Yesterday, the radio opera was “Luisa Miller” by Verdi.  If you know a little about opera but have never heard of it, there’s a reason for that – the plot is even more depressing than most opera plots.  The only bright spot is that the protagonist (I really can’t call him a “hero”) manages to muster up enough strength just before he dies to kill the villain.  It does have many beautiful melodies, and I would definitely rather hear it than see it, so there’s that.

Crooks and Liars – Meet Acting President Kamala Harris
Quote – Going under anesthesia for a routine checkup and colonoscopy (cancer screenings save lives, folks) Joe Biden handed over the reins of the US Presidency to Vice President Kamala Harris. She’s Acting President Kamala Harris for a few hours today, and she’s the first woman in history to have that honor. An “honor,” by the way, that Mango Mussolini was too chicken sh*t to bestow on Mike Pence.
Click through for some witty tweets. ICYMI, this happened Friday.  And Joe came through the physical just fine.

Democratic Underground (gab13by13) Most ransacked office on 1/6.
Quote – The most ransacked office the day of the failed coup was the Parlementarian’s [sic] office where the Electoral college ballots would have been stored.
Click through for possible reasoning. It’s short. Only a footnote. But, as Agatha Christie used to have Poirot say, “It gives one furiously to think.”

Daily Kos (Joan McCarter) – Biden boots Bloom from Postal Service board, DeJoy’s days as Postmaster are numbered
Quote – “The USPS serves hundreds of millions of Americans across the nation every day,” the White House wrote in the statement announcing the nominations. “President Biden is committed to supporting USPS workers so that they can continue delivering for their fellow Americans, particularly those in rural communities, veterans, and older Americans who rely so heavily on the Postal Service. President Biden is also committed to strengthening and modernizing this critical public institution and its services to ensure it continues serving the American people for decades to come.”
Click through for a story we have all been waiting for what seems like forever. Bloom won’t actually be out until December 8 – but it’s now carved in stone that he will be out.

  1. Glad to read that you had a wonderful opportunity to listen to your radio opera. I know that you enjoy it.

Cartoon: Holy Moly! It was a fake, and a fraud at the same time.
C&L: What a great part of history in the making. Love this! An Act that she will not forget. Cheers!
DU: Amen! A Hero! imho, and Democracy!
DK: PTL…Wonderful and fantastic news!  Buh, bye…dejoy.
FFT: YAY! Go away and while we’re at it…Lock his as- up!

THIS JUST IN:  “Happy Birthday, President Joe Biden!” ~ The Democrats ~
    2. “We are deeply concerned by reports that tennis player Peng Shuai appears to be missing, and we join the calls for the PRC to provide independent, verifiable proof of her whereabouts. Women everywhere deserve to have reports of sexual assault taken seriously and investigated.” ~ Wendy Sherman ~
    3. Justice denied is a body blow to our national psyche. On trial was not only a killer, but a system that continues to kill. Today that system defeated true justice, once again. But mark these words:We will never stop fighting for what is right and just.” ~ George Takei ~
    4. “Today, as House Speaker, I was proud to sign HR 5142, to posthumously award a Congressional Gold Medal to the 13 Servicemembers who died in Afghanistan on August 26, 2021 during the evacuation of citizens of the United States & Afghan allies at Hamid Karzai International Airport.” ~ Madame Speaker Nancy Pelosi ~

    ~ Lawrence Tribe ~

    • TJI #1 – I signed one of the electronic birthday cards that were floatinng around, ad I wish him many, many more. (Incidentally, he just had his annual physical … which suggests he has been conscientious about getting it near his birthday for many years … maybe even his whole life. I certainly can’t say that.)
TJI #2 – Looks like we have confirmed there’s (another) country out there more authoritarian than we are. We settle for NDAs haea. But don’t let it go to your head. We are heading that way if we are not careful. (The update is goodto hear – but does not necessarily mean she is not under house arrest.)
TJI #3 – That’s why I moved Beau’s newest (at the time) video up to yesterday, although I’m still behind. We deperately needed to hear it.
TJI #4 – Instead of screaming and yelling in outrage which is – if I may borrow the idiom – all hat and no cattle – Democrats just get things done.
TJI #5 – No one deserves it more, except possibly Roger Stone and TFG.

      • TJI#1: I too signed the birthday cards for President Biden yesterday. Hope he enjoy his special day. That the year keeps him healthy with many more to come. Was happy he was given a clean bill of health too,
TJI#2: I pray that she’s really safe. Not that they have her locked up and forced to do these videos.
TJI#3: Shameful, he should of been convicted.
TJI#4: Sad they lost their lives….well deserved being recognized.
        TJI#5: Ditto Joanne’s comment.

  2. RE: TJI #2.
“At the beginning of the 30-minute call, Peng Shuai thanked the IOC for its concern about her well-being,” it said, adding that “she explained that she is safe and well, living at her home in Beijing, but would like to have her privacy respected at this time”.

  3. Commmet from Mitch –

‘Toon: If only someone could “Officially” announce that Dumpy is the hoax he is.C&L: Doesn’t the real “normal” just flow?
    DU: Clever person.  Sooooo close!
    DK: Wunnerful!  Wunnerful!
FFT: I can’t wait for the comments when Mr. “Get used to me,” is a used to be!
    Mitch

  4. the idea of DeJoy eventually being out is hopeful

  5. Cartoon: Darn it not real. Wish Mitch’s comment was true about dumpy.
C&L: She did very well. I like the sound of a woman President. Maybe 2024?
DU; Thank goodness for the one staffer.
DK: Wonderful news, I’ll be happy when dEjoy is gone. I’ve been signing all petitions to get him out.
Food for Thought: Adios, dEjoy. I agree with Pat’s comment, lock him up!\
Nice that you were able to listen to your Opera and enjoy it yesterday,
Hope you had a pleasant Sunday and your evening goes well.
    Take care. Thanks Joanne

  6. I’m glad you enjoyed your little-known Verdi opera, Joanne.

Cartoon: Republicans would point out here that you can’t trust scientists.

C&L: How wonderful for Kamala Harris to make American history again, but I’m glad it was only for a very short time. America, and the rest of the world for that matter, isn’t prepared for the chaos and mayhem that Republicans would cause if Harris had to take over permanently from Biden at this point in time.

DU: That is indeed something to look into further. That hardly is a spur-of-the-moment thing that a random group of people acting on impulse would do, is it?

DK: Good news. I know he’s a very busy man, bat what took Biden so long? DeJoy has been on a rampage since the day he set foot in that office and hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down under a new President. I hope the weak USPS board can prevent DeJoy from wreaking further havoc until he’s finally booted out.

    FFT: Yup, set in stone.

    • C&L – Great minds. It’s not racist to point out that the US is racist, not is it misgynistic to point out that the US is misogynistic – it’s just reality/ But it is certainly received as misogynistic and racist by many Deomocrats. Sigh/

DK – He did fill twovacancies on the board. He can’t get Bloom out until the end of his term. He gave Bloom over two weeks notice. That’s enough. Why telegraph the mob that you are going to come down on them, when you have a date that you can’t do it prior to? That just gives them more time to prepare.
