Yesterday my plans blew up and my day was as pleasant as a Teabagger committing Teabuggery. After posting my articles, I felt ill. I thought it was severe constipation, so I used a Fleet, took some Dulcoclax, and cancelled my trip to the prison. By bedtime I was doubled over in pain, so I went to the emergency room. I was right about the constipation, but found out that I am also passing a kidney stone (first ever, and one too many). The stone is now mostly passed, and I’m still in pain, but nothing like before. I’m exhausted, but still have a lot to do getting meds and scheduling doctors, so I will have nothing to post today. Hopefully, I’ll be back tomorrow.
Yesterday I ran my errands and tried to rest, but the heat was excessive. I have this and one other article, but will be unable to distribute links before leaving for volunteer work in prison. I need to try to get some sleep, before the heat of the day. I shall catch up on comments when I can. Tomorrow is a recovery day, and I’ll probably be too tired to do much.

From Daily Kos: The first big enforcement action by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, conceived of and originally led by Elizabeth Warren, is netting $210 million from Capital One Financial Corp. for deceptive marketing of credit card “add-on” products. The settlement will "provide between $140 million and $150 million in restitution to 2 million customers." The remaining $60 million is penalties, $25 million to the CFPB and $35 million and pay an additional $60 million in penalties—$25 million to the CFPB and $35 million to Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, the primary regulator of banks.
Kudos to the CFPB. This is what Banksters and Republicans feared.
Yesterday I did manage to post articles and distribute the links before leaving for prison for the CoDA group there with ten prisoners. My guys, as always, were magnificent, and I cannot praise them enough for their honesty, insight, and commitment. I talked about how we need to take of ourselves and how supportive you are that I am blogging less to be there for them, without running myself into the ground. The blog and that group have one thing in common. There is a Critter in both places. Critter there says HI to Critter here. When I returned home at around 9:30 PM, my apartment had been closed up through the heat of the day and I was met by 98°. ARGH! It took long enough to cool it down that I slept poorly. I have one other article today, but I will be unable to distribute links. I have to go out and run errands before it gets too hot, and I also need to sleep. I an not current with replies, but I will catch up when I can. Tomorrow I’ll be back in prison for a meeting with around 100 guys.

It felt very good to wake up this morning without being in a sweat. If the cool weather keeps up another couple days, the building will have bled off all the reserve heat. The Colorado shooting has dominated the news and it’s still too soon for me to have much to day about it, and although Republican attempts to blame Obama and the Democratic Party are beneath contempt, I shall consider them not worthy of response for now. From Capitol Column: Former Republican President George W. Bush will not attend the upcoming Republican National Convention in Tampa, Florida, according to a statement released Friday.
The Associated Press reports that a spokesman for Mr. Bush, Freddy Ford, says the former president has “respectfully declined” the Republican party’s invitation to the national convention where presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney is expected to accept the party’s nomination.
I bet he got that invitation on the condition that he decline, to spare him the embarrassment of not being invited at all.

From USA Today: President Obama is cutting a campaign trip in Florida short in the aftermath of a shooting spree at a Colorado movie theater that has left at least 12 dead and wounded dozens of others.
"President Obama will address the tragedy in Aurora, Colorado in remarks in Ft. Myers, Florida this morning," the Obama campaign said in a statement. "Then he will return to the White House. In light of the tragedy in Colorado, the event in Winter Park, Florida will be cancelled."
I have been in that theatre when I lived there. Thoughts and prayers for the victims and their families, please. As a culture we need to rid ourselves of the prime time TV notion that heroes should solve problems with violence, especially gun violence.
From CBS: Senate Republicans on Thursday killed a measure backed by President Barack Obama that would encourage companies to bring overseas jobs back to the United States.
The measure being pressed by Obama’s Democratic allies is rich with political symbolism, but whether it would have had much practical impact on decisions by companies to "outsource" jobs to lower-wage countries is open to question.
More proof of Republican economic sabotage. No Democrats goose-stepped with the Republican Party.
