Today’s high will be only 75° to 80°, but since the sun just hit the brickwork, I’ll have to button up with the AC in an hour or two.  It’s also very busy day here at the CatBox.  Store to Door is delivering a big load of groceries for me to put away.  It’s Monthly Report Day, and WWW Wendy will get here late this afternoon to destink the TomCat.  I hope you all have a cooler, less stinky day.

Short Takes:

From YouTube (Vox Channel): This anti-sex trafficking law could end internet freedom

No decent people want to support sex-trafficking, but Republican pseudo-Christians, the opposite of Christians, have used sex trafficking as smokescreen to attack legitimate sex workers. Democrats went along on the correct belief that, if they didn’t, they would be painted in the media as supporting underage sex slavery. This law is wrong. RESIST!!

From YouTube (Oregonian Channel): Portland Burgerville workers approve federally recognized union

Kudos to the unionizing workers! Oregon leads the way! RESIST!!

From NY Times: Scott Pruitt, the head of the Environmental Protection Agency, allowed a lobbyist friend to play an unusually influential role in setting his agenda during a visit in December to Morocco, according to internal communications related to the scheduling of meetings reviewed by The New York Times.

Just months after helping to organize the trip, the lobbyist, Richard Smotkin, was hired by the government of Morocco as a $40,000-a-month foreign agent, according to filings with the Department of Justice. Mr. Smotkin participated in several meetings with Mr. Pruitt in Morocco, including with representatives from some industries, according to participants on the trip….

…Members of Congress had questioned whether there was a legitimate government reason for Mr. Pruitt to travel to Morocco and also questioned the cost of the trip. Moreover, the swiftness with which Mr. Smotkin then received the Morocco contract raises questions about whether the trip helped Mr. Smotkin secure the deal.

This is corruption as usual, when Republicans are in power. RESIST!!

Happy May day from the CatBox.  It’s been a very busy day here.  I installed a new poll.  I made the graphics and collected all the data I’ll need for tomorrow’s report.  I prepared my grocery order and ordered groceries from store to door.  I spent a half hour in chat with my HSP.  Animae’s ISP is blocking my email replies to her.  Animae, if you read this tell them I’m not a damn spammer.  They are ignoring email from me asking to be taken off their abuse list.  ARGH!

From YouTube (MSNBC Channel): NY Times Publishes Robert Mueller’s Questions For President Donald Trump

I strongly suspect that Mueller already knows the answers to virtually all the questions. He has almost finished with everyone else and is now zeroing in on his main target. For the list of questions, click here. RESIST!!

From YouTube (Media Matters Channel): Michelle Malkin on politics and comedy, then and now

Barf Bag Alert!!

In the first segment, Malkin was reacting to displeasure on the left at GW Bush, the second worst Resident in history, pretending to look for Osama bin Laden under the furniture, treating his own failure, as if it was no big deal. In the second segment Malkin demonstrated Republican hypocrisy. RESIST!!

From Daily Kos: Many may not know this (most people don’t), but Patrick Conroy, the Chaplain of the House recently forced out by Representative and Ayn Rand devotee Paul Ryan for being insufficiently grateful for the Republican tax cuts, was a Catholic, and as such, unmarried and without children.

Some of the conservatives who now steer the Republican Party’s policies are going to make damned sure that never happens again:

Rep. Mark Walker (R-N.C.), one of the leaders of the committee searching for a replacement for the ousted House chaplain, said the next spiritual leader of the House should be someone with a family who can better relate to and counsel lawmakers with spouses and children.

Walker is Chairman of something called the “Republican Study Committee” and co-chair of something called the “Prayer Caucus” in the Republican-dominated House of Representatives.

A Rabbi can have a family, but I bet a dollar they wouldn’t accept a chaplain that says, "Oy gevalt", either. RESIST!!

From The New Yorker: The National Rifle Association’s decision to ban guns during Mike Pence’s speech at its annual meeting in Dallas this week “leaves him totally vulnerable to a bear attack,” the Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos, warned on Monday.

Speaking to reporters at the Education Department, DeVos said that she was “deeply concerned” that the N.R.A. was underestimating the danger posed to Pence by “the savagery of one rogue bear.”

