It’s a busy day here in the CatBox.  I am watching the bogus, treasonous attempt by Trump*, Hawley and the Republican Reich to overthrow the government of the US.  They are trying to discard valid electoral votes for Biden, chosen based on the popular vote in those states, and replace them with bogus electoral votes for Trump*, chosen based on their obedience to their Nazi Fuhrer.  I have also been watching the Georgia Senate runoffs.  Warnock has officially won, and although Ossoff has not, he has a comfortable enough situation that I am certain that he has.  At the beginning of Campaign 2020, I predicted that Democrats would hold the House of Representatives.  Thank God I was right.  I predicted that Democrats would win the White House.  Thank God I was right.  I predicted that Republicans would hold the Senate.  Thank God I was wrong!  Tomorrow I should be in the saddle, but busy.  It’s a grocery delivery day, and I’ll have a big order, as Store to Door was off two weeks.  It’s also a WWWendy day.  She will be coming late in the afternoon.  Happy Hump Day to all!

Short Takes:

From The New Yorker: Advancing a new conspiracy theory during a rally on Monday, Donald J. Trump claimed that the United States Constitution is invalid because it was signed by dead people.

“All we’re hearing is, the Constitution this and the Constitution that,” Trump said. “I’m telling you, as sure as you’re sitting there, that every person who signed that piece of paper is dead.”

Trump said that he had his personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani investigate the signatories to the Constitution, “and he found a scandal bigger than Hunter Biden’s laptop.”

“Their signatures do not match the signatures of any living person,” he said. “Not only are these people dead, but they have been dead for a long, long time. This should never have been allowed to happen.”

Dang Andy! Is that satire? Trump’s* surprise that the founding fathers are dead is completely credible.  RESIST!!

  1. Update:

Shades of the Reichstag Fire: Apparently armed Republican Nazis have stormed the Capital.  The National Guard has been caused.  The count is shut down for now.  Legislators are sheltering in place.  Pray that God protest the Democrats and workers.  As for the Republicans, the Devil will take care of his own. 05

  2. Update:  I just watched a woman taken from the building on a gurney.  She was covered in blood.  10

    • She has died.  She may have been identified, but they are not releasing her name yet (good if they are wanting to notify family.)  WaPo says she was shot by a police officer, so she may well have been an insurrectionist.

      • I hope they follow thru with both of these articles.
Plus did you just hear that they removed tRump’s last tweet?
Plus locked his account for 12 hours. Too bad it isn’t for good.

        • Passing this on as soon as I saw it.  Well, we can hope.

    • There are also demonstrations in a umber of State capitals (including mine.)

  3. Cartoon: YIKES !!
NYer: Honestly…it does sound like real news, and dt would certainly believe this! lol
    BFTP: Excellent song!
YAY! Can’t wait for the BIG flush!!

Hopefully, Ossoff will pull through with the win, like Rev. Warnock did. Fingers crossed. Yes, I’m glad to see that you were right. .. and also, that the R’s did not get to hold the Senate. TY for your info on this. Early HI to WWWendy for tomorrow, and hope that you get all your chores done. Get your rest, and a chance to relax too. Take good, good care, and Thanks, Tom.

    2. “As record numbers of Americans are dying from Covid-19, trump isn’t on the phone trying to boost distribution of the vaccine. He’s on the phone trying to seal an election. This is beneath contempt, it is also illegal. He will leave in 13 days as the most disgraceful president in modern history.” ~ Robert Reich ~

    6. “Looking forward to sitting alongside Vice President Kamala Harris, and behind President Joe Biden at the State of the Union.” ~ Nancy Pelosi ~

    • OH, NO!!
omg…I hope that this is over quickly. Good Lord, prayers for all, and get those ID’s/Nazi’s outta there. We have no use/wont for violence!!
Thanks, Tom for the sad update. Keep the updates coming! ty

    • TJI #3 – GOOD. That may keep him in the US so he can be xcharged within an inch of his life.
TJI #6 – Yes, that should serve to palliate the bitter truth about the current state of our union.

