Pat followed Politics Plus and commented for quite some time on Care2, where she has been active for years, before she started commenting here at the site.  A few months later, she won her first Big Mouth Award for the 78,000th comment in May 2016. She became a daily regular and won her second award for the 85,000th comment in December 2016 and her third for the 93,000th comment in October 2017.  She won her fourth for 97,000 in March, 2018.  She won her fifth for 101,000 in August 2018 and her sixth in October This is her seventh award. She is a progressive activist, an authentic Christian, a proud veteran, and a Michael Moore Fan.  If you tell her to go to hell, she’s likely to answer, “I already live there.”  The poor girl is still a Texan. On the other hand, she loves her Houston Texans.  Her comments are still bright, witty and above all, compassionate.  She always greets WWWendy on shower day!  I don’t know what else I can say, but please add praise with more compliments.  She deserves it.

From Huffington Post: Fox News and host Tucker Carlson are losing more advertisers.

Long John Silver’s will no longer advertise on Fox News, as confirmed to Media Matters’ Angelo Carusone

Nestlé and HelloFresh, which have advertised on Carlson’s show in the past, told The Hollywood Reporter they were no longer running ads on the show. Nestlé said it had no plans to do so in the future.

On Friday, Stein Mart confirmed that it is no longer running ads on Carlson’s show.

A spokesperson for SoFi, a personal finance company that had recently been running ads with Carlson, told HuffPost that the company buys “programmatic advertising and [does] not purchase directly through the sponsorship of any shows.” Additionally, SoFi said it had “made sure our ads will no longer air during this program.”

Earlier this week, Carlson claimed on his show “Tucker Carlson Tonight” that there is no white supremacy problem in the United States, and that it’s a “hoax” proliferated by the media.

Wonderful! Our voices matter enough to punch the Republican Reichsministry of Propaganda, Faux Noise, right in the wallet! RESIST!!

From Daily Kos: When I spotted this tiny, dark booth, I surveilled it for a while, feigning to study the map of the fairgrounds for bearings on my phone. Minutes passed, and then a few more, and all the while this forlorn booth had no guests. Literally not a single one.

It wasn’t for lack of potential visitors. Friday was a perfect day for the popular fair – warm but not hot, and as comfortably cloudy as it was sometimes sunny. Ohio’s capital city of Columbus is centrally located – in the Heart of it All of the Heart of it All – which makes for only a few hours’ drive to its location from just about anywhere in this quite populous state. Understandably, the fair was crowded. Just about every booth got their fair (sic.) share of attention this day, but for that one – sparse, and sporting an overly tiny identifying sign – which seemed patently unable to buy a break…

…Now Ohio is a purple state, but even though the fair takes place in the big city (Columbus is Ohio’s largest), the fair is a rural-themed park which attracts more than its share of the red team. That pretty much holds true for both booth denizens as well as fairgoers, but the marketplace’s desire to make the sale puts a damper on risky political banter. That’s why I was surprised when I saw the undersized sign on the back of the lonely booth:

T R U M P
P E N C E
Make America Great Again

The two twenty-something booth caretakers were bored. Very bored.

FOMCROTFPIMPLMAO! RESIST!!

Farewell C2NN

0811C2

In November 2010, I joined a site called Care2 and, largely because of the fine people there, I started supporting Care2 News Network by cross posting all my articles there.  That was thousands of articles ago.  It’s a sad day, because this is the last day that C2NN will be online.  Tomorrow Care2 will be petitions only.  I thank the site administrators there for years of service, and I respect their decision, despite my disappointment over it.

I’d like my many friends there who used C2NN to stay politically active here at Politics Plus.  Our URL is http://www.politicsplus.org/blog  Here’s some info to help you participate here.

To read and comment on Politics Plus, you don’t have to join.  Just go and do.  When you want to read comments or comment on an article, just click the title of the article.  Read the comments.  There is a comment box at the bottom.  To comment fill in your name and email address (always use the same name and email address each time you visit).  If you have a website, you may fill in your URL.  Otherwise, leave it blank.  Make your comment.  Click the Submit button.  The first comment you ever make will be held for moderation as a defense against SPAM.  We will approve it as soon as possible. After that, as long as the name/email address you enter remain exactly the same, and as long as your comment contains three links or less, it will not be held for moderation. There is a bug in our comment editor that complicates making nested replies to individual replies to articles. To do so, scroll to the comment box at the bottom, and fill it out as though you were commenting to the article, but don’t click the Submit button. Instead, scroll up to the comment to which you want to reply. Click the Reply link under that comment. When a non-functioning comment box opens under that reply, click the Submit button below that box, and your reply will appear nested under that reply. If you need help with anything, just holler. Our staff (Lynn, SoINeedAName, Joanne, Lona, and I) are damn good at it.

Whether or not you follow us home.  Thanks for all your support and thanks for the memories.

Hugs!

From NBC News: President Donald Trump retweeted a conspiracy theory Saturday evening alleging without evidence that former President Bill Clinton was connected to the death of wealthy financier and accused sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein, hours after Epstein was found dead by apparent suicide in his federal prison cell.

“Died of SUICIDE on 24/7 SUICIDE WATCH ? Yeah right! How does that happen,” Terrence K. Williams, a conservative commentator and comedian, wrote in the message retweeted by Trump. In a two-minute-long selfie video recording, Williams alleged that the Clintons were responsible for Epstein’s death.

Republicans routinely blame the Clintons for Crimes they committed themselves. RESIST!!

It’s that time of week again, so here are four fine video clips from Bill’s show last night.  Enjoy!

Monologue: Tragedy Meets Trump

Trump doesn’t console. Trump does ass-sole.

Gov. Terry McAuliffe: Beyond Charlottesville

We need paper ballots EVERYWHERE! He’s too centrist for my tastes, but we ALL need to band together to defeat the Republican Reich and sweep them from power across the board.

