: The president has made clear, we want everyone out, and that includes the Russians.”

He added on “Fox News Sunday”: “President’s been very clear on this. He said — I think it was in a tweet several weeks back — the Russians have to get out. That remains our view.”

It’s a truism of politics that whenever a surrogate says their boss has been “very clear” about something, it usually means they haven’t. And that’s certainly the case here.

Trump has indeed said that Russia should get out of Venezuela, but it was hardly a proactive declaration. It came not in a tweet (as Pompeo thought), but in response to a question during a Q&A with reporters. And Trump seemed anxious to get past the question…
