It’s another busy day here in the CatBox, and my back is in a lot of pain.  Tomorrow is a WWWendy day, but she won’t come until late afternoon, so I’ll be in the saddle.  Last I heard my Broncos were winning 13-7.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:12 (average 5:26).  To do it, click here.  How did toy do?

Short Takes:

From Alternet: Progressives are pushing for Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to use Section 3 of the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution to avoid seating any Republican House members who have publicly supported President Donald Trump’s attempt to steal the election from Democratic President-Elect Joe Biden.

That’s because Section 3 of the 14th Amendment literally says that anyone who has tried to rebel against the Constitution after having pledged to protect it can’t hold political office. This would include any GOP House members who signed onto an amicus brief supporting Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s bogus Supreme Court case seeking to toss hundreds of thousands of votes in four swing states, so that Trump can steal a democratically decided election.

The Section reads: “No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. ”

It would be fully justified, and Pelosi ought to do it, but she won’t. No tiene los cojones!  RESIST!!

From NPR: Immigration activists are gearing up for a fight to push President-elect Joe Biden to do more to counter the measures taken by President Trump that made life more uncomfortable for the 11 million undocumented immigrants living in the county.

But they may find they get less than they hope for from the Biden administration, which finds itself having to balance the demands of activists with the inherent limits on executive powers.

Biden pledged during his campaign to use those powers to reverse many of President Trump’s most controversial actions. His plan includes a 100-day moratorium on deportations, restoring protections for young immigrants brought to the country illegally as children, and eliminating Trump’s restrictions on asylum seekers.

But some immigrant-rights groups like the Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services, Movimiento Cosecha and United We Dream want more.

Personally, I think we should happily accept whatever help the Biden administration gives immigrants and refugees. Then we should fight for more.  RESIST!!

  1. Seeing WWWendy should help. Please rest when you can. I hope the Orb treats you well.

    Cartoon – No kidding.

AlterNet – Speaker Pelosi has more huevos than I would have given her credit for a few years ago. And there is a lot of support for this (among voters I know, and among Congressfolk I suspect) soit’s not impossible. It would not succeed, but perhaps shpould be attempted anyway.

NPR – Personally, I think we should put everything we can in Georgia so that we can get Democratic measures put into law. And then I think we should push for everything we can.

Blast – Another carol for which an alternate tune exists. (More than one, actually. But this is the most common, and it’s pretty rare.)

  2. Cartoon: Gawd, isn’t that awful? With people shoplifting food for their families, and them playing with their money. How sick!! ugh!
AN: Pretty much explains what to do, as she has every right to. What traitors! They (R’s) deserve to be thrown out on their backsides. Wish she’d just do it.
NPR: I’m glad we have Biden as our next President. I have every confidence in his actions, I’m sure it’s on his list.
BoC: Such a melodious voice! Love the song!

You’ve had your back pain for a while now…I wish that it would go away for you.  Get your rest, and take good care, Tom. Hi, WWWendy! Hope all is good with you!

*This just in: “At a minimum, the 126 Republicans need to be shunned. There should be an agreement among Democrats to refuse to speak with them, or acknowledge them. Back in the old days, it was called ‘cutting’ someone who had been dishonorable.” ~ Pat G. ~ “The Speaker not seat them, either.” *Pat B.*
    2. “Obama proposes cancelling WH’s cable to get Trump to leave.” ~ Andy Borowitz ~
    3. “Democrat Rep. Bill Pascrell on Friday charged that some of the republican colleagues shouldn’t be sworn in for the next session of Congress, accusing them of violating the U.S. Constitution and attempting to demolish democracy by backing Donald Trump’s effort to overturn the November election which he lost to President-elect Joe Biden.”  ~ Margaret H. ~
    4. “One interesting aspect of the TX lawsuit was that no state that altered it’s voting procedures and voted for trump was targeted, only those voting for Biden. ~ James D. ~
    5. “The Whig Party fractured and died in the 1850’s over slavery. Will the Republican Party fracture and die in the 2020’s over democracy??” ~ Bill Kristol ~
    6. “I shudder to think where we would be if the SOB had won.” ~ John P. ~

    • oops.. forgot the score..4th quarter
      We’re @7  – da Bears @ 33!!

