n Sunday, Richard Ojeda (remember him from when I was posting a separate video roundup daily? He’s now running for Congress, and I hope he wins. He’s a fighter) publicly defended the six veterans unlawful order video, and of course pissed off MAGA. His response appeared yesterday. Also yesterday, The Smile reported that AOC has donated 1600 turkeys to hungry people in her district. Tell me again how both sides are the same. Also, my “Daily Dose of Democracy” newsletter said that Marjorie Taylor Greene’s resignation is just the first of what will be a bunch. You would think a MAGA President would be aware how whiny MAGA members are, but apparently not. An unnamed GOP rep said “”This entire White House team has treated ALL members like garbage. ALL…” and threatened the loss of the majority by the GOP before the midterms. Hey, from his mouth to God’s ear!

From Democratic Underground. Not exactly news – but I love it. I love what it says – and even more what it doesn’t say.

From Common Dreams. Only 70%? Sorry, but that’s not even close to where it should be (heck, more people disapprove of Citizens United than of a shooting, killing war for no reason.) Venezuela is not Iraq – there was some excuse for falling for that one. This time – not so much.

Yes, Wednesday is a bit late for “The Week Ahead.” But it wouldn’t surprise me if it is still unfolding. This week is another big one.

Yesterday, Robert Reich posted Episode #7 in his DEBUNK series. Also, the New York Times finally nailed Trump** – in an opinion piece (SMH). At least it was the full board, and I have to admit they did it thoroughly. We don’t need to be told this. But you may know people who do. Not MAGAts, who won’t listen, but “independents” and “undecideds.” And people who have never heard of Project 2025 (Joyce herself ran into one of these a few days ago. She says she didn’t try to convey the full scope of it, but instead focused on a topic close to the person’s heart. This person was a naturalized citizen, so she focused on immigration.)

Mary Trump makes some very sound points here. I hope that the American people are not too caught up in the hysteria to hear her message.

Wonkette knows, and AOC knows, that this won’t go anywhere in the current House. But Wonkette also points out that that fact is “half her point.” I personally am more interested in the other half – but that’s me.

It’s a lazy day here in the CatBox. There is not much news that we have not already covered, so this is my only article today. Portland is entering an excessive heat waning with several days over 90° and Sunday and Monday over 100°. Tomorrow please expect no more than a Personal Update or an Open Thread. Republicans on Parade–7/24/2020

Here is the one hundred eightieth article in our Republicans on Parade series, featuring individuals who personify what the Republican Party has become. Today’s winner is the idiot, hate-filled Congressman Ted “No No” Yoho [R-FL]. He is so honored for a bogus apology to the magnificent AOC after making vile misogynous slurs.

If you click on only one thing today, let it be Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Thursday morning speech, delivered from the House floor and directed to a fellow member of Congress, but really to us all.

“You can be a powerful man and accost women,” said the New York Democrat. “You can have daughters and accost women, without remorse. You can be married and accost women. You can take photos, and project an image to the world of being a family man, and accost women, without remorse, and with a sense of impunity. It happens every day in this country.”

Two days prior, on the steps of the Capitol, Ocasio-Cortez found herself in a heated conversation with Rep. Ted Yoho (R-Fla.). He called her “disgusting,” he said she was “out of [her] freaking mind,” and when the discussion ended, Yoho allegedly uttered the words, “f—ing b—h.”

Kudos to AOC!

On Yoho the Yo Yo, the one thing that baffles me is how that Republican hatemonger and misogynist has escaped getting a parade before now! I apologize for the delay!

RESIST!!

PHP is a programming language used to build websites. We have it at all through our hosting partner, BlueHost. In order to update it, we have to go through Bluehost. During his life, TomCat was the only one who had access to our account there. I (JD) am now the only one. I have been to BlueHost and investigated updating our PHP to 8.3 or even to 8.1. I found instructions to do so - in fact, I found two conflicting sets of instructions. I went through one set of the steps and got the message that Our site could not handle 8.3, but that it had successfully updated to 8.1. I then went back here to see what it looked like. But I couldn't get in - either as an administrator or as a reader. It was just gone. I had to reach BlueHost by phone. It was determined that Politics Plus is in fact not compatible with any version of PHP newer than the one we have. BlueHost therefore uninstalled it for me, and the site came back to normal. Of course, like everyone else, I care about security. But I also am aware that TomCat elected to use different providers for several of the services that BlueHost provides, for instance backups. We are backed up daily - but not by BlueHost. However, out PHP is through Bluehost. I feel that if they are not worried about the older version, I am not going to worry about it. I believe that our security here is all or mostly through WordFence, whom I trust.
