It’s a busy day here in the CatBox.  I had to take an Oxycodone this morning to supplement the methadone.  I try to avoid that whenever I can. It’s been three days since the last time I Republicated, and I’m not happy with that.  Happy Hump Day!

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 4:41 (average 4:31).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From Daily Kos: House Democratic legislators including the chair of the chamber’s Veterans’ Affairs committee have reintroduced legislation that would block the deportation of noncitizen U.S. military veterans, and allow eligible deported veterans to return home to the U.S. Because federal immigration officials don’t follow even their own policy, it’s unknown exactly how many veterans have been kicked out of the U.S. over the years. Advocates have estimated the number to be around 230.

“It’s a disgrace that veterans are falling through the cracks of our broken immigration system and being deported,” Veterans’ Affairs chair Mark Takano said, who reintroduced the bill with fellow Californian Juan Vargas and Arizona’s Raúl Grijalva. “Deported veterans are exiled from the country that they call home and that they fought to defend, and they face significant barriers to access the benefits they are entitled to and eligible for under the law. Congress must act and fix this injustice, and passing this comprehensive legislative package can help us achieve that.”

I fully agree with this legislation. To deport veterans who have put themselves in harm’s way to defend this nation is so criminal, it’s … Republican!  RESIST the Republican Reich!!

From NY Times: It was a familiar play by Donald J. Trump: lashing out at his enemies and trying to raise money from it.

The former president this week escalated a standoff over the Republican Party’s financial future, blasting party leaders and urging his backers to send donations to his new political action committee — not to the institutional groups that traditionally control the G.O.P.’s coffers.

“No more money for RINOS,” he said in a statement released on Monday by his bare-bones post-presidential office, referring to Republicans In Name Only. He directed donors to his own website instead.

Trump** wasted no time in getting back to sheeple fleecing. Sheeple are so dumb that it’s BAAA-A-A-A-A-AAD!!  RESIST the Republican Reich!!

From YouTube (a blast from the past): Judy Collins – Send In The Clowns

Ah… the memories and the clown cars!  RESIST the Republican Reich!!

Don’t Let Republicans Steal YOUR Future!!

  1. Got oatmeal?

Cartoon – I have never really studied either the Confederate Constitution or the Articles of Confederation which the US has before we had out Constitution. But I somehow got the impression that those two documents were more similar to each other than either was to the US Constitution Does anyone know whether that is correct? (Don’t anyone research it just for me. I can do that, I’m just being lazy.)

DK – I have been quite vocal myself on this over the years. And this legislation is good. But it is not enough. We now need to enact protection for non-citizen civilians who have risked their lives in war zones acting as translators and guides to American military. I mean (expletive), K-9’s get better treatment than these heroes do.

NYT – Knowledgeable people seem to believe this move by Trump** will be good for us. He has said he won’t form a third party … but with this move, he won’t need to in order to split what’s left of the GOP. I hope they are right.

Blast – This song was written by Sondheim especially for Jean Simmins, who created the role of Desiree in “A Little Night Music.” Ms. Simmons, a fine actress, had not done much singing, and did not have the breath control to sing long phrases effectively. “Send in the Clowns” was constructed from short phrases to support her. I don’t think Judy Collins needed that assistance … I was fortunate enough to see “A Little Night Music” live at the Kennedy Center while stationed in the DC area. Glynis Johns played Desiree and Margaret Hamilton played her mother. What a night!

  2. Cartoon: ugh!
DK: Positive action needs to be taken to treat our veterans better, and to stop deportation. A disgrace, and crying shame.
NYT: The R’s donating to dt’s cause?? Good Grief! I would however, give $$ to a cockroach before I gave anything to this loser. What a slimeball.
BFTP: Love this song, it’s one of my favorites. Love Judy.

Uh, oh!! Hope that you can get a chance to Republicate, and soon. I understand your feelings about that too. Hope that it happens, and that you have a good rest of your day. Take good care, and Thanks, Tom.
    Good Luck!!

*This just in: “He smelled Trumpy. Instinct took over.” ~ Major Biden ~
    2. “A 3 year old just joyfully announced that her baby dolly is getting the vaccine today.” ~ Kate Shaw ~
    3. Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH) – yelled at the GOP over union organizing bill: “Heaven forbid we pass something that’s going to help dam(n) workers in the United States of America. Now stop talking about Dr. Seuss and work with us!!!”

