Given that  my chair is more comfortable than my bed, let me try to give you at least least a little coverage of the Republican hate Obama and celebrate the murders festival.  What I have seen is more ugly than that description.

In speech after speech at the National Rifle Association’s annual convention here this weekend, its top leaders and political allies blasted President Obama and other gun control advocates, warned against “all-out, historic attacks” on the constitutional right to possess firearms, and issued a rallying cry to members to become a political force in next year’s midterm elections and the 2016 presidential rac…

…The lineup of speakers at Friday’s Leadership Forum looked like the early field for the 2016 Republican presidential primaries, featuring Senator Ted Cruz and Gov. Rick Perry of Texas, Gov. Bobby Jindal of Louisiana, and Sarah Palin, the former Alaska governor and Republican vice-presidential candidate, as well as video appearances by Representative Paul Ryan and Gov. Scott Walker, both of Wisconsin.

Ms. Palin, wearing a black T-shirt that said “Women Hunt,” criticized gun control proposals that “won’t even work for their stated intended purposes.” Mr. Cruz warned that any infringement on the Bill of Rights would undermine the entire Constitution. And just about every speaker poked fun at the N.R.A.’s favorite cast of enemies: Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr., Senator Dianne Feinstein of California, Senator Charles E. Schumer of New York, and Mr. Bloomberg, whom Mr. LaPierre described as the “national nanny.”

Critics of the N.R.A. lined up outside the convention center…

  1. Just when you think the NRA has scraped the bottom of the barrel, they reach down further and find a few more molecules.

  2. From the NY Times:

Later on, he added the Boston Marathon bombings to bolster his position.“How many Bostonians wished they had a gun two weeks ago?” Mr. LaPierre said. “How many other Americans now ponder that life-or-death question?”

Interesting that LaPierre should add the Boston bombing to his rhetoric because a gun would not have made a damn bit of difference.  Nobody knew what was going on at the bombing site!  Two backpacks were surreptitiously placed near the finish line.  What good is a gun in those circumstances?

And as to the MIT police officer who was killed, while tragic certainly, he was trained and armed yet he still died.  How did the 2 brothers obtain their guns?  If they had been subjected to background checks, would they have been denied?  I understand that the FBI had been, at one point, watching the brothers, or at least the oldest one.

LaPierre is a scaremongering idiot as are all the NRA executive.  Add in the politicos like Bullseye Barbie, Ted "I need a padded cell" Cruz, Rick "Oops!" Perry and others, Houston must be a really fun place this weekend.

I think that the one really offensive thing I heard, other than the reference to the Boston bombing, was from Wayne LaPierre when he accused Mr Obama of politicising the New Town tragedy.  As I remember, following the murder of the 20 children and 6 adults, LaPierre and the NRA members were calling New Town residents trying to drum up support for the NRA and politicking against gun regulations.  THAT is politicising the tragedy!  THAT is rubbing salt in an open wound!  THAT is fearmongering at its worst!

  3. You said it,Lynn!  The NRA really turn my stomach.

  4. LaPierre looks as though he has a horrible case of gas. He acts as cranky as a colicky baby too.

  5. Lynn, as usual, you covered it all.  I am surprised the NRA didn't suggest we have back ground checks on bombs if we need them on guns.  The NRA is a front for gun manufacturers and do not represent the people they are preaching to at all.
