On Thursday I published The Return of a Giant about Bill Moyers’ return to television with a new show, Moyers and Company.  On Saturday, he aired the first installation of that show: Winner Take All Politics.  It’s a long clip, taking almost an hour to watch, but if you missed this on Saturday, it’s well worth the time.

In its premiere episode, Moyers & Company dives into one of the most important and controversial issues of our time: How Washington and Big Business colluded to make the super-rich richer and turn their backs on the rest of us…

Moyers & Company 101: On Winner Take All Politics from BillMoyers.com on Vimeo.

One line in the video stood out to me so much that I have every intent of stealing it. 😉

Yesterday I fell asleep in the Church of the Ellipsoid Orb.  I meditated upon Ravens and Texans, but went out, while meditating upon Giants and Packers.  Congrats to the conference finalists: the Ravens, the Patriots, the Giants and the Fortyniners.  I’m current with replies.  Today I have errands to run.

Short Takes:

From YouTube: Ann Coulter gets OWNED by Bill Maher

I still love watching the Coultergeist put her foot in it.

From Truth-out: Rep. Ron Paul and other right-wingers have lured many average Americans into their camp by creating a false narrative about America’s Founding, claiming that the drafters of the Constitution wanted a weak central government. But that’s not the real history, Robert Parry writes.

Click through for an excellent article that destroys the arguments of Tenther crackpots like Paul.

From Raw Story: Fox News commentator Brit Hume argued on Sunday that it was not “despicable” for Marines to urinate on dead Taliban soldiers.

Why am I not surprised that the Republican Ministry of Propaganda has taken that position.

From Me: Huntsman has dropped out and has thrown his support to Multiple Mitt.

Yesterday I started working early to get my research done and as much written as possible in the morning, to free me for deep spiritual meditation on the holy Ellipsoid Orb for the rest of the day, with emphasis on the Denver/New England meeting in the evening.    The game was disappointing, because the Patriots outclassed the Bronco in every area.  They clearly deserved to win.  I can’t complain.  The Broncos made it to the conference semi-finals in what they always intended to be a rebuilding year with a brand new head coach and a brand new rookie Quarterback.  They outperformed expectations.  I’m current with replies.  WE are getting our first sow showers of the winter.  Tomorrow is another high holy day in the Church of the Ellipsoid Orb.

Final Religious Agony:

Short Takes:

From Crooks and Liars: An ongoing John Doe investigation into possible illegal activity by aides to Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) expanded when Walker’s spokesperson, Cullen Werwie, was given prosecutorial immunity. Speculation as to the reasons for the immunity, which authorities haven’t revealed, don’t signal good news for Walker.

Werwie was Walker’s travelling press aide, giving him close access to Walkers day to day activities and communications.  It does not look good for Fartfuhrer Walker.

From USA Today: Geothermal energy developers plan to pump 24 million gallons of water into the side of a dormant volcano in Central Oregon this summer to demonstrate new technology they hope will give a boost to a green energy sector that has yet to live up to its promise.

They hope the water comes back to the surface fast enough and hot enough to create cheap, clean electricity that isn’t dependent on sunny skies or stiff breezes — without shaking the earth and rattling the nerves of nearby residents.

Once again, Oregon leads the way in environmentally sane practices.

From Common Dreams: Europe has been plunged into a fresh crisis after France was stripped of its coveted AAA credit rating in a mass downgrade of nine eurozone countries by the ratings agency Standard & Poor’s.

S&P said austerity was driving Europe even deeper into financial crisis as it also cut Austria’s triple-A rating, and relegated Portugal and Cyprus to junk status.

Now that Europe has demonstrated the failure of austerity, Republicans will be all the more anxious to institute it here.

Yesterday I got some housework done and visited with some friends from a church ministry, who used to be Republicans, before meeting me a few months back.  I’m current with replies.  Today is a high holy day in the Church of the Ellipsoid Orb, and I will be meditating on Broncos and Patriots, while hoping for another miracle.

From MoveOn: How Much Money Can One President Spend?

14debt-full

A picture is worth a thousand words.

From The Guardian: Four US marines identified by the military as the soldiers filmed urinating on corpses in Afghanistan are likely to face a court martial after an American military commander said such actions are a "grave breach" of the laws of war.

I think they should throw the book at these individuals, while keeping in mind that seemingly endless participation in a dead-end war can have profound psychological effects.

From Raw Story: “He wears a sweater vest everywhere, which is proof that he does not have one gay friend,” Maher noted. “This guy thinks about gay sex more than any gay man in America. There’s a guy down in West Hollywood working at Dorothy’s and Dildos who does not think about gay sex as much as Rick Santorum.”

“Also, [he] wants to bomb Iran,” the comedian continued. “And I think people who are sexually frustrated want to bomb other countries.

LOL @ Bill Maher!! 😀

From Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: The committee to recall Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald announced Friday it has the signatures to force an election.

Lori Compas, the recall committee’s chairwoman, said in a news conference the group had gathered more than the 16,742 signatures needed, but declined to say how many. She said volunteers would continue to gather signatures to recall the Juneau Republican through Saturday. That’s to provide a cushion because Fitzgerald will be able to knock some signatures off the petitions if he can show they belong to people who don’t live in the district or aren’t eligible to vote.

The petitions will be turned in Tuesday, along with those to recall Gov. Scott Walker, Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch and three other Republican senators.

Great news! For those not familiar, Fitzgerald is the “Fitz” in the Fascist Corporate Plutocracy of Fitzwalkerstan, formerly Wisconsin.

