Yesterday, I got the groceries put away. I finished all the cartoons for December. I put together and submitted the claim for reimbursement for my thyroid. And I puttered around a little with beads and pendants.

Short Takes

Crooks and Liars – Wait Til You Hear What Kimmel Called Tucker Carlson This Time
Quote – To scare grandma, they need fresh villains. So they zero in on this tiny, adorable, tired man, who has done nothing but good for this world. Dr. Fauci has probably done more good for the world than all of us in this room combined.”
Click through for what he called Tucker. What impressed me more was his description of Fauci, so that’s what I quoted.

The Revelator – Invasive Species Are Threatening Antarctica’s Fragile Ecosystems
Quote – We mapped the last five years of planes and ships visiting the continent, illuminating for the first time the extent of travel across the hemispheres and the potential source locations for non-native species. We found that, luckily, while some have breached Antarctica, they generally have yet to get a stranglehold, leaving the continent still relatively pristine. But Antarctica is getting busier, with new research stations, rebuilding and more tourism activities planned. Our challenge is to keep it pristine under this growing human activity and climate change threat.
Click through for details and prognosis. The Revelator is a niche publication, ;iterally all about saving the earth for human habitation, which means it’s very much about climate change and reversing its effects.

SILive – Honoring frontline workers and more: See how Jill Biden decorated the White House for Christmas
Quote – This year marks Joe and Jill Biden’s first holiday season in the White House as president and first lady. Jill Biden explained they were inspired by Americans across the country who remind us that “our differences are precious and our similarities infinite.” The year was also defined by the uncommon acts of compassion, bravery and selflessness by many — and the White House celebrates their service and sacrifice, Jill Biden said.
Click through for more. I wanted an article that was positive about it, which eliminated Slate and the New York Times quickly. I think most of us are glad to have a President and First Lady who are human and humane.  BTW, I think the video – in the Video Thread – shows more detail.

  1. Cartoon: Oh! I remember this! How horribly sad and tragic!
C&L: I enjoy listening to Jimmy Kimmel. He’s so spot on and down to earth (truth), with his comments…Keep it up, Jimmy!
Revelator: Good article, I never think about this. I think that the cooperation between nations is vital for the research and commitment to take care of Antarctica, and also it’s wildlife and environment.
SILive: Absolutely beautiful !!! pictures! (I like the Kindness and Hope picture). Actually, I like them all !

    FFT: Re: The R’s… Yep!

TJI – “Today, the United States Supreme Court will again take up the contentious issue of whether having a uterus makes you a person or 3D printer. ~ Feminist Next Door ~ H/T – Joanne  ~
    2. “Happy 64th Birthday, Ms. Caroline Kennedy.” 12/2/57  ~ Robert W.K. ~
    3. “Democrat Stacey Abrams announces 2022 bid for Georgia Governor.” ~ Teaganne Finn ~
    4. “Jamie Belsito has won the Massachusetts House special election and has flipped it BLUE! Congratulations!
    ~ Call To Action ~
    5. “You must have confidence in your competence.” ~ Elijah Cummings ~

    • TJI #1 – I thought that was well said.
TJI #2 – A happy one indeed. She has seen so much loss … and she serves happiness (and Republicans are NOT helping.)
TJI #3 – And there’s no doubt that she can win, PROVIDED a free and fair election can be held. And that the Georgia legislation doesn’t vote in provisions to allow them to overturn it (yes, this is a thing.)
TJI #4 – Yippee! We are flipping numerous local electins – several got flipped in Georgia this week too – one mayoralty and several city council if I remember correctly.
TJI #5 – Provided you have the competence to begin with (a couple of guys named Kruger and Dunning know all about this.)

  2. Comment from Mitch –

    Good for you.
‘Toon: Just like Oz saying that the loss of only 2-3% of schoolkids is acceptable. C&L: Kimmel nails it!!!!!!!
Revelator: Can’t open the page, but Antarctica REALLY needs protection.
SILive: Can’t open this page either, but humans in the WH is a nice change.
FFT: The bill passed, but the Rethiglicans do not give a damn about helping anything but themselves.
    Mitch

  3. C&L: I’m also enjoy listening to Jimmy Kimble. It’s despicable listening to all of the titles they were calling Dr. Fauci. I wish they’d knock Faux News off the air. All they speak is trash/fake news.
The Revelator: Important information. I do care about everything that humans and corporations are doing to our environment. Dumping trash, chemicals and other deadly substances out into and around our oceans. Causing deaths to so many birds, fish, sea creatures and mammals. I sign petitions every week and will continue doing so to protect our wildlife and the environment.
SiLive: Wow…I love the way she designed each room.  Done so elegantly. I would love to be able to walk and see each one of them in person.
Food for Thought: I have to agree with Mitch’s comment. All they care about is themselves.
Glad you were able to finish your cartoons. Plus were able to get your groceries put away. Hope all that was on your list came without them substituting any.
Hope your day was pleasant and your night goes well.
    Take care. Thanks Joanne.

  4. I’ve worked through most of my email backlog, but have some declarations to take care of and quite a bit of brigade stuff, but I’ll allow myself some PP read&comment time now, Joanne.

Cartoon: I remember that all too well. I also remember that on the 25th-anniversary newborns were still suffering the effects and people were still waiting on their compensation by Union Carbide. I wonder if that still holds today.

C&L: The way right-wing America attacks Fauci, a dedicated man of science not of politics, is utterly disgusting and normative for American culture these days, i.e. if you don’t agree or if things don’t go your way, don’t discuss it but destroy it/them completely. It was good to hear Kimmel defend a man that should be honoured, not abused.

TR: Antarctica is one of nature’s last strongholds, slowly losing the battle against human interference on many different levels. It makes me want to cry.

SL: The Whitehouse looks a lot more Christmassy this year than when Melania tried her hand at decorating.

FFT: Americans should know by now; Republicans have been pulling the same stunt for years now every time they lose the election and Democrats are left to mop up the financial mess they left behind.
