This is today’s only article.  Late yesterday afternoon a drainage plug on my AC vibrated loose, and I got up for supper to find my floor flooded.  It’s easy enough to fix, except that I cannot get access to it in my chair.  I had to turn off the AC.  I tried to get help from staff here, but they answered neither the desk phone or the cell phone for over an hour.  So I called WWWendy.  It took her around an hour to get here.  In the interim, my superheated wall had radiated the inside temperature rose to over 100°.  She mopped up the water and put the plug back in.  She’s such a sweetheart that I had to fight her to accept $20 extra for her extra work.  It took the AC until later last night before the room was comfortable again, so I’m just too wrung out for more that this article.  I expect to be back in the saddle tomorrow.

Even Faux Noise was trying to escape the implosion! RESIST!!

From Huffington Post: House Chaplain Patrick Conroy was suddenly forced out of his job last week by Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), and while it’s not clear why, Democratic lawmakers and Hill sources say it was driven by Ryan’s distaste for one of Conroy’s prayers about the GOP’s tax bill.

As first reported by The Hill, Conroy was clear in his resignation announcement that it wasn’t his choice to go. It was Ryan’s.

Click through to read the prayer. It appears that the problem Lyin’ Ryan had with the Chaplain is that he is a Christian, not a Republican. The two are opposites. RESIST!!

From NY Times: Thousands of teachers in Arizona and Colorado walked out of their classrooms on Thursday to demand more funding for public schools, the latest surge of a teacher protest movement that has already swept through three states and is spreading quickly to others.

Hundreds of public schools were shut down in Arizona because of the walkouts, which turned the streets of Downtown Phoenix into seas of crimson as educators and their supporters marched to the State Capitol wearing red T-shirts and chanting “Red for Ed,” as the movement is known here.

Widespread teacher protests have in recent months upended daily routines in the conservative-leaning states West Virginia, Oklahoma and Kentucky. But the sight of public workers protesting en masse in the Arizona capital, one of the largest Republican strongholds in the country, and demanding tax increases for more school funding, spoke to the enduring strength of the movement and signaled shifts in political winds ahead of this year’s midterm elections.

Kudos to the teachers. RESIST!!

  1. Rachel Maddow: Drumpf was completely out of control and there was obviously no one near to keep him from destroying his own legal defense (he probably locks his bathroom door). Even the Faux News hosts were obviously embarrassed by the way he was behaving. We have a saying that someone has thrown in his own windows when he’s left himself open for destruction and it’s no ones fault but his own. You could say that Drumpf now has broken all the windows in his Drumpf tower and there’s no glazier in sight.

NYT: Kudos to all thoe teachers standing firm and walking out for something they really believe in despite the pressure put on them. ??

Cartoon: Weird longing for someone so much detested in his day, isn’t it.

Sorry to hear not only the temperatures are ganging up on you, but the equipment to battle them is joining in, TomCat. Thank goodness you have WWWendy to help you when the going gets really tough. Thank her for me.

  2. MSNBC: Encouraging to see news of the N/S Korean relationship. We’ll have to see how it progresses. Firing the Chaplain? Because he spoke up?? wth?? I don’t normally watch faux news, but, boy!! what a mind blowing interview by dt. WOW!! I mean WOW!!!

HP: What a low blow by lyin’ Ryan to even do this. How tactless can you get??

NYT: I stand each and every one of those teachers/admin/support staff who walk out. It’s been long overdue. I hope TX joins in walking out also…..

Cartoon: Yea, he’s here in TX. Pretty soon, you can say NY too.

How wonderful WWWendy is!! in helping you with what happened!! Thank God to her for being there. Hope that all gets back to normal. Get your rest, take very good care, and Thanks, Tom. Take CARE!!

  3. 100 DEGREES?!? YIKES! That’s in the dangerous zone.  Hope you are fully recuperated.

You noticed there was no “Friday Fun” today – and sadly I have another excuse.

My brother fell on his butt again and went to the ER the other night.  Fortunately they didn’t need to admit him.

Unfortunately while doing a CT scan of his pelvis they noticed a mass and said he should get (another) colonoscopy and pancreatic scan.

Then his PCP called and said that the Hemoccult Test (blood in the stool) came back positive.

He just had a colonoscopy ~ 1 year ago, but we’re working to get another one done ASAP.

And his hematologist-oncologist had just ordered a pancreatic MRI that was done Monday.  But he doesn’t know why she ordered it.  Unfortunately she’s out of town this week so we’ll have to wait until Monday to get the results.

Fortunately his son (my nephew) was already scheduled to fly out tomorrow for a few days to help get things a little better situated for him.

Poor guy just cannot catch a break.

    • That was the first thing I noticed.  More prayers coming, and I have enlisted a friend to pray for both of you.  I’ve said it before, but please don’t forget to care for yourself

    • It seems that when it rains, it pours!  I lit a candle for both you and your brother at church last Sunday and will again this Sunday.  My kids and I will continue our prayers (yes, they actually are quiet when I am praying and sit next to me), and there will be a whole congregation praying for you both.  Please look after yourself too.  Blessings . . .

    • You poor brother, and poor family! When is he, and you all, getting the break he so much deserves. I’ll add my extra-strength positive thoughts to one of your bushel baskets, Nameless. With so many people chipping in, things will take a turn for the better soon.

    • Bushel Baskets of thoughts and prayers on the way!  Phat poor guy!! 13

  4. You couldn’t run the AC with the plug out and just collect the water in a bowl or towel until Wendy got there?

    • I think he said that he couldn’t reach the plug without help.  But that sounds like a great idea if this happens again, and if it can be rigged to he can reach it.  A ball chain sort of like the ones on ceiling fans?  I don’t know what it looks like, so I’m sort of groping in the dark (cleanly, though.)