Yesterday I slept late.  I’m not surprised after covering New Hampshire and the Bonamici debate on the same day.  I spent some time organizing volunteer work, and I’ll be spending three days a month in the prison instead of two this year.  I’m current with replies.  I still have that paperwork to do today

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today it took me 4:45 (average 5:12).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From TPM: Pat Buchanan’s explanation for his problems at MSNBC is exactly what you might expect: “Militant gay rights groups” and “people of color, Van Jones” are responsible.

Bull! Buchanan is responsible, because he went on a ite supremacist radio show and spewed his racist filth to promote his book.

From AP/Google: It seemed a clockwork killing: Motorcycle riders flashed by and attached a magnetic bomb onto a car carrying a nuclear scientist working at Iran’s main uranium enrichment facility. By the time the blast tore apart the silver Peugeot, the bike was blocks away, weaving through Tehran traffic after what Iran calls the latest strike in an escalating covert war.

The attack — which instantly killed the scientist and fatally wounded his driver on Wednesday — was at least the fourth targeted hit against a member of Iran’s nuclear brain trust in two years. Tehran quickly blamed Israeli-linked agents backed by the U.S. and Britain.

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton denied any U.S. role in the slaying, and the Obama administration condemned the attack. However, provocative hints from Jerusalem reinforced the perception of an organized and clandestine campaign to set back Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

This has all the earmarks of act of Israeli terrorism, but I have no doubt that there will be people blaming Obama.

From Think Progress: Five senators and 39 representatives received a perfect 100 percent score [Koch delinked] from the Koch brothers’ Astroturf group Americans For Prosperity for the first half of the 112th Congress. AFP judged Congress on their votes to protect the Koch brothers’ right-wing petrochemical empire [Koch delinked] on such issues as the repeal of President Obama’s new health care law, preempting EPA’s authority to regulate greenhouse gases, Chairman Paul Ryan’s budget to end Medicare, ending ethanol subsidies, several Congressional Review Act resolutions of disapproval to overturn new regulations and the fiscal year 2012 appropriations bills.

Yesterday I rested as much as I could to be fresh for the debate.  I’m current with replies.  My paperwork pile still awaits and is growing.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today it took me 3:27 (average 4:51).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From Reuters: An Indiana state House committee advanced Republican backed right-to-work legislation to the full House in a 15 minute meeting on Tuesday, one day after Democrats ended a boycott that had blocked its path.

The panel sent the measure to the full Indiana state House of Representatives on an 8-5 vote along party lines over loud objections from opponents, who had asked for more testimony on the proposal they see as an assault on unions.

If the right-to-work proposal is approved, Indiana would be the first state in the industrial heartland of the United States to adopt such a law. It is in force in 22 other states, mostly in the South and West.

Right-to-work is a misnomer for right-to-underpay.  Republicans changed the rules to make Democrats pay stiff fines, if they reinstitute their quorum boycott for the floor vote.

From MoveOn: There’s A New Party Running in 2012

Now that’s a third party that just might work. 😉

From The Daily Beast: Santorum painted a dark picture of the new bureau. The CFPB is “a pretty scary thing,” he said. It can determine “what loans you’re going to be able to qualify for, who you can do business with.”

What a load of Santorum!  The CFPB forces Banksters and others to tell the truth about their financial products and can forbid predatory practices, such as excessive fees.  In no way does it limit consumers’ choices of lenders or loans.

Yesterday I slept late and took a long nap, so I did not get started on planned tasks.  That’s OK, I obviously needed the rest, and I got my research done.  I’m current on replies.  Today I still have that paperwork to do.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today it took me 4:29 (average 6:21).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From The Guardian: Barack Obama has taken a big step towards preserving one of the world’s natural wonders, banning uranium mining on 1m acres of land around the Grand Canyon.

The move, announced by the interior secretary, Ken Salazar, at a film screening in Washington, bans new mining claims around the canyon for the next 20 years. The area is rich in uranium deposits.

I’ve been to the canyon enough times that I’m glad to see that unique vista is being protected, despite Republican attempts to despoil it.  Kudos to Obama.

From Crooks and Liars: How Georgia Republicans Teach Math

This represents Republican wishful thinking at it’s worst.

From Washington Post: Despite his absence from early primary coverage, Current TV’s Keith Olbermann will soon be part of the act.

In a tweet posted Sunday, the volatile anchor of the “Countdown” show said he would be “running the election coverage of Current” after Tuesday’s New Hampshire primary. On Monday, a Current representative confirmed Olbermann would host future coverage.

I’m glad to see this.  Current’s election coverage has been sub-par without their best at the helm.

Yesterday was a holy day in the Church of the Ellipsoid Orb.  I was quite happy with the Bronco’s performance, scoring 29 points against the league’s #1 defense, and it was one hell of a good game, ending with a touchdown pass on the first play from scrimmage in OT.  I’m current with replies.  Today I have a ton of paperwork to do.

Short Takes:

From MoveOn: The Secret That Mitt Romney Doesn’t Want You To Know

Multiple Mitt has created lots of jobs… in China.

From USA Today: Defense Secretary Leon Panetta says Iran is laying the groundwork for making nuclear weapons someday, but is not yet building a bomb and called for continued diplomatic and economic pressure to persuade Tehran not to take that step.

As he has previously, Panetta cautioned against a unilateral strike by Israel against Iran’s nuclear facilities, saying the action could trigger Iranian retaliation against U.S. forces in the region.

In stark contrast, the Republican war drums beat on.

From Think Progress: During Sunday morning’s Meet the Press debate, GOP front-runner Mitt Romney suggested that people who need a job to pay to their mortgage shouldn’t run for office.

Only the super rich are fit to govern in Mitt’s view.  How Republican!
