Yesterday I must still have been pooped, because after blogging, I slept through most of the day again.  It’s probably a good thing, because the last week of this month will be just like the last week of last month.  I’m current with replies.  Tomorrow is a holy day in the Church of the Ellipsoid Orb.

From NY Times: Early voting in Ohio the weekend before the election was restored for all voters on Friday by the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, giving President Obama’s campaign another victory in its legal battles with Republicans over voting issues.

The state’s Republican-led administration had imposed a measure that allowed voting that weekend only for members of the military and people living overseas, arguing that the state had to reduce the strain on the election system from statewide early balloting.

Democrats and Mr. Obama’s campaign had cried foul, arguing that the measure unfairly disenfranchised minorities and others who often wait until the last weekend. Those voters are considered likelier to back the Democratic candidates.

From The New Yorker: Taking a victory lap after their candidate’s win in the first Presidential debate Wednesday night, Romney campaign insiders today attributed his success to his strategic use of relentless lying.

“We worked for hours on this during the practice debates,” said the campaign manager Matt Rhoades. “We were, like, ‘Mitt, if you find yourself on the verge of saying something true, bite your tongue.’ ”

Sadly, what makes this humorous is its perfect intersection with reality.

He’s spot-on and the exact opposite of the Republican Party.

From CBS: A House committee says a State Department officer told panel members there were 13 threats made against the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya during the six months before the Sept. 11 attack on the facility.

What the committee did not say is that there are hundreds of threats against US Embassies and Consulates around the world every day, so insulations that these should have been taken more seriously then the rest are bogus.

From LA Times: New polling continues to show a potential shift toward Democrats in the battle to control the Senate, while analysts say the race for the House majority maintains a tilt toward Republicans.

Democratic candidates are ahead in the battleground states of Ohio, Virginia, Florida and Wisconsin, states that have been key Republican targets as they try to wrest majority Senate control.

After last night we need some good news!

From Seattle Times: A judge postponed Pennsylvania’s controversial voter identification requirement on Tuesday, ordering the state not to enforce it in this year’s presidential election but allowing it to go into full effect next year.

That’s a huge win for the good guys. If Republicans want to steal PA they’ll have to find another way.

From Washington Post: Voters in three critical swing states broadly oppose the far-reaching changes to Medicare ­associated with the Republican presidential ticket and, by big margins, prefer President Obama to handle the issue, according to new state polls by The Washington Post and the Kaiser Family Foundation.

For seniors in Florida, Ohio and Virginia, Medicare rivals the economy as a top voting issue. And by majorities topping 70 percent, seniors say they prefer to keep Medicare as a program with guaranteed benefits, rather than moving to a system in which the government gives recipients fixed payments to buy coverage from private insurers or traditional Medicare, as Romney advocates.

As always the interests of the Republican Party and the interests of the vast majority of Americans are polar opposites.

From Florida Times-Union: In audio picked up by an answering machine, a volunteer for the Republican Party of Clay County can be heard calling President Barack Obama “a Muslim” and saying he wants to “get rid of your Medicare” while reaching out to voters in support of Mitt Romney’s campaign.

The call was made as part of a statewide phone bank for Romney’s campaign being conducted by the Clay County GOP. The volunteer, who was not identified, did not hang up before moving onto her next call.

Her pitch to the next person was picked up on the first person’s answering machine.
