Bill Maher from 1/17

It’s finally that time of week again, so here are four excellent video clips from Bill’s show last night.  Enjoy!

Monologue: I Need a Vacation

One week of following Fuhrer Trump* could debilitate anyone. Look what it did to me! I agree that Trump* will deny knowing Don Jr. I want the Audible version of “A Very Stable Genius”.

Andrew Yang 2020

I like one thing about Yang. Employed, unemployed, and unemployable people all need a living wage.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi

Nancy made a good point about how 70% of the American people want to hear witnesses in Fuhrer Trump’s* pseudo-trial. Will Republicans listen to the people, or will they goose-step behind Fuhrer Trump* into political extinction?

New Rule: Your Not-So-Highness

There must be fifty ways to leave your Republicans. Here only Fuhrer Drumpfenfarten* insists on being called ‘Your Highness’, but Bought Bitch Moscow Mitch is lobbying for the title.

Eight weeks without this shoe was seven weeks too long.

  1. W/watch later…
tho’ I did cheat to watch Ms. Pelosi and Bill.
    Thx, Tom.

  2. If you’re wanting an audio book “A Very Stable Genius” you could try the Portland Library.  You might remember I got books on CD for my Mom because her macular degeneration prevented her from reading.  They were a Godsend!

I did an Advanced Search at our library (the KCMO & all the suburban libraries share their material – so it’s a huge pool to draw from) – and found these audio option:

Didn’t find a book on CDs or a streaming one – but since it was just released they might be coming later.

But you can see (and expect) there’s quite a long list of folks who have it on Hold.

    • The cheapest I found outside of Amazon was $17.49 at  Book Depository dot com, with free shipping.  It’s on pre-order at the moment.

    • Portland Public Library does have e-books but they are not Kindle Compatible.  I pay $8/month to audible.com for which I get one book/month.  That includes biggies like the Earth Children Series (auel), The World At War (Wouk), Shogun (Clavell), and Hawaii (Michener).  I just pre-ordered A Very Stable Genius for the 21st, its release date.  The Next Time I turn on my Kindle Fire tablet, after that date, it will auto-download. 19

  3. Bill is right. We have to get rid of the orange monster in the White House.

Yang seems to be a good man and he said on the Late Show with Colbert the other night that he’s hoping to be in the next administration with a Dem at the helm.

    God bless Nancy Pelosi!

  4.  Thanks for posting, TomCat. Looking forward to seeing all four of them tonight. I have to go to a memorial service now, so I’ll watch later.

  5. Monologue – One week of following Trump, and a slow week at that! But I do get it. WRT Bernie/Liz, there’s an excellent article at Daily Kos called “I know who is lying in the Bernie/Elizabeth fight.” I think it is probably pretty accurate.

Yang – Every time I have seen and heard him he has seemed flippant to me. He seems much less so in this interview. Much more thoughtful and serious. (I would like to share this one-liner: “I am Asian. Kaulk-Asian.”)

Pelosi – I am so glad she is our Speaker. And a very small part of that, but which can be important, and which I saw in this interview, is that she stays on topic. Stays on topic, doesn’t waffle, consistently tells it like it is. Like iit is in the Constitution. When people are losing faith in government as they are now, someone, like Barbara Jordan, and now like Nancy, must claim and demonstrate faith in our Constitution. Imperfect it may be. But deviating from it (without, for instance, amending it) is a recipe for suicide. And TC, listen to yourself. “Will Republicans listen to the people?” Hell, why would they start now of all times?

Families – Well, as regards royalty, in the first place, they are not MY royalty, so I already stand back from them a little. Secondly, everyone seems to think they are idle. Not so. You would be amazed how hard they work. No, it’s not physical labor, it’s mostly working with, supporting, campaigning for, NGOs which have formed to do things like foster the environment (Harry’s done a lot in that area; it’s how he and Meghan met), feed and educate children (that was huge for Diana; she both worked hard and cared deeply), save and sustain monuments and historic sites (you may not care that Charles works with that, but I assure you, the folks who work on Antiques Roadshow UK appreciate his work a lot.) Oh, and incidentally, they also pay taxes on their incomes. Bill alluded to some of the rules they are required to follow – in many ways they ARE all prisoners, including Elizabeth. That, of course, doesn’t necessarily make them nice people to be around, and I certainly can’t blame Harry and Meghan for wanting to get away. But it isn’t as if they do nothing to deserve those titles. That just isn’t how it works.

  6. Wow…Bill’s finally back.
    Great show.
Yang: He has a lot of good values he want to share.Enjoyed watching Nancy. She’s an amazing woman.
I hope what Bill mentioned does happen, that we will get rid of tRump soon.

  7. Thanks and Hugs to all! 28