Richard Engel

Although the Saudis allow women to go out without a guardian, I doubt Republicans will change their mind about allowing women to wear shoes.

New Rule: Past & Furious

I believe that liberals evolve. I know I did. On the other hand, Republicans devolve.

Bill was funnier than usual.

Here in the shiny new CatBox, I’m running late because I slept poorly, overslept, and still feel groggy.  I read the results of the Cat Scan.  I have a hiatal hernia.  I also have two tiny nodes in my left lung (5 mm and 1 mm).  I have a routine appt. with my Oncologist to interpret the Cat Scan in 10 days, so I won’t panic until I know I have cause.  Tomorrow is a busy WWWendy day, but I’ll try to stay in the saddle, because it’s the last full day of Care2 News.

That’s good! Also, Resident Donald Trump, the Tangerine Terrorist, Bought Bitch Moscow Mitch, and many other Republicans should have to pay millions in punitive damages. RESIST!!

From Common Dreams: Disgraced American billionaire and political insider Jeffrey Epstein was reported dead on Saturday morning from an apparent suicide in a New York City jail.

The New York Times reports:

Mr. Epstein hanged himself and his body was found this morning at Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan at roughly 7:30.

Manhattan federal prosecutors last month charged Mr. Epstein, 66, with sex trafficking of girls as young as 14, and details of his behavior have been emerging for years.

Mr. Epstein, a financier with opulent homes, a private jet and access to elite circles, had been dogged for decades by accusations that he had paid dozens of girls for sexual acts in Florida.

It makes no sense that Epstein had been removed from suicide watch.  I suspect that Epstein’s death may have been a Republicide, not a suicide. He had lots of  detailed dirt on a pants-load of super-rich Republican perverts, and he had an incentive to give it up. RESIST!!

From Think Progress: The signature promise of Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign was that he would build a massive wall along the nation’s southern border and that not a penny of it would be charged to the American taxpayer. He repeatedly boasted that he would get Mexico to pay for it.

But now that this lie has been all but abandoned, Senate Republicans reportedly plan to divert billions of dollars from health and education to make up the difference.

Roll Call reported on Thursday that Senate Appropriations Chairman Richard Shelby (R-AL) has written a Fiscal Year 2020 Labor-HHS-Education spending bill allocation “that is about $5 billion lower than it would have been to provide funding for the wall.” If this proposal gets the 60 votes required for passage in the Senate, it would still need to be negotiated with the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives.

Shelby has to know this will be shit-canned in conference committee. He’s just grandstanding to make the deplorable Republican Sheeple say BAAA-A-A-A-A!! RESIST!!

Yesterday the Republican Reich demonstrated their heartlessness in a couple of ways.  First, their Brown Shirt thugs, aka ICE, raided several poultry plants in Mississippi and detained almost 700 law-abiding workers, but undocumented, workers.  Millionaire plant owners had imported most of them years before to replace black workers, because they were trying to unionize.  The raids terrorized the detainees, their families, and Latinos nationwide.  Second, Resident Donald Trump, Fuhrer of the Republican Reich, continued his hate campaign against Latinos, even while visiting El Paso, where he was pretending to support victims of a massacre he and other Republicans had inspired.

0809raid

On Wednesday people across the United States were shocked by the news that ICE raids at a handful of Mississippi chicken plants had resulted in the largest single-state immigration enforcement action in U.S. history, with nearly 700 people detained. As surprising as the news was, coming on the heels of a deadly mass shooting that targeted Latinos, perhaps just as surprising was the location of the raids in the deep, rural South.

The prominence of Latinos in Mississippi’s chicken plants and communities today was not accidental. It was calculated, strategic and intimately related to deeply rooted structures of labor exploitation in the region. Beginning in the 1990s, Latin American immigrants were recruited to the state by the poultry industry, where they arrived to work in some of the lowest-paid and most dangerous jobs in the country. This week’s raids target deeply rooted workers and families and leave behind a devastated community, while also terrorizing many others across the country.

The roots of the heavily Latino workforces in Southern poultry plants lie in the growing American appetite for chicken during the 1990s, and the stirrings of a labor movement by African American plant workers. As poultry production expanded, workers’ pay and opportunities remained stagnant. As a result, labor organizing among the plants’ predominantly African American workforce began to gain traction.

Facing the prospect of its first union contract negotiations and in search of more “flexible” (read: exploitable and expendable) workers, in 1994 a chicken plant in Morton, Miss., headed to Miami in search of immigrant labor… [emphasis added]

Inserted from <Washington Post>

Both Rachel Maddow and Lawrence O’Donnell had segments on this.

ICE Raid Speaks Louder Than Donald Trump Platitudes On El Paso Shooting

If Republicans had hearts they would be kept on ICE.

What President Donald Trump Was Really Doing During El Paso Visit

Trump’s total lack of empathy is a major reason Republicans chose him as Fuhrer of their Reich.

Every Republican in office is one Republican too many!

From Daily Kos: The Southern Poverty Law Center’s Hatewatch has discovered a current official, Matthew Q. Gebert, works as a foreign affairs officer assigned to the Bureau of Energy Resources.

Raw Story, reporting on the SPLC discovery, notes that “Gebert has been with the department since 2013, and has for years gone by the online name of “Coach Finstock,” which he has used to spread white supremacist propaganda and advocate for a whites-only country.”

According to Hatewatch:

“A U.S. State Department official oversaw the Washington, D.C.-area chapter of a white nationalist organization, hosted white nationalists at his home and published white nationalist propaganda online, Hatewatch has determined.”

I’m not sure that publishing this was a good idea. Now that they are aware of his racist hatred, the Republican leadership is likely to promote him. RESIST!!