“All it would take is one angry bear to ruin what otherwise promises to be a really nice gun event,” she said.

Dang Andy! Does the best three word response to the Pence speech begin with, "Ready… Aim…" Winking smile  RESIST!!

Yesterday WWWendy rad out to Freddy’s and picked me up a $110 Emerson microwave.  It will get me by, until I know where I’m going to be living, and then I can decide if I need something better.  Today, I’m back in the saddle and it’s comfortably seasonal here in the CatBox.  Bye April!

This was released on 8/16 and is the first in the channel. It was a great start. RESIST!!

From Share Blue: Panicked about a looming midterm lashing, the GOP’s do-nothing Congress suddenly wants to get something done — literally anything to show voters there’s a reason they should be sent back to Washington, D.C., in November.

“We need some more wins,” Republican Study Committee Chairman Mark Walker told Axios. “We can’t just talk about Neil Gorsuch and tax cuts from here to November.”

The scramble comes after reports have already noted Republicans look like they’ve given up defending the House, and have desperately shifted time and resources toward hanging on to the Senate.

Of course, backslapping Republicans last December thought they had mapped out their re-election strategy by passing a tax giveaway bill to billionaires and corporations. But it turns out there are a lot of non-billionaires who vote, and they don’t think much of the Republican legislation.

We need to keep rubbing Republicans’ noses in two things: everything they have done and everything they haven’t done. RESIST!!

From TPM: In a heated appearance on CNN Monday morning, American Conservative Union chairman Matt Schlapp voiced harsh criticism for comedian Michelle Wolf after her monologue at the White House Correspondents Dinner Saturday, concluding that it is not her nor any journalist’s place to call out the President for lying.

“Just present the facts and let the American people if they think someone’s lying,” Schlapp said to CNN’s Alisyn Camerota. “Journalists shouldn’t be the one to say the President or his spokesperson is lying. What that does to 50 percent of the country is make them feel they are not credible to listen to.”

This Republican asshole walked out on Michelle Wolfe. Journalists have a responsibility to the truth. That is their ONLY job! RESIST!!

From YouTube (MSNBC Channel): Is Arizona Special Election The GOP’s Canary In The Coal Mine?

I too think we have a blue wave coming, unless idiots think it’s OK to vote third party, because Democrats will win anyway, like they did in 2016. RESIST!!

From Daily Kos: A Fox News poll [Faux Noise delinked] released this week found that most Americans believe the Russia probe will yield impeachable offenses and a solid two-thirds of the public think completing the probe is important to some extent. The Hill writes:

Fifty-six [percent] of respondents in the poll said they believed Mueller’s probe will find that Trump committed the offenses. And 67 percent say they believe it’s at least somewhat important that Mueller’s investigation continues.

However, 71 percent said they think that Trump will fire Mueller before the probe is over. […]

Sixty-four percent of respondents in the poll overall also said they believe Mueller is treating the White House fairly.

I’m amazed that Faux Noise, the Republican Reichsministry of Propaganda, didn’t cover this up. RESIST!!

From NY Times: The Trump administration has drafted a new set of regulations on planet-warming emissions from cars and light trucks that would dramatically weaken Obama-era standards. The proposal, if implemented, would also set up a legal clash between the federal government and California by challenging the state’s authority to set its own, stricter, air pollution rules.

Details of the proposal, which is being jointly drafted by the Environmental Protection Agency and the Transportation Department and is expected to be sent to the White House for approval in coming days, were described to The New York Times by a federal official who had seen them but was not authorized to discuss the matter.

The proposal follows an announcement this month by the E.P.A. administrator, Scott Pruitt, that the Trump administration intended to weaken the stringent vehicle fuel economy standards set by the Obama administration that aimed to roughly double the average fuel economy of new cars, S.U.V.s and light trucks by 2025.

With Trump’s appointed criminals, the only thing worse than what they steal from taxpayers is that they institute Republican policies. RESIST!!

