It’s a busy day here in the CatBox.  Diana is coming this morning to check on me, so as long as I have to be up, here is a full Open Thread.  Tomorrow please expect only a minimal Personal Update.  I go to the hospital tomorrow afternoon for my next infusion.  I’ll take the TriMet Lift Bus to the Hospital.  WWWendy will get me home between 6:00 and 6:30, after which we have a full WWWendy day to do.  Therefore it’s likely that I’ll be too tired on Wednesday to do much then either.  Oh God, it’s Monday!

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:14 (average 5:00).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Trump* Virus Update:

1005TrumpVirusMap

US Cases: 7,639,211
US Deaths: 214,635
Plus all the Trump*/GOP plague murders Republicans are hiding from us

Short Takes:

From Alternet: The case for Medicare for All was once again made by the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic, Sen. Ed Markey tweeted on Sunday, after Republican politicians were able to check themselves into hospitals shortly after announcing they had tested positive for Covid-19.

Markey noted that throughout the coronavirus pandemic, in which more than 7.4 million cases have been detected and more than 209,000 people in the U.S. have died, people have attempted to get care at hospitals after testing positive and showing worsening symptoms, only to be turned away and “told only to come back when they could not breathe.”

“Now politicians are checking into hospitals as a ‘precaution.’ Healthcare should be a right, not a privilege,” Markey wrote. “We need Medicare for All.”

The senator’s statement came a day after former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, a member of the president’s debate prep team this past week, announced he was checking himself into Morristown Medical Center after testing positive on Saturday.

“While I am feeling good and only have mild symptoms, due to my history of asthma we decided this is an important precautionary measure,” Christie tweeted.

This is so typical of RepubliCare, the Republican replacement for ObamaCare. Rich Republicans get care. The rest of us get the RepubliCare Death Benefit. We get to die.  RESIST!!

Wonderful, as always, Don! Unless Trump* and the entire Republican Reich are relegated to oblivion, it will be the end of the world… period!  RESIST!!

  1. Cartoon: Slinging mo’ mud, I see.
TVU: Confirmed, 1864. Active, 137. Recovered, 1697. Deaths, 30. Not good. At all.
AN: Medicare for all! That means everyone! Sad that they don’t see it that way though.
    PPC: Spot on! Love this.
MSNBC: They all lie, to make stuff up for this id. I got sick seeing him in the back seat of the SUV, while endangering the Secret Service, and others involved with protecting him. How callous, and sick of him to see him wave for HIS benefit. ugh!
BFTP: Haven’t heard this in ages. Good song!

Hi, Diana! Best to you as you get your infusion, and safely going to and fro. Try not to over-do your chores…and take it easy all the way around. Take good care, and rest up, you’ve got a busy week.

*This just in: “Trump looking forward to showing gratitude to supporters by infecting them. (his drive by from Walter Reed Medical Hospital.) ~ Andy Borowitz ~
    2. re dt – “All cruelty springs from weakness.” ~ Senaca ~
    3. ‘Covid’ – “It affects virtually nobody.” ~ dt ~
    4. “Why does the president get to write off $70,000 for hair styling, but teachers only get to write off $250 for school supplies??” ~ B. L. ~
    5. “Nothing says ‘I work hard’ to America.. more than signing blank sheets of paper. But the real question is whether it was the same ‘magical sharpie’ the president uses for his hurricane forecasting.” ~ Dan Rather ~
    6. “A sick old man pretending to sign blank pieces of paper is the perfect metaphor for the entire Trump presidency.” ~ Jeff Tiedrich ~

  2. By all means rest and keep rested as best you can. Best to Diana today and WWWendy tomorrow.

    Cartoon – So true.

TVU – Yup. My health insurance company (Part D) just sent me a free mask.

Much gratitude to the citizens of Massachusetts for electing Ed to the Senate. I wish every state were as responsible (as mine is not – yet.) But it needs to be said, and understood, that Republican politicians do not see anything wrong with the condition of health care as it is – with the possible exception that it is currently too tough on insurance companies, in their opinion. When we can get a consensus that it is wrong, and that it needs to be fixed, perhaps we can accomplish something.

    Other PP – Ummm – I don’t feel fine.

