Yesterday, It was pretty quiet. I got to do some knitting and even play at some games a little. Nice.

Short Takes –

The New Yorker (Borowitz Report) – El Chapo Refuses to Share a Prison Cell with Steve Bannon
Quote – The ex-kingpin said that, although he had not heard of any plans to house Bannon in his prison cell, he was speaking “out of an abundance of caution.”… El Chapo’s sentiments have been echoed by the nation’s prison population, two million of whom have signed a petition refusing to share their cells with Bannon.

AL dot com – A murdered Alabama woman’s wedding ring was sold at auction. The Missouri man who bought it won’t sell to her grieving family.
Quote – “This fella was wanting to buy the ring back,’’ Blaker said. “I bought it fair and square. He thinks I should let him have and him send me the money,’’ Blaker said. “I don’t trust anybody anymore. I’ve been screwed around on deals like this.” Blaker said they didn’t initially agree on the price. Stanton called him again. “He was preying on my sympathy I guess and said, ‘Well that was my wife’s wedding ring,’’’ Blaker said. “I said, ‘Well, I’ve changed my mind. I don’t want to get rid of anything.’’

The Daily Beast – Joe Manchin Isn’t Moved by Dem Attacks—He’s Emboldened By Them
Quote – And it’s exactly these big moments—when Sanders and like-minded Democrats express their endless frustration with Manchin—that help him burnish the gadfly credentials needed for a Democrat to survive in a state that went for Donald Trump in 2020 by 38 points. So, despite visits from angry kayakers, millions of dollars spent on ad campaigns pressuring him, thousands of calls to his office, and countless meetings with various constituents, Manchin has so far not budged a dollar on the Democrats’ signature legislation. If anything, he’s doubled down.
Click through for details. And now he may be thinking about turning Republican (he denies this.)

Food for Thought – This ought to be the last word on Mayor Pete and Chasten:

  1. YAY! Glad that you had a great and relaxing day yesterday. Keep it continual.
NYer: I can completely understand his quandry. LOL
AL: Yikes! That is brutally cold hearted…imho. Sad for her family.
DB: What a shame Manchin is doing that. Does he want all that attention?? What a jerk.
FFT: I can see Carlson doing that…he bends the knee to kiss his arse.

This JUST IN: “I believe that we should have an investigation into every multi-millionaire in Congress who has accumulated their wealth on a congressional salary using our tax dollars. ~ Charlie Kirk ~
    2. “President Biden demands that “the January 6th committee lock-up Steve Bannon and the rest of Trump’s aides who are refusing it’s subpoenas for criminal contempt, saying they must be held accountable.”
    3. “I asked my ICU nurse what she wanted unvaccinated people to know. She said “I don’t want to meet them. We want them to be with their families and friends enjoying life – and we want to focus our energy on more people who could not avoid coming to us.” ~ John Pavlovitz ~
    4. “Regarding the mocking of the manliness of Pete Buttigieg, I’d like to just say that Pete served 6 years in the Navy Reserves, and was deployed to Afghanistan. Tucker Carlson was booted off ‘Dancing with the Stars’ after he couldn’t even do the ChaCha.” ~ Joy Behar ~
    5. “Pete Buttigieg is also a concert pianist. He speaks 8 languages.. English, Norwegian, Spanish, French, Italian, Maltese, Arabic, and Dari, and is a practicing Catholic.” *pb

    • TJI #1 – That would certainly open up a ginormous number of well-paid job oppurtunities … and probably also a slew of oppurtunities for entry level legal clerks and bank tellers. That alone seems like a pretty good reason to go for it.
TJI #2 – This is sure to trigger Baby Dooce – or maybe it’s what already did trigger him which Jan had an answer for.
TJI #3 – Thanks for trying, John, but it won’t get through to them, and I really don’t know what would. These are people who are capable of dying of CoViD while still claiming there is no such thing.
TJI #4 and #5 – What would you expect but mockery from Republicans like Madison “raise a monster” Cawthorn?

    • Note from John Pavlovitz – 1 hour ago.

“I was told this brain tumor surgery recovery would be steps forward and back. A little back today, as sense of smell decided to leave again and some headaches returned. Surgeon says nothing unexpected, just speed bump. Prescheduled posts to and lots of rest today. Love and peace.”

      • It’s good that his surgeon was totally up front with him about what to expect.  Panic is never helpful.More prayers his way.  (P.S. Aren’t you glad Ben Carson wasn’t the surgeon?)

      • I too thank the surgeon for being open and honest with John. Hopefully his loss of smell and his headaches won’t last too long. Will continue to pray for John. Thanks Pat

    • TJI #4 – Just to put things in perspective, here’s Phucker Carlson’s idea of “manliness” from Dancing with the Stars:

    • TJI#1: I agree with him 100%.
      TJI#2: That’s what I’ve been hoping they’d do with tRumpy’s buddies.
TJI#3: Too bad they do have to take the unvaccinated ones in. I keep hoping that insurance companies warn them that their hospital cost won’t be covered.
TJI#4: tUcker like tRump, isn’t worth even listening to. All he does is speak lies.

