Yesterday was pretty calm – which was a good thing, because I was finding it a challenge to keep my eyes open. At least some of that had to be the weather. My favorite aunt used to call such weather “enervating.” And I certainly felt enervated. I’m sure I am far from alone – it isn’t even all that humid here (though certainly more so than I would like it to be.) Apropos of nothing, it’s pronounced with the primary accent on the initial “e” whch is short (as in “hen”). I come by my fascination with words honestly.

Short Takes –

Crooks and Liars – President Biden’s Perfect Troll
Quote – [“reprter] “I-I-I-I-I-I’m not sure…” (That’s my transcription from the video. I may have miscounted but it’s close.)
Click through if you missed it. It’s short and very sweet.

The Hill – Freedom Caucus presses McCarthy to force vote to oust Pelosi
Quote – In the letter, the Freedom Caucus also cited other reasons why Pelosi should be removed: She has allowed remote, proxy voting by lawmakers due to the coronavirus pandemic, and she had metal detectors installed at the entrances to the House floor after the Jan. 6 attack … But their main gripe was her decision this week to essentially veto two of McCarthy’s five GOP picks for the Jan. 6 select committee: Reps. Jim Banks (R-Ind.) and Jim Jordan (R-Ohio). Both are die-hard Trump loyalists and Jordan was the founding chairman of the Freedom Caucus. In response, a furious McCarthy said Republicans would boycott participating in the committee, which kicks off its first hearing Tuesday.
Click through for details. We knew they were deusional, and thinking they might conceivably have the votes to do this certainly proves it. If they do think so. More likely, its a purity test for political theater.

AP News – Iowa Democrat Finkenauer seeking GOP Sen. Grassley’s seat
Quote – Finkenauer, despite losing her House seat in 2020 after one term, remains a youthful prospect in the Iowa Democratic Party, which has struggled to produce a new generation for statewide office. Along with 38-year-old Democrat Dave Muhlbauer, a farmer who previously announced his bid for Grassley’s seat, she is hoping Grassley’s slipping poll numbers provide an opening to revive a shrinking segment of the party’s once diverse electorate: rural voters.
Click through for more about her and about the race. I certainly wish her the very best of luck (and I fear she- or any Democrat – will need it.)

  1. C&L: Awesome! Thank the Lord for President Biden!
The Hill: Good grief!! Ms. Pelosi is doing her job, and will continue to do so. Screw the R’s wasting time on this.
AP News: Fingers crossed and Good Luck to Ms. Finkenauer.
    FFT: So sad.
I love afternoon naps, but chores overwhelm that feeling for me. Get ‘er done, and then relax, I say.
Enjoy your day!  Thank you Joanne, for post.

This just in: “Just as notable are the twisted incentives: the moment Trump stops lying about his defeat is the moment this lucrative cash cow disappears. Many have assumed his election lies are about his ego, but these details suggest they’re also about his wallet.” ~ Rachel Maddow ~
    2. “I applaud the Democrats and Nancy Pelosi for taking [the January 6 committee] seriously — because the American people deserve it.” ~Lincoln Project Sr. Advisor Tara Setmayer on DeadlineWH
    3. “Retweet if you think @SpeakerPelosi should add @RepKinzinger to the Jan. 6 select committee. Like @RepLizCheney, he’s a true patriot who’ll seek the truth about the insurrection.” ~ Jon Cooper~
    4. “FACT CHECK: McCarthy implied on Fox News that the Speaker of the House held back the National Guard on January 6. She had no role in the matter. But McCarthy had a phone call with Trump while the Capitol was attacked. We’d like to hear more about that.” ~ Democratic Coalition~
    5. Stephen Colbert explains the rejection of Jim Jordan and Jim Banks: “They’re two potential suspects. Nancy Pelosi can’t look the other way. She’s not Jim Jordan in the showers at Ohio State.”

*I may go down to 3 comments for my TJI’s. Short and sweet!  I’m still mulling about it…..we’ll see. Thanks! *pb

    • TJI #1 – With Donnie, it’s ALWAYS about the grift

      TJI #2 – So true!

TJI #3 – I’d LOVE to see Rep. Kinzinger on the Select Committee

TJI #4 – Deflect is one of the GQP’s main tools (along w/ deny, delay, project, etc.)

TJI #5 – I like the Gym Jordan joke.

I’m fine w/ your going down to just 3 TJIs.  Pace yourself and take some time for yourself!