      • My chair won’t fit through a 6 inch passage to plug it in or put a bowl or towel under it

It was already sitting in a puddle of water, so running it would have been dangerous.  Thanks for tying.  When that happens, I just need help! 03

        • Yeah, a 6″ passage is too small to get through … and too small for a bucket (which would have to live there all the time, there’s no way you could get it there on short notice, and I see why you said “bowl” instead of “bucket.”)  And, even if a chain or cord could be rigged to pull it out without damaging it, you would have to have a hook (on the wall?) outside that 6″ channel, and the chain or cord would have to be long enough to reach to the hook and stay hooked until unhooked on purpose.

email last night from “The Francis Project,” a group of young Catholics inspired by Pope Francis:
News broke today that Father Patrick Conroy, the Jesuit priest who serves as Chaplain for the House of Representatives, was fired by Speaker Paul Ryan because the Speaker was upset that Conroy invited a Muslim cleric to pray on the House floor and that Conroy offered a prayer that “tax reform be fair to all Americans.” In other words, Rachel may not know why. But I do. And now you do too.

Rachel – The first thing I heard about Korea was that Kim Jong Un WALKED ACROSS THE BORDER to speak with the other President. And I thought, “Who would ever have believe that Trump is not just crazy, but SO MUCH crazier than Kim would WALK across the border before he would meet with Trump? I mean, does he look like a person who does a lot of walking?”

HuffPo – See link to petition above.

    NYT – About GD time.

    Update on Father Conroy firing:
Christopher Hale of the Francis Project just called Paul Ryan Henry II (you know, the one who said, “Will no one rid me of this troublesome priest,” and his thugs then ran to the Cathedral and murdered Thomas Beckett.) No, it’s not a compliment. And the rest of the letter may be even better. Chris is NOT a happy camper.

  6. MSNBC — WOW!!!  If Drumpf is not involved as he claims, then why does the idiot keep involving himself?  Maybe he is trying to build a case of not guilty due to mental incapacity in all his other tribulations?  He has nuked his own defence, something Kim Jong-Un could not have done!

It was great to see the Faux talking heads squirm and finally make the decision to cut Drumpf off, although they should have done so earlier.  Is it any wonder why Drumpf is an attorney’s worst nightmare? . . . why attorneys like Dowd get up and walk away?

This a very interesting jam-packed session from Rachel.

Huffington Post — Lyin’ Ryan is completely corrupt and no Christian in any and all ways.  This is really low, even for a Republican. Perhaps since he has announced his retirement, he feels no restraint is necessary.  May all Republicans feel the sting of Ryan’s actions at the polls.

NY Times — Kudos to the teachers!  May many more join them and stand their ground for the future of the country!

Cartoon — Drumpf makes Baby Bush look like a choir boy!

Well, I am still having major problems with my computer . . . more correctly, with my ISP.  I can access PP but not Care2 nor most of the rest of the net.  I have no email which is provided by Telus which is also my ISP.  I can open AlterNet and I was able to open Huff Post and MSNBC in the OT but not the NYT.  I tried opening RobertReich.org but that was a no go.  What a pain in the ass!  I think I’ll have to go to the library tomorrow to check email and get some info so I can call my service provider.  Arrggghhhh!!!!!

I’m glad that WWWendy was able to get the AC back in service!  Hiopefully your sleep tonight will be better!

    • Sounds like some of your sites are blocked by your ISP’s fire wall or something, it having marked them as untrustworthy. I can never reach Care2 when we’re at the Schiphol airport, but have no problem in Dubai or Brisbane. Different firewalls. It could also be your own virus/mal-ware scanner. I had to tell McAffee to allow Care2 (and NYT if I remember correctly) when I got a new computer. Hope you can sort your problems out really soon.

    • Seems like I remember reading that Telus had a history of blocking pro-union websites.

    • This morning, I can’t get into AlterNet but I can still get Huff Post and obviously PP.  I don’t know how long that will last.  I will take my puter into Staples tomorrow after church to make sure everything works from there and ask them to check the McAfee setting just incase it is my anti virus.  I feel so cut off from literally everything!  How did I manage before computers?!  08

      • It sounds like an issue with Telus’ DNS server, the place where your computer finds the location of the page you enter or click.  You can change your DNS server.  The instructions are here.  29

        • Thanks.  I’ll check with Staples on this.  I tried to open your link but all I get is:

Can’t connect securely to this page
This might be because the site uses outdated or unsafe TLS security settings. If this keeps happening, try contacting the website’s owner.

I think I had this same message this morning when I tried to open AlterNet.  When I say I’m cut off, I really mean it.  You know the withdrawal is bad when I tell you I actually resorted to reading a newspaper . . . the old fashioned way!

  7. Thanks all.  Tired Hugs. 35

  8. I can sympathize about A/C problems – I live in Atlanta, and a few years ago the A/C went out right when the hottest time of year was starting. Fortunately, I know a reliable HVAC service company, and after managing for a few days (thankfully I have a couple fans, but Ragamuffin was not happy, being a long-hair!) they came and got the problem fixed.

I hope that the teacher protests continue to spread – not just geographically, but to other walks of life. Resist, Resist, Resist – and Persist!

  9. MSNBC: tDump continues to display the capacity of an entire village of idiots!
HP: Ryan just underlines the hypocrisy of the religious right.  “WTF, you are suggesting to god that we share?  What, are you some kind of Godless commie?”
NYT: Shift that wind, oh baby!  If this movement really gains traction, the GOPIGS may not be able to keep America as dumbed down as it is now.
‘Toon: W. was, is, an idiot, tDump is an idiot on steroids, after they ate/melted his brain!
