It’s another busy day here in the CatBox.  WWWendy is coming to destink the sweaty TomCat, goop, and help with chores.  Then I have to meet with the building manager to renew my lease, an hour of routine paperwork.  Yesterday’s PET scan was as unpleasant as always, but it will be interesting to see the results a week from Friday.  This is my only article today, but expect me back in the saddle tomorrow.  Happy Heat Wave Hump Day!

Short Takes:

From OPB: Gov. Kate Brown on Tuesday unveiled coronavirus testing-related metrics the state must meet before schools can reopen, and it became immediately evident that many of the state’s largest school districts will be online-only this fall.

Brown’s announcement was swiftly followed by news from school districts: Portland Public Schools will have online classes only until at least Nov. 5 for all grades. Beaverton School District will be conducting classes online until at least Nov. 13. Salem-Keizer, North Clackamas and Tigard-Tualatin districts will also start the year holding online classes with plans to stay remote until at least late fall.

The list is likely to continue growing.

According to the latest county reopening guidelines announced by the governor, the entire state needs to have a weekly positivity rate of less than 5% for three weeks. The latest statewide positivity rates for COVID-19 tests for the previous three weeks were 5.8%, 5.8% and 4.6%.

Portland Public Schools Superintendent Guadalupe Guerrero warned online classes could stretch past November for his district.

“As an educator, I know that there is no true replacement for face-to-face learning and the interaction between a student and a dedicated teacher or staff member,” Guerrero said in a statement. “But our announcement today is in keeping with our highest priority during a global pandemic, which is the health and well being of our students and employees.”

This is how Democrats manage education if the face of Trump’s* Republican plague. Kudos to Kate Brown! Oregon leads the way!  RESIST!!

  1. I had to turn off a couple of fans here today, and we are expecting rain off and on all week, which should keep us in the low eighties and lower.

Lincoln Project – They also have 3 ads for candidates: For Al Gross in Alaska, For Steve Bullock in Montana, and Against Susan Collins in Maine.

    Meidas Touch

    Really American

    Robert Reich

Cartoon – Oh, really? That many?

Map – More of the same.

OPB – In Colorado, we have four Democratic districts as opposed to three Republican ones – the Dems are all in high population areas, so the Republican districts cover most of the state’s real estate. I honestly do not know what to expcet here.

MSNBC – A number of Democrats gave him some serious pushback, including Jank Jackson, Eric Swalwell, Pramila Jayapal (see the “Really American” vid), and a freshman from Colorado, Joe Neguse, who holds Jared Polis’s old seat, now that Jared is Governor. I was pleased and proud of all of them.

Past – A direct descendant of the Easter Rising. So sad, so tragic that it had to take so long

    • All good videos, I’m passing RR’s video on to friends.
Thank you for these, Joanne. Appreciate it.  04

    • LP: Good stuff.
MT: “Death panels!”  Hot Damn! There they are, my cousin was right, only that was 12 years ago!
Jayapal handed it to the bastard!
      RR: Never wrong!

    • MM: Touching memories. Scary to think that things will never be the same, especially since tRump ignored it from the beginning…calling it fake news.
MT: Shameful to see how tRump, pEnce and the repugs praise the killing of their people in Texas.
RR: Speaks the truth about the heartless so-called leader.
      Thanks Joanne

    • Rep. Jayapal in “She Got It Right” doesn’t take any BS from Bill “Boogalo Boi” Barr:

“Excuse me Mr. Barr – This Is MY Time & I Control It”

    • Wonderful vids! 03

  2. Cartoon: Yep, pretty much, and it also helps Ivanka too. ugh!!
    TVU: No change from yesterday.
OPB: Kudos to your Governor! Spoken like a true, compassionate leader. Shame my county here in Tx.,  won’t/can’t/doesn’t care about our students/teachers/staff. We are 3 weeks off at the start date, for on-line, but then school starts at all levels, physically. Kudos to OR’s districts that show compassion, caring, concern  for their students and staff(s). The trump pressure is strong and Abbott (Gov.) most assuredly will comply with his mandates. I worry a lot about this subject.
MSNBC: I watched parts of it during the day, got heated a few times, but also…Barr is a lying, as- kissing sycophant to dt.
    U2: Good song! Thank you!

Hi WWWendy! I hope all is good with you. Hope that you can get your chores done, hope your application goes w/o a hitch, so that you can get in a nap too. Take good care, and Thanks, Tom.

NAILED IT, AND HIS DESPICABLE SELF!!!

    • TJI #1 – Heaven knows that educated idiots exist, and so do people with little to no formal education but lots of good sense (which is why I keep trying to remind people that it isn’t the UNeducated Trump loves so much but the POORLY educated), but if one must make leadership decisions on credentials alone, education is not a bad  choice of credential.

  3. ‘Toon: Maybe Trump’s orange glow crap is made there, as well.
TVU: On the way to 5 million.  So far, my county is still in the yellow, up there above Tampa Bay, in Fl.  Mar-a-Lago is in a red county.
OPB: Good on her, and them!  Somebody has to stand up to the fools who think that standing up to the experts is a worthy enterprise.  Hey, Pat, do you know who it was, in Texas, who said “Somebody’s got to stand up to the experts!” in 2009, at a state committee hearing, as he/she tried to get creationism into the school curriculum?
MSNBC: Will Barr ever face impeachment?  Nah! Will Barr ever face disbarment?  Could be….one never knows, do one?
    U2: RESIST! RESIST!

  4. Cartoon: Yep…over worked/under paid. He’s out to kill them.
    TVU: Still climbing everywhere.
OPB: Our schools aren’t planning on opening. Governor Newsom states that the health of the children, teachers and school officials come first. I applaud your Governor there in Portland too. The health of the people should come first.
MSNBC: I too had it on for a while and got sick of his flipping lies. How bArr can sit there and lie like his leader is despicable. I hope it all catches up to him, tRump and all of the other rotten R’s. We’ve had enough of this crap.
BFTP: U2 Great song and group.
Hope you and Wendy have a great day and gets things done. Tell Wendy, “hi”.
Try and stay cool. We’re going to have high temps for the next three days.
    Take care. Thanks TomCat

  5. You’re busy and you sound chipper, TomCat. Good.

4:09 This doesn’t look like a stinger, so go ahead.

Cartoon: As long as he gets the profits and more.

    Update: 4.5 million 19

OPB: Gov. Kate Brown is both a very wise woman and a very courageous woman. She made the right decision, based on science and in the best interest of all Oregonians, but it’ll invite further wrath from Trump. He’ll insist that she can’t allow BLM protests to continue while keeping schools closed while trying to damage her reputation and hurt her personally as much as possible. Kudos to Gov. Brown; let’s hope she has the strength to pursue this and that she’s joined by many other governours.

MSNBC: I’m not one who uses swearwords easily and this time I can find no appropriate words for this 💩. The man is utterly despicable. I wonder how it feels to be the most hated man in the US after Trump.

BFTP: This song, this band, this video, this era…so many memories.

  6. Thanks and way-late hurry hugs! 26