    4. “Breaking!! Merrick Garland will be the next Attorney General. Senate Vote – 70 – 29.” ~ Morgan Freeman ~

    5. “Alaska just became the first state in the Nation to open up vaccine eligibility to everyone 16 and over.”
    ~ Nathaniel H. ~

    • TJI #1 – It would appear (not just from this) that Major does need some trainig. But that’s do-able.
TJI #3 – This is the PRO Bill. I have more about it for the video thread – not today – tomorrow or Friday.
TJI #4 – Forgive me for editing it for emphasis. This is the best news of the day – the stimulus is only the second best.(The Hill is saying 70-30, not sure why the discrepancy.)
TJI #5 – Good for them.

    • TJI#1: Good dog!
TJI#3: THIS is a good Ryan!
TJI#4: The law of unintended consequences strikes again!

    • TJI #1: German Shepherds are excellent watchdogs and will guard their ‘masters’ and property with their lives. Major only did what comes natural to him but that instinct can be curbed as GSs are well trainable too.

TJI #3: Keep it up, Ryan. Sadly Republicans aren’t as easy to train as GSs.

TJI #4: See my comment below. Trump may have finally overstepped the line.

    • TJI #3 – More of THIS from Democrats!

  3. Cartoon:
DK: I agree with you that all Veterans that have served our country should be given citizenship and get all of the benefits that all others deserve and get. I have been signing petitions regarding immigration issues for years now. Hopefully they’ll wise up and do something about it. It’s long overdue.
TNY: Donating to tRumpy?? Why??? Pure evilness. It Must be stopped.
BFTP: Great song by Judy Collins. Nice to hear it again.
Hope the Oxy helped you with your pain, I just hope it doesn’t make your Republicated issue worse. Besides eating oatmeal like Joanne mentioned, can you eat dried prunes/figs or apricots?? Or even drink some prune juice?
Hope you day went well. That you were able to rest, eat and drink without any issues.
Good luck tomorrow with your healthcare helpers and grocery delivery.
    Take care TC.

  4. Yes, oatmeal and flax both could help.
‘Toon: Didn’t Texs want to leave, recently?
DK: Of the many nasty, nasty things dumpy did, one of the nastiest was to send non-citizen veterans away!
NYT: Why would that bastard want to share his fund of fools with anyone else?
    BFP: Wonderful!

  5. Constipation can make you feel awful but please stay away from laxatives as much as you can, dear friend.  Try to get your hands on wheat bran to add to your breakfast. Cereals like cornflakes do not work as they are over-refined and ground into too small pieces to work. The best natural thing is psyllium husk, but you have to do some research on it to avoid overdosing.

3:11 I can see from your score that you were in need of Oxycodone, dear TomCat.

Cartoon: A black page in your history.

DK: Democrats seem to be getting on top of things despite the restrictions they face in Congress, including nasty opposition from 2-3 of their own in the Senate.

NYT: I had just done a little victory dance when the news came through that the US Senate has voted overwhelmingly to confirm Merrick Garland, President Joe Biden’s nominee for Attorney-General. The bipartisan tally in the Democratic-led Senate was 70-30, with a number of Republicans including Mitch McConnell and former Judiciary Committee chairmen Lindsey Graham and Chuck Grassley joining the chamber’s Democrats in support. I was flabbergasted by the number of senior Republicans who voted along with the Democrats until I was reminded here of Trump’s recent (financial) backstabbing. My feeling is that the two are somehow connected.

BFTP: Fantastic song and beautifully sung by Judy Collins but I prefer Frank Sinatra’s version of it a tad more.

  6. I would urge you to take your Oxycodone whenever you feel the need.  (But probably try to avoid the Rush Limbaugh protocol on dosage.)

I got to hear Judy Collins twice in concert.  It was a treat!  (From listening to her albums over and over again, I can still sing a good deal of her oeuvre.  Of course I’d have NO idea how many modulations I would go through.  Then again, Nike wouldn’t care a bit.)

    • So we both have live performances in our past rlated to today’s blast!  Cool!

Some cats (and other animals) do like music and/or for their humans to sing to him.  If he does, you’re right, he would not be likely to care.  I once had a cat who would have, though.12

  7. Thanks and BUSY Hugs to all! 23

    I republicated.

  8. Great news. Glad to hear it, TC. 29
