In case you’re wondering where I was, yesterday, I’m posting this from my hospital room.  Last night, for reasons unknown, my blood sugar level  crashed all the way to 24.  I was completely out of my mind, hallucinating like a Republican on election day.  Nothing like that has ever happened to me before.  When I arrived at the hospital, they decided that I had not recovered sufficiently from pneumonia/bronchitis and checked me in.  .My  friend brought my notebook earlier.  I will not sleep, because they poke and prod every 2 minutes.  Plus they have me on an Oxygen meter that screams an alarm at me at least once every two minutes.  A saline drip pumps it  in faster than I can pee out. And the food…  Personally, I’m considering an act of cannibalism in retribution.  In any case, a picture is worth a thousand words.  I hope you are entertained.

  1. Beleve me. i feel your pain. After all my hospital visits in the past year, you look like I felt.

Sending healing prayers and love your way.

  2. Tom, I am so sorry to hear that you are in the hospital, but I do hope that they get to the bottom of your respiratory infections and clear them up once and for all.  We miss you and your insight and wit.  Get well and come back soon.  Hugs,

  3. Get well soon, TomCat.  Sit back and let the doctors and nurses, particularly nurses, do their magic.  I think hospitals make their food crappy on purpose so that you won't want to stay there any longer than necessary.  Tack care!

  4. Oh poor TomCat!  Seriously low blood sugar is just horrible to add to everything else you have been suffering!  Poor TomCat – you look like I feel most days – poor chap!  I do hope they make you well before they send you home, I really do – you have had a dreadful six months!  Lots of prayers going up for you….

  5. Everyone hates being in a hospital, they never let you rest, but maybe that is the best place for you right now, they can get to the bottom of your health issues.  If you do resort to cannabalism, please don't eat a skinny one, you need some nourishment.   We are rooting for you.  Edie

  6. The bright side is that they might actually get you on the road to recovery. So put up with the poking and prodding. I've always found hospital staff to be the most caring medical pros. They choose to work in this one-on-one environment with those sick enough to be hospitalized. I sure couldn't do it.

Take heart. We're all pulling for you.

  7. You're where you need – certainly not WANT, but NEED – to be.  (Frankly I was surprised they dismissed you w/ an O2 sat of 85%)

Take care of yourself, and get better!

  8. A BS of 24 (1.3 on my scale)!  You've beaten me, not that I thought we were having a race to the bottom!  You are where you need to be, as Dr Nameless says.  Room service, all the personal attention you could hope for, no laundry, no cooking, no cleaning, good air — you've got it made for the short term!

Please, do take care of yourself and let the doctors and nurses do their jobs!  We are all rooting for you and will be here when you are able to return.

I will put your article on Care2 and provide people with an update!
