From The New Yorker: In his first interview since being found guilty on all counts in his U.S. trial, the Mexican drug lord Joaquín (El Chapo) Guzmán called himself the victim of a “phony witch hunt.”

The former cartel leader made his blistering comments in a phone call to the television program “Fox & Friends,” whose hosts appeared surprised that he had somehow gained access to a phone and was able to get through to them.

“It was a phony witch hunt,” El Chapo said, of his trial. “It was a phony, rigged witch hunt, and the charges against me were fake news and a disgrace.”

Questioned whether he had worked in concert with other drug lords to bring narcotics into the United States, El Chapo said, “There was no collusion. And there was no evidence of collusion, because there was no collusion.”

Dang, Andy! I bet he’s waiting for a pardon from the Fuhrer. RESIST!!

Here is the one hundred forty-eighth article in our Republicans on Parade series, featuring individuals who personify what the Republican Party has become. The winner is an unnamed Republican elementary school teacher in Wake County, NC. She is so honored for racism, lying and conflating Trump-worship with Christianity in class.

0213ByrdA substitute teacher has resigned from a North Carolina school system following backlash for alleged comments to students, including that Martin Luther King Jr. was not assassinated but rather committed suicide.

Lisa Luten, the communications director for Wake County Public School System,, confirmed to USA TODAY on Tuesday that the teacher had resigned.

In an interview with the News & Observer in Raleigh, parent Billy Byrd said the incident began at Rand Road Elementary School in Garner when the substitute music teacher became frustrated that students weren’t following directions.

According to Byrd, students pushed back against the teacher’s false claim that King killed himself and wasn’t murdered. That’s when the substitute allegedly told Byrd’s 10-year-old son and other students of color that they would go to prison, based on the clothing they were wearing, Byrd told the newspaper.

“We always dress him with the best attire we can afford,” Byrd told local TV station ABC11. “For her to say that him having athletic wear or attire on was going to put him in a position to go to prison, that really bothered me the most.”… [emphasis added]

What upsets me most is that this racist, pseudo-Christian, Republican might be eligible for rehire.  She should never see the inside of a school again.

And remember this. Bob Murray is also the Republican corporate criminal that murdered six miners in Utah when he refused to obey safety regulations in his Crandall Canyon coal mine. RESIST!!

From NY Times: The tax preparers at H&R Block had to take a new class before their busy season started this year: empathy training.

They listened to a mock exchange between an employee and a customer whose refund would not just shrink but disappear. The fictitious client had received a $1,500 refund last year, but this year would owe $575.

The playacting was prescient. The tax overhaul that took effect last year promised relief, but now that returns are being filed, some people are baffled. They’re getting smaller refunds — or sometimes having to write a check — even though nothing in their situation seems to have changed.

The average refund among early filers was down 8.4 percent, according to the Internal Revenue Service.

If you are not a millionaire, and if you actually thought that the Republican Tax Scam would do something for YOU, bend over, grab your ankles, and say BAAA-A-A-A-A-A!! RESIST!!

The REAL El Paso Rally

Last night Resident Donald Trump, aka Pervertivo Bandito, continued his campaign to build “the wall”, intended in the short term to keep Latino’s out, and in the long term, to keep whites from escaping.  He held a phony rally in El Paso, TX.  There he and his Sheeple lied about El Paso, lied about the wall, and battered a reporter.  Fortunately, a couple blocks away, Beto O’Rourke led the real El Paso rally.

0212anti_trump_rally

Less than a mile away from the El Paso, Texas stadium in which President Donald Trump delivered what critics described as a bigoted and lie-filled case for a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, as many as 15,000 Texans rallied and marched Monday night in a powerful display of opposition to both the wall and the broad anti-immigrant agenda it represents.

