It’s a very tired day here in the CatBox.  WWWendy and I finished our chores last night, and it should be fairly calm until Thursday.  With both a shower aide and grocery delivery day, I’ll be spending a lot of time in my chair that day.  I’m not looking forward to it.  Tuesday is a Flush you Republicans Day, but so far, I haven’t had any to flush.  Have a great day!

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:58 (average 4:36).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From NY Times: One sunny day last spring, Bridgette Craighead was dancing the Electric Slide with three police officers in the grass next to the farmers’ market. It was the first Black Lives Matter protest this rural Virginia county had ever had, and Ms. Craighead, a 29-year-old hairdresser, had organized it.

She had not known what to expect. But when the officers arrived, they were friendly. They held her signs high, and stood next to her, smiling. Later an officer brought pizzas and McDonald’s Happy Meals. They even politely ignored her cousin’s expired license plate.

This, she thought, was the best of America. Police officers and Black Lives Matter activists laughing and dancing together. They were proving that, in some small way, their Southern county with its painful past was changing. They had gotten beyond the racist ways of older people. This made her feel proud. In a photograph from that day, Sgt. Thomas Robertson is smiling, and Ms. Craighead is standing behind him, her face tilted toward the sun and her fist held high.

She did not see the officers around Rocky Mount much after that. But in early January, someone sent her a photograph. It showed Officer Jacob Fracker and Sergeant Robertson posing inside the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, the day the building was stormed by Donald J. Trump’s most fervent supporters.

At first, she did not believe it. Not her officers. But there they were, Officer Fracker giving the camera his middle finger. She confronted them on Facebook and they did not deny it. On the contrary, they were proud.

  1. Cartoon: Horrible, with countless lives lost, and a sickening period of time!
NYT: Beware of wolves in sheep’s clothing. How sad a story.
    PPC: Very well done.
    BFTP: Good tunes. Miss him.

Glad that you have an ‘off’ day, to just relax (hopefully) and get a chance to loosen/alleviate your back. Get your rest, take a nap and take care!…and Thanks, Tom.

*This just in: “I don’t care that some foolish folks thought trump was going to be inaugurated. I care that some of those foolish folk are in Congress.” ~ Robert A. ~
    2. “If you are a Vet and you attempted to overthrow democracy, your penalty should be automatically tripled. Your discharge should be changed to ‘dishonorable’ and you should be stripped of any and all benefits. No exceptions.” ~ Stone K. ~
    3. “What kind of sh-t hole ex president gets vaccinated in secret for the virus he claimed was a hoax?” ~ Jeff Tiedrich ~
    4. “Pay Senators minimum wage.” ~ GOD ~

    • TJI #1 – Not only in Congress, but Governors and other officials, both elected and unelected.
TJI #2 – While I agree in principle, I don’t think that is possible for those who have been discharged. The only provision for changing a discharge is to make it less punitive. Those who have retired, on the other hand – or Fleet Reserve (and whatever the Army and Air Force call it) can be recalled to active duty and court martialed. And I’m all for that.
      TJI #3 – A fake one?
      TJI #4 – If only!
TJI #5 – A Bible might also work.

    • TJ#2 – My response was the same. 02

  2. You certainly deserve a quiet day.Yes, tomorrow could be tough. Of course you ca’t lie down in the shower. Matbe you could work something out to spend more of your waiting time in bed, or at least on it? A doorstop of some kind?

You can listen to this, or scroll down and read it. It is an indictment of bothsiderism, with receipts, as it relates to CoViD coverage.

Cartoon – Such an ugly image, in every possible way.

NY Times – This doesn’t even make me angry, just terribly sad. But prior good behavior does not mean they don’t need to be held accountable. It’s good that they have been identified.

Other PP Good Don – You got right on this one! The good news is that people who are all vaccinated can now get together indoors without masks or social distancing. And I might add for those who can’t get to that point, if one’s glasses are fogging up, paper first aid tape across the top of the mask will prevent air from reaching the glasses, and doesn’t hurt to wear or remove.

Blast – a teeny bit late for Mardi Gras, but good any time.

  3. So, hopefully, you are getting some time to rest, and chill
    ‘Toon: The Rethuglicans wet dream!
NYT: I just finished Ibram X. Kendi’s “How To Be An Antiracist,” and he ends with the realization that “The source of racist ideas was not ignorance and hate, but self-interest. The history of racist ideas is the history of powerful policymakers erecting racist policies out of self-interest, then producing racist ideas to defend and rationalize the inequitable effects of their policies, while everyday people consume those racist ideas, which in turn sparks ignorance and hate.” pg. 230.  Consuming those racist ideas is what her “friendly” cops did.
PPC: I saw too many of those schnozzla fools of the weekend trip, and elsewhere.
BFP: I had no idea that he did a version of this.

  4. Glad that you’ve got thinks squared away at this point.

The German Anti-Semitic poster in your cartoon “Der ist Schuld am Kriege!” roughly translates to “The war is his fault!”.

Even though I’ve now gotten my first COVID vaccine shot (Pfizer), I still double-mask.  And it drives me CRAZY when I see folks w/ their masks below their nose.

  5. Cartoon: After reading Lona’s translation…Wish they’d stop finger pointing and just end the stinking wars.
NYT: Sad….one day caring, next day full of hate and violence. I’m glad that they were identified too.
PPC: Right on Don. Feel that they’re jumping the gun about masks not being necessary. I only had one, and will be getting my second one this coming Sunday. It’s the Pfizer vaccine.
BFTP: Not familiar with this one.
Happy to hear that you’ll have two days to relax, before you have to get busy again.
Hope you’re feeling better and you’re eating okay.
    Take care.

  6. If grocery delivery day puts too much a strain on your back, please let your carers know you need more help with that, TomCat. The process of letting go must be agonizing as well.

3:11 Look at those spikey fins…

Cartoon: Soon they’re going to go after all voters except Republicans.

NYT: Bridgette Craigheadhad has her hopes dashed again. Republicans never change, are best at playing the game of hypocrisy and are less trustworthy than snakes. Because snakes are not hypocritical, they are just being snakes.

PP: Excellent parody again. Sadly “If you don’t do it for me, do it for yourself” won’t penetrate the skull of the idiot that carried te banner “slaves wore masks”.

BFTP: Not familiar with Harry Nilson’s version, the irony is dripping from it.

  7. Thanks and tired Hump Day Hugs to all! 19