  4. Update:  The violence from this Republican insurrection, that has been cheered on by Trump* and prominent Republican Senators and Members of Congress, appears to be under control, and the news has gone to repetition mode.  Barring something extreme, I’ll have more tomorrow.  05

  5. This just in:

BREAKING: Ossoff defeats Perdue in Georgia, handing Senate control to Democrats, NBC News projects.

    https://www.msnbc.com/

  6. I told you I might sleep through it – and I almost made it. That’s my one superstition – that things outside of my control don’t, for some reason, go well for me if I watch. Yippee for Georgia! For some reason, I expected Ossoff to do a little better than Warnoff = and I can be glad to be wrong. It looks like I may have slept long enough for Georgia, but not long enough for DC.

Here’s a great analysis of what the new House Rules package will do, and why it’s imposrant.

Cartoon – So true, in so many ways.

TNY – Yes, I saw that. It was funnier yesterday than it is today

Blast -Thank you. We needed something reassuring.

  7. Cartoon: Stinking R’s. Sick of their ugly violence.
TNY: Screw tRump and his made up stories.
BFTP: Great tune by the Byrds. We certainly need to take a turn. One in a positive manner. Our country definitely need it.
The only good news today was that the two Democrats won and now the Democrats are in control. Halleluiah.
I have been watching the breaking news all morning long.
It’s truly despicable what is currently going on today. How tRump could instigate this type of protest all because he’s a bully who can’t except the truth that he lost an election. I wish they’d prosecute him for all that he has caused today.
Listening to the bas*ard tell his followers that he’s proud and loves them, but still saying the election was stolen, to go home now that they’ve already destroyed the Capital.
Tell Wendy “hello” tomorrow. I hope you get everything taken care of when she’s there. Plus good luck with your grocery delivery tomorrow.
    Take care, Thanks TomCat

  8. The Senate is back in session.  Kelly L. has rescinded her intent to protest the EC, as has Sen. Paul, jackasses both.
Impeachment is needed, Cruz and Hawley need to be outed from congress, the leaking, and publicly farting Rudy needs to be charged with incitement, as does Hawley.
Cori Bush and Ilan Omar need all the support they can get.
Somebody, maybe “Individual#1” set up a shit-ass response to the violence.  Mike Lee, of Utah spoke well, except for his reference to the quick response of the law officers. Pence-shit said that “there were legitimate concerns” about the vote, lied in his very first sentence as he spoke to the Senate. POS!

    • The Fourteenth Amendment would allow expelling from Congress ALL the Representatives and Senators who took part in this.  And I am all for it.  Although I suppose Loeffler and Perdue don’t need the 14th to be kicked out since the voters have done that.

  9. I am so flummoxed by today’s disgrace I’m at a loss for words.

This travesty needs to be dealt with in the most harsh manner available.

I’ll say it: FUCK trying to reach across the aisle until they agree to hold their hooligan thugs accountable.

    FUCK anymore “Bothsiderisma”

    Rethuglicans OWN this illegal insurrection!

  10. I have little time to comment because I’ve been following America’s Day of Shame since I opened my AussieBC’s news pages and then alternated that with the live streaming on The NYT.

Trouble was to be expected, after Trump riling up his followers to come to DC, but I think few expected that the Capitol would be stormed, that the mob would get in (see the link below) and that blood would flow. And that they would all walk out again without, some with their trophies in hand, without anyone arresting them. Must be because there weren’t black faces among them, I suppose.

How did pro-Donald Trump protesters get into Washington DC’s heavily guarded Capitol building?

I watched many of the Senators hold their speech and it got a little boring in the end, that is until Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts took the floor. At that late hour, she grabbed my attention, unlike Jeff Merkley whose speech was good but he’s not gifted with the same gab as Liz is.

By that time they’d already voted on the objection to Arizona’s votes as follows: Cruz of Texas, Hawley of Missouri, Hyde-Smith of Mississippi, Kennedy of Louisiana, Marshall of Kansas, and Tuberville of Alabama all for objecting, 93 against. By now Majority of House Republicans support throwing out Arizona votes, 121-83. The storming of the Capitol didn’t have the same impact with GOP in the House as the Senate.

But it’s far from over, objections to Pennsylvania’s votes expected to be brought in.

    But I’m rejoicing in Warnock’s and Ossoff’s victories. 18

  11. Thanks, and busy tired hugs to all. 19