      • TJI ## – Bill Pascrell is pretty darned good.
TJI #5 – Quite possibly. Because then, as now, it was and is about racism. The use og the words”slavery” and “democracy,” instead of just using “racism,” just confuses the issue.

    • TJ3: I agree with Bill.
TJ6: Probably dead, since like he mentioned he wasn’t going to talk about the Covid-19 after the election. He’s done exactly that, with thousands of people dying from it daily. Still doesn’t practice or tell others to wear a mask or social distance.

  3. I hope Wendy does improve your back somehow.
The virutous rep. from NJ also notes censure expected for conduct unbecoming of the House, which it also is.  Pelosi herself made statements condemning the behavior using words that mean much like what the constitution says so I have a little hope she won’t normalize such conduct by failing to act.
Lots of silence related to immigrant policies and practices that violate both international law and anything resembling respect, morality or human rights and had racist foundations.  Sadly many of them built on foundations they inherited from the Obama administration.  This is an area he’s going to have to get pushed into taking the moral choices, including the institutional racism.

  4. ‘Toon: That and a crown and scepter!
Alternet: !No tiene los cujones!  And, by the law of unintended consequences, such an action, now, as massive as it would have to be, would inflame the republican crazies and the Qanon deluded to places we’ve not yet seen.  IMHO, it would be like playing with fire.
NPR: I agree with your tactic.  I am afraid that if he gets too much pressure, and acts radically, (too) soon  it still won’t be enough for too many of the progressives, and will lead to splintering.  But, then his current plan could do that just the same.
    I love Nat!

  5. TJI#2:  That would do it!
TJI#5: I don’t think they can fracture, they are too far gone, en masse; unless some of them take BBMM out back for a little “education.”
    TJI#6: In hell.

  6. Cartoon: Greedy rotten R’s.
AN: Hopefully the 126 R’s will get some sort of punishment one way or another.
NPR: I have confidence in Joe and Kamala to help turn around the immigration issues that tRump created and will get things back on the right track again.
    BoC: Get song by Nat.
I sure hope that your back stops hurting so much. Can’t you call the doctor? Or is your home care coming?
Maybe Wendy can massage it some. Tell her “Hello” tomorrow.
Please get some rest. Take care. Thanks TomCat

  7. I’m so sorry your back is hurting you more and more. Not a good sign but it should be answered by a higher dosage of your pads if you ask for it.

    2:51 Tooth breaker, more likely.

Cartoon: Is this why speak of the filthy rich? I don’t see how you can get much cleaning out of that?

AN: This discussion was a bit of a déjà vu for me; didn’t we have some talk of treason of (newly) elected Congressmen in 2018? Nothing happened then, so nothing will happen now, but a good round of public naming and shaming would be appropriate. Nancy could remind all of those on the list of their shameful act and ask them to read this section out loud before they renew/take their vows, making sure that all 126 have a clear sense of what is happening and why.

NPR: Undocumented immigrants will be just one of those of a long list of measures Biden will be under pressure to rectify but won’t be able to unless Democrats have the Senate majority to support him. If both seats in Georgia do not come to Democrats, Biden is as powerless as Obama was in his second term.

  8. We are certainly on the same page in Georgia.  I was going to send money today but my card got compromised, so it won’t be before the 15th.  (I don’t think waiting till the 31st is the best idea.

  9. Hope your back starts feeling better soon.  Am I safe in assuming your sharing this info with your healthcare team?

It will be interesting to see if anything comes of Section 3.  I wonder if Pelosi will even address it.  It’d be nice to have 126 do-over elections to replace them – that would really get Trump’s goat!

  10. Thanks and tired Hugs to all! 19