This is today’s only article.  Late yesterday afternoon a drainage plug on my AC vibrated loose, and I got up for supper to find my floor flooded.  It’s easy enough to fix, except that I cannot get access to it in my chair.  I had to turn off the AC.  I tried to get help from staff here, but they answered neither the desk phone or the cell phone for over an hour.  So I called WWWendy.  It took her around an hour to get here.  In the interim, my superheated wall had radiated the inside temperature rose to over 100°.  She mopped up the water and put the plug back in.  She’s such a sweetheart that I had to fight her to accept $20 extra for her extra work.  It took the AC until later last night before the room was comfortable again, so I’m just too wrung out for more that this article.  I expect to be back in the saddle tomorrow.

Even Faux Noise was trying to escape the implosion! RESIST!!

From Huffington Post: House Chaplain Patrick Conroy was suddenly forced out of his job last week by Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), and while it’s not clear why, Democratic lawmakers and Hill sources say it was driven by Ryan’s distaste for one of Conroy’s prayers about the GOP’s tax bill.

As first reported by The Hill, Conroy was clear in his resignation announcement that it wasn’t his choice to go. It was Ryan’s.

Click through to read the prayer. It appears that the problem Lyin’ Ryan had with the Chaplain is that he is a Christian, not a Republican. The two are opposites. RESIST!!

From NY Times: Thousands of teachers in Arizona and Colorado walked out of their classrooms on Thursday to demand more funding for public schools, the latest surge of a teacher protest movement that has already swept through three states and is spreading quickly to others.

Hundreds of public schools were shut down in Arizona because of the walkouts, which turned the streets of Downtown Phoenix into seas of crimson as educators and their supporters marched to the State Capitol wearing red T-shirts and chanting “Red for Ed,” as the movement is known here.

Widespread teacher protests have in recent months upended daily routines in the conservative-leaning states West Virginia, Oklahoma and Kentucky. But the sight of public workers protesting en masse in the Arizona capital, one of the largest Republican strongholds in the country, and demanding tax increases for more school funding, spoke to the enduring strength of the movement and signaled shifts in political winds ahead of this year’s midterm elections.

Kudos to the teachers. RESIST!!

From YouTube (BuffFeed Channel): Weird Laws From All 50 US States

OOPS! Once I violated the Oregon law!  RESIST!!

From NY Times: He was once reported to the police in Illinois for stashing an AR-15 in the trunk of his car and then diving into a public pool wearing a women’s pink housecoat. There was the time he complained to an officer that the singer Taylor Swift had demanded a rendezvous. And then last July he was grabbed by the Secret Service when he tried to force his way on to the White House grounds.

Travis Reinking, 29, was on the radar of law enforcement well before he was taken into custody on Monday and accused of barging into a Nashville Waffle House over the weekend and opening fire, killing four and injuring four more.

Yet even after the Illinois police revoked his firearms license and ordered that his guns be transferred to his father, Mr. Reinking got them back, including the AR-15 used in the Tennessee shooting, the police said. His case raises questions over how such a troubled individual could have legally carried weapons for so long and could have continued to carry them even after he was ordered to give them up.

“We have a man who has exhibited significant instability,” acknowledged Don Aaron, a spokesman for the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.

The police say that Mr. Reinking’s father, Jeffrey, the owner of a crane business near the town of Morton, Ill., returned the guns to his son, enabling Travis Reinking to carry out the killings over the weekend.

Jeffrey Reinking’s act of returning the guns to his son is “potentially a violation of federal law,” Marcus Watson, a special agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, said at a news conference.

I think Jeffrey belongs in a cell, but I’d also like to know what political organizations he supports, as I bet he’s the source of his son’s ideas. RESIST!!

From Alternet: Donald Trump is a white supremacist, which is why it’s no coincidence that that language he uses to demonize people of color—Mexican immigrants, in particular—is the same language of self-avowed white supremacists and neo-Nazis. Columnist Dana Milbank:

“There is a Revolution going on in California. Soooo many Sanctuary areas want OUT of this ridiculous, crime infested & breeding concept,” the president tweeted [Tweeting twit delinked] on Tuesday.

What could he mean? Immigrants are breeding thoroughbred horses? Prize-winning cattle?

Or perhaps Trump was using “breeding” in the sense now popular among white supremacists?

Is there any question about what the Fuhrer means? Of course it’s racist. He’s a Republican! RESIST!!