“This is the strong and resilient border community I proudly grew up in,” Cynthia Pompa, advocacy coordinator with the ACLU’s Border Rights Center, said as the “March for Truth” kicked off early Monday evening. “No boots. No detention beds. No border walls. No more dollars for DHS.”…

According to Texas authorities, somewhere between 10,000 and 15,000 people gathered for the anti-Trump, anti-border wall rally across the street from the president’s event, where—contrary to the president’s characteristic lies—the venue could only hold 6,500 due to fire regulations…

It’s warmer here in the CatBox, and the weather is wet and muggy.  I’m feeling a little under the weather with a mild case of Republicosis.  That has made it a shitty day.  I got my order into Store to Door, and it’s a big one this week.

Short Takes:

From YouTube (Robert Reich Channel): Robert Reich: What is Inequality of Place?

In other words poor, white voters too stupid to understand that changing conditions, decayed infrastructure and Republican greed killed their jobs, not the Blacks and Latinos suffering in mega-cities, are the Reich on the right, the Republican Reich. The Reich on the left, Robert Reich, is right. RESIST!!

From YouTube (CNN Channel): BBC cameraman attacked at Trump rally

It’s not Trump. The criminal hatred, displayed by the Republican Reich, has been evident for years. Trump just reflects their image. RESIST!!

From Alternet: On Thursday, members of Congress from both parties announced they had a tentative working deal on border security.

And President Donald Trump’s allies are already trashing the deal as no good.

“By the way, on this new so-called compromise,” said [Faux Noise delinked] Fox News host Sean Hannity. “I’m getting details. $1.3 billion? That’s not even a wall, a barrier.” Referencing Trump’s rally in El Paso, Hannity added, “Any Republican that supports this garbage compromise, you will have to explain — look at this crowd, look at the country.”

“From the details I have seen,” tweeted [Nazi delinked] Hannity’s fellow right-wing commentator Laura Ingraham, “the word ‘principle’ shouldn’t be used to describe this deal.”

The anger was not just limited to Fox News. House Freedom Caucus chairman Mark Meadows (R-NC) raged against the agreement as well.

“This does not represent a fraction of what the president has promised the American people,” Meadows told the Washington Post. “I don’t speak for the president but I can’t imagine he will be applauding something so lacking.”

Under the agreement, Congress would provide $1.3 billion to construct 55 miles of bollard fencing, with restrictions to protect local communities and environments, $1.7 billion for port of entry security and humanitarian aid, and a 17 percent cut to the number of detention beds for Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

By all accounts, it is an evenly balanced compromise that forces Democrats and Republicans to make concessions and gives both part of what they wanted. But that will not fly with the hardliners in Trump’s camp.

The devil is in the details. Frankly, I think Democrats may have been too generous, but I’m always willing to negotiate, if Republicans negotiate in good faith. If they are, it’s the first time in years.  Assuming it passes, a shutdown becomes a nationally obvious Republican problem, again. RESIST!!

Lock Him Up?

Posted by at 12:14 pm  Politics

A lot of the energy surrounding the 2020 presidential campaign is focused on opposition to Donald Trump.  That, in my opinion, is an error.  Democrats need to focus, not on what he says, but on what we are doing.  Elizabeth Warren was trying to make that point, when she suggested that Trump might be in jail in 2020.  The crowd went wild!  But is locking him up by then a good idea?

0211Warren

Countless Democratic leaders have urged the party not to spend the 2020 campaign tangling with President Trump over tweets and taunts. But Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts made a novel argument on Sunday for ignoring the president: He could soon be in jail.

Addressing a crowd of several hundred at the Veterans Memorial Building in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Ms. Warren said it was up to Democrats to decide whether they would spend every day parrying “a racist tweet, a hateful tweet, something really dark and ugly” from the president. She said the party should ask: “Are we going to let him use those to divide us?”

“By the time we get to 2020, Donald Trump may not even be president,” Ms. Warren said. “In fact, he may not even be a free person.”