MSNBC – Rachel has had Dr. Emanuel on lately, and so has at least one other MSNBC host. I would trust him. As for Trump*, I will never not believe that he didn’t know he was positive before the debate. Otherwise, why did the whole Trump* family arrive too late to be tested (and then lied about it)? I’m sure that Joe knows that too and will be continuing to test and take precautions. Now, be aware that it is one of the easiest things in the world to fire a doctor. I’ve done it myself. The only authority doctors have over their adult patients is based on the trust of the patient in their superior knowledge. Does that sound like Trump*? This is where the term AMA (against medical advice) comes from. I don’t like to insult cats by comparing even a fictional one to Trump*, but the fact is, “he will do what he do do and there’s no doing anything about it.” Doctors who are lying for him are doing so in an attempt to hold onto some influence over how his actions affect his health. That works with some patients. It likely won’t with him. Now, with regard to the lies continuing if he dies … maybe, but not for long. There are several Trump* impersonators. None is that good. His tweets can be mimicked effectively, but no one will believe he is alive and well after a certain point if he is not on TV and visible.

BFT – Not familiar with song or group, sorry.

  3. Cartoon — If the Squatter had his way, he’d nuke it!

The Squatter Virus —  . . . and the Squatter’s beat goes on! . . . and on! . . . and on! . . . and on!  The Squatter can say when he dies “I did it my way!”  (To be clear, I do not wish death from COVID for the Squatter.)

AlterNet — I remember 40 years ago when I was teaching Sunday School to junior high school aged kids, a father dropped off his 3 kids and then went home.  Fortunately, I had only one of his kids in my class.  When I asked the child to help with our project, she said she didn’t have to help because her father said I was not a paid teacher and therefore I had no authority.  How Republican of him!  I think it was the Republican focus on money that dredged up the memory.  Can’t have Medicare for all because that might take away care from those who can pay.  Personally, I like my Canadian universal healthcare.  It is not perfect, but we work on its shortcomings, and it is much, much better than no healthcare.  Senator Markey is correct — good healthcare is a human right.

MSNBC — My guess is that there is so much confusion because the Squatter does not want to look weak.  We all know how he feels about that!  He sat in the limo and boarded Marine One, both times as a confirmed COVID patient, not wearing a face mask and endangered the lives of those charged with protecting him. He could be half dead and he would still insist on doing these things under his own steam and with no mask.

The quote from Seneca in Pat’s TJI is so telling about the Squatter and so true:

“2. re dt – “All cruelty springs from weakness.” ~ Senaca ~ “

On top of that, he attended an event in NJ after knowing Hicks was positive and knowing that he could be positive as well. He is selfish (narcissists are by definition) and cruel as he exposed so many people to COVID. Their money will not protect them from COVID!

Parody Project — Good one but thank goodness for the captioning.

  4. Cartoon: Yep, dirty rotten R’ts.
TVU: Keeps climbing.  48,660 cases, 803 deaths.
Alternet: What do these idiots, (the R’s) have against giving people medical care. The clown in the office gets top care and disobeys the rules, going for a fun run to wave at supporters, then walks out of the hospital earlier than he’s suppose to. People get Covid and go to the hospital and lucky to come out alive, since they don’t get top medications offered to them. Something sure is wrong, it must change.
PPC: tRump is sick is out to destroy the world.
MSNBC: Like I mentioned above, he gets top quality medical care and doesn’t obey the doctors. He wants them to tell us what he wants us to know….nothing but lies. Shameful that he makes them look like fools too.
BOP: I remember the tune. Wasn’t one of my favorites, but would still listen if it came on the radio.
Hope your visit with Diana went well.
Best of luck with your visit tomorrow. Hope the infusion treatment goes well. Tell Wendy “Hello”
    Take care. Thanks TomCat

  5. “CAT” should have been better armed!

(I would have NO problems seeing Donnie go down in flames – whether by COVID or Cat Attack.)

  6. I wasn’t sure when your next infusion would be, or if there were any more to come, TomCat, but now I know. Good luck with it tomorrow. How many are you expected to have, btw?

3:24 You’d be able to rest comfy on that, TomCat, if you could get on/off easily.

    Cartoon: Mud? That isn’t mud…

TVW: And now it’s going to get even worse.

Alternet: Markey is of course spot on. It is time these Republican politicians are evicted from the alter-reality bubble they’ve created for themselves and their privileged cronies. Vote them all out and make sure ObamaCare isn’t abolished.

PP: Excellent work, Don, but it has been the end of the world as we know it for a while. About four years, I recon.

MSNBC: What else could we expect when so many people are lying, uncoordinated, through their teeth to cover Trump’s and their own a$$. He was late for the debate with Biden, deliberately missing its preliminary testing that Wednesday and the rapid onset and meriad of treatments point to an onset before Wednesday morning. Trump is worse than Typhoid Mary, enangering people’s lives because he just doesn’t care. Mary did so because she needed to work or starve to death.

BFTP: Band and song a first for me.

  7. Thanks and Hurry Hugs! 26