      • TJI #1 – Bingo! We have a winner!
        TJI #2 – Yup.
TJI #3 – I thought – and I tink I said, even before Cheneyvolunteeres, that Speaker Pelosi should appoint Cheney and Kitzinger. And today, right around noon Eastern, she did add him.
TJI #4 – It’s also the last thing she would have done even if she had that authority. No, it was Trump** sycophants in the DoD who did that.
        TJI #5 – Well said.

Definitely do what you think best. (Does it actually need to be a fixed number at all?)

    • TJI#1: Spot one, Rachel.
      TJI#2: Definitely.
TJI#3: Rep. Kinzinger excepted Nancy’s offer to be on the panel. Thank Goodness.
      TJI#4: No she didn’t. He’s a rotten liar.
I know I miss commenting on them, Pat, but I do enjoy reading them. I agree with Joanne that there doesn’t have to be a certain number of them each day. Thanks Pat

    • Post just as many TJIs that suit you, Pat. Any number is a gift to me, even when I don’t often comment.

  2. JD—I’ve been feeling enervated lately, also.                                                                                                     Cartoon—-pretty much coincides with today’s COVID hot zone!                                                                       Troll—-Gotta love it,and Joe. Thankful to be here with y’all who do,vs. neighbors IRL.                                            The Hill—Definitely delusional. Sooo relieved we won’t have to endure Gym Jordan. K. McCarthy said GQP having separate(but NOT equal,LOL! )committee? Got my refreshments ready for Tues.                                     Iowa Senate race—We have a dream, for this race and several others.                                                             FFT—-I remember being entranced by drawings of what Ohio likely looked like B4 white peeps took over. Dense forests,a small bison species, prairies in some western parts, etc.  Alas. I do despair for kids, younger folks.   A boy  commented that he liked my reel lawn mower as I was using it. I said I wanted him to have a nice planet for his lifetime. Then I asked if anyone else had told him that. He said “no”. Of course some do, just hadn’t told him. Take care, all.

  3. If I ever knew what the Crittenden Resolution was, I long ago forgot about it.  So I had to revisit it:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crittenden%E2%80%93Johnson_Resolution

    President Biden’s Perfect Troll

    Definitely one for the Ages:

BIDEN: “ARE THERE PEOPLE IN THE REPUBLICAN PARTY WHO THINK WE’RE SUCKING THE BLOOD OUT OF KIDS.”

Freedom Caucus presses McCarthy to force vote to oust Pelosi

The Former Guy has a better chance of being reinstated on 8/13/21 than this happening.

Iowa Democrat Finkenauer seeking GOP Sen. Grassley’s seat

    Bottom Line: ANYONE but Grassley

  4.  C&L: Enjoy his comebacks when he’s asked some of the dumbest questions. Puts them right back into their place.
The Hill: mCCarthy can go and take a hike, that’s with his rotten R buddies too. I praise Nancy for standing up to all of the rotten R’s shenanigans.
A/P News: Good luck to Ms. Finkenauer.
Food for Thought: Really sad to see what is happening to our planet due to Climate Change. Wish people would take it seriously.
Yep, same here, Joanne. I don’t know if it’s from the humid weather here, but just haven’t had much energy.  Plus yesterday when I was typing a response in Nameless’ Friday post, I lost the Wi-Fi. Plus didn’t get to do the your post either. Gave up for the rest of the early evening. Gets so frustrating. Do any of you have much issues with your Wi-Fi? I have Spectrum which use to be Time Warner.
I hope you get some response regarding your paperwork you submitted Friday. Maybe with it being a new week, they’ll answer your request.
Hope your Sunday was a peaceful one.
    Take care. Thanks Joanne

    • I have DSL, which supposedly comes with WiFi, but I’ve never been able to set it up. so I only use WiFi when I’m away from home with my laptop.  That works well except one weekend it didn’t, and it wasn’t y laptop, it was the ISP.  The whole hotel was down.

I do often type comments (and always type whole posts) into a word program firs, and then copy and paste.  That works great if you can see what you are commenting on and just aren’t able to post it at the moment, or if you do post and the system eats it.  It doesn’t work quite as well when you can’t see anything though.

I’m sure to be approved for vivitation – I’ve lived a blameless life.  I just don’t know how far back they are required to look.  If they are allowed to start from my last visit it should be a breeze.  If they have to do a complete background sheck, it’ll take some days.  We’ll see.

  5. C&L: As a reporter, you haven’t even reached the stupid maturity level yet if you’re answering the question Biden turned on you with “I-I-I-I-I-I’m not sure…”

    TH:

APN: Good luck to you, Ms Finkenauer. I don’t think Iowa is ready for a Democratic senator yet.

FFT: It’s about time we realise that we all are culpable for the planet’s destruction.