Prodded by reporters to explain the remark a few hours later in Iowa City, Ms. Warren said she was simply noting the proliferation of inquiries into the president… [emphasis added]

Here’s a video clip from TIME:

When they made Donald Trump their Fuhrer, the Republican Reich did the most devious thing they have ever done.  Trump is do thoroughly deplorable in so many ways that he provides them public deniability every time he acts out their hated, commits their crimes, enacts their policies, appoints the evil judges and Injustices they want, and robs 99% of Americans to give welfare payments to their billionaires.  They can say, it was Trump, not us.  Liz knows better.  I know better.  You know better.  But the vast majority of the American public does not know better.  They are likely to believe those lies. They just aren’t politically sophisticated enough to do the Limbo when confronted with a pay toilet. Winking smile

Seriously, as much as I agree with those screaming supporters that the thought of Putin’s Puppet in an orange jump suit borders on the divine, I’d rather we run against him than a liar that claims to have opposed him, while we are focusing on what we are doing.

From Washington PostThe last government shutdown may have ended just a few weeks ago, but odds are escalating that another one is just around the corner. With negotiators skeptical that a deal can be struck before Tuesday, it looks as if another shutdown will begin Friday night. So Republicans are going back to scaremongering about violent immigrants.

President Trump set the tone early Sunday morning, tweeting [traitor delinked] that Democrats “want a cap on convicted violent felons to be held in detention!” Republicans on the Sunday talk shows echoed him: “How in the world after that speech does he sign a bill that would reduce the bed spaces available for violent offenders?” asked Sen. Lindsey O. Graham (R-S.C.) on Fox’s “Sunday Morning Futures,” referring to Trump’s State of the Union address. “We got some problems with the Democrats dealing with [Immigration and Customs Enforcement], that is detaining criminals that come into the U.S. and they want a cap on them, we don’t want a cap on that,” said Sen. Richard C. Shelby (R-Ala.) on “Fox News Sunday.”

“Protections for violent offenders” sure sounds like an odd stance for a political party to take. So it should be no surprise that it’s not accurate. Yes, Democrats want to cap the number of unauthorized immigrants that ICE can detain at any given time. But the proposed cap — 16,500 — matches the level of detentions inside the United States in recent years. By capping the number, Democrats want ICE to focus on violent illegal immigrants, not waste resources arresting a mother in San Diego in front of her family or holding parents separated from their children.

So the Democratic ask isn’t for protection for “violent offenders.” And it is also quite small. Besides, why wouldn’t Democrats ask for something? Republicans are asking for money for a border wall and in exchange they will not shut the government down … again. Voters gave Democrats the House last fall — it seems only reasonable that they would want something to show for it.

Assuming you have heard just the Republican lies, as I had before researching the issue, you now know how to counter them. RESIST!!

From Raw Story:

Europeans tend to see a lot of American ideals and behaviors as bizarre. In particular, they aren’t wild about our politics and our food (though they love our television and our movies). And when it comes to sex? Well, Europeans tend to view us as the land of the free, home of the batshit crazy. Below are some of the biggest sexual WTFs Europeans have about America….

3. Our fear of hugs.  Research has shown that non-sexual physical contact has a profound impact on people’s emotional and physical well-being. Despite this knowledge, and our hyper-sexualized tendencies, America is one of the most touch-phobic countries in the world. A global study on touch rated the United States among “the lowest touch countries studied.” In contrast, the high-touch countries include Spain, France, Italy, and Greece. Some researchers think our fear of platonic touching actually leads to violence, particularly in young males. In one study, American adolescents were shown to touch each other far less and be more aggressive toward their peers compared with French adolescents.

While there are many reasons why Europe has a much lower violent crime rate than the U.S, could a lack of healthy physical connection add to this trend? In 2012, research conducted by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime found that the U.S. had a “homicide rate of 4.8 per 100,000 people compared to only 0.3 per 100,000 in Iceland, 0.7 per 100,000 in Sweden, 0.8 per 100,000 in Denmark and Spain, 0.9 per 100,000 in Italy, Austria and the Netherlands, 1.0 per 100,000 in France, and 1.2 per 100,000 in Portugal and the Republic of Ireland.”’