  2. Comment from Mitch –

‘Toon: Sometime, back then, I participated in the march at the Pentagon.
ST: Well, Bannon’s stated goal is to bring ALL the institutions crumbling down, and El Chapo must have been good at building his own, or he wouldn’t have been able to develop his drug-running empire.  By definition, an EMPIRE needs institutions in order to function.
AL,com: May the curse of the Great DalBonga descend on Blaker’s head!  Soon, he will be able to slide his soon to be little, tinie, weenie pin-head through the ring!
DB: It’s all about investments?  It’s the usual: Follow the money.  His son has a company that rakes in the millions, and is attached to coal.  I read that he’s threatened to go Independent, which will still stink, as it will give the senate gavel back to Mcturtle.
FFT: “Ought” is the operative word.
Tractor Driving: We were visiting my cousin, in Maine, not too long ago, on the 86, or so, acre farm they bought in July, and I was offered a shot at driving
the tractor.  It took longer to explain what all the levers and gadgets were for, and how to use them, than the ride itself.  So, I can appreciate that it is not “Unskilled labor” who does the drudge work of “driving” the country forward.
    Mitch

  3. El Chapo Refuses to Share a Prison Cell with Steve Bannon

El Chapo is on solid legal ground here: That would most assuredly be a violation of our Eighth Amendment ‘s prohibition against inflicting “cruel and unusual punishment”.

A murdered Alabama woman’s wedding ring was sold at auction. The Missouri man who bought it won’t sell to her grieving family.

What a putz.  No doubt spends his days angrily yelling at the clouds.

(Not going to dox him, but I found him [Kearney’s not very far from KCMO] and he lives in a half-million dollar home – and that buys a LOT of home in Kearney, MO.)

Joe Manchin Isn’t Moved by Dem Attacks—He’s Emboldened By Them

He’s threatening to become an Independent, but would still caucus w/ the Democrats.  If he switched parties to the GQP he’d have no power at all – so I doubt he’ll do that.

  4. PS: What games do you play?  Online games?

Years ago, I used to play Psychobabble online – but it closed down.

Now on my phone (Android) I play FreeCell & Hearts (cards), Lexathon, Word Twist & Wordscapes (word games) and sometimes Pop Words Reactions & Riddles – but they have a finite number of challenges.

    • I only play on a desktop or an older laptop with a large screen.  I’f I can’t see clearly it ceses to be fun.  I play games I have downloaded and bought (after using the free trial period to make sure I’ll like them..  I play some Match3 and some Card (soltaire) games, but mostly I like what they call HOPA (Hidden Object Puzzle Adventure) games.  The Match3 and solitaire are mainly for when I’m not feeling up to the challenge of a HOPA.  And even with those, there’s pften some kind of story involved, or at the very least stunning graphics.  Most of my solitaire games are one-up-one-down, but there’s a series which includes “Bonus Games, some of which are MahJong games, but mostly different classic solitaires like Klondike, Yujom, Pyramid, Spider, and of course Free Cell.  TC used to use Steam – I mostly deal with Big Fish Games, but not exclusively.  I could probably email you one of the non-Big Fish ones, but it would be the PC version, since that’s all I use.

  5. Cartoon: Remember hearing of these when I was younger.
TNY: Don’t blame him one bit.
    AL: What a heartless creep.
DB: He calls himself a democrat, yet he kisses tRump’s as* and has done nothing to help the people, or work with the democrats at passing the infrastructure bill.
Food for Thought: That’s tUcker all right.
Happy to hear you had a pleasant day yesterday. Hope they continue that way for you.
    Take care. Thanks Joanne

  6. Don’t you love those easy days when you have a bit of time to yourself, Joanne?

Cartoon: I hope a patriot march against the war on democracy is organised soon.

TNY: If according to Andy, El Chapo and 2 million other inmates refuse to share a cell with Bannon, prison authorities will have little choice but to send him into solitary. Sadly that may turn out to be the fancy, pampered version as prisoners on death row won’t have him in their block either.

Al.com: Again a scenario that would be deemed too unbelievable for a movie. The unsolved murder crime is bad enough for any family to process, but not returning her wedding ring along with all her other possessions that were returned to the family is a gross clerical error that should have been rectified. The family shouldn’t have to try and buy the ring back themselves; it was theirs to start with and they should have to deal with a grumpy, if not senile, old man. I hope this has nothing to do with the fact that this family is black.

DP: If neither peer pressure nor public pressure doesn’t work, perhaps a cordon sanitaire will do the trick. It may make him turn Republican, but he is a Republican in every possible way anyhow. Democrats would lose their majority in the Senate but that’s moot as long as he is holding the Democratic party hostage. Sadly it will be back to McConnell holding the Democrats hostage if Manchin defects. Manchin is the worst kind of traitor there is.

FFT: Tucker shouldn’t talk with his mouth full.

    • Seeing as the ring wound up in Missouri (and see Nameless’s comment) I sort of figured it did have something to do with the family being black.  Particularly since he was going to sell it back, and than changed his mind.  What do you suppose caused that change of mid?

      • The buyer reportedly is 85 years old, which is the reason why I referred to him as a grumpy, if not senile, old man. According to Nameless he’s well-to-do, so a very bigoted Scrooge mentality may be an underlying factor. All conjecture, of course.

    • In addition to my comment on Manchin…

I found these remarks in a Raw Story article on Manchin’s buddy in crime, Sinema, and her loss of support, allies and friends. They are even collecting donations to fund a candidate against her.

“It’s time to send a message that she can’t ignore,” the group’s CrowdPAC page says. “Either Sen. Sinema votes to end or reform the Jim Crow filibuster this year or we fund a primary challenge to replace her with someone who will.” (my emphasis)

State Sen. Martin Quezada, a Democrat who is backing the effort, told Salon that for sitting lawmakers, “the only thing that really gets you motivated to start seriously considering changing your views on things is if you are facing a threat to your seat.”

Wouldn’t Manchin be afraid of that happening?
