It’s another tired day here in the CatBox, but at least I have a complete Open Thread, today.  The esophageal problems I’m having interfere with my sleep, so I might have to change my name to Ulysses, so you can call me useless for short. Winking smile  Tomorrow please expect no more than a Personal Update because it’s a morning WWWendy day.  It’s also a holy day in the Church of the Ellipsoid Orb.  The Buccaneers are visiting my Broncos, but the game will not be televised here.  This Wednesday would one of you please cover Tuesday night, when Biden debates, and Trump* masdebates? Have a great weekend.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

US Cases: 7,247,550

Plus thousands of Trump* GOP murders Republicans are hiding from us

SCROTUS (Republican anti-Constitutional Venereal Disease) Update:

If she promises to recuse and gets confirmed, she will not recuse. Otherwise, she would not be a Republican.

This is what she offers!

Short Takes:

From The New Yorker: As Donald J. Trump refuses to commit to a peaceful transfer of power in January, former President Barack Obama suggested that cancelling the White House’s cable-TV account could induce the President to leave.

“This is a man who enjoys watching television,” Obama told reporters. “What if, on Inauguration Day, he picks up the remote and nothing comes on?”

“This seems like the most peaceful way to get him to go,” Obama said.

Obama also said that, in order to avoid a constitutional crisis, the White House’s supply of Diet Coke could also be cut off, but added, “I don’t think it will come to that.”

“Once it dawns on him that there’s no cable, his days will stretch out before him in a vista of emptiness,” Obama said. “No ‘Fox & Friends.’ No Tucker Carlson. And no Shark Week.”

Dang, Andy! This is Obama’s best idea yet! It’s even better than Obamacare!  RESIST!!

From YouTube (MSNBC Channel): How Far Is Trump Willing To Go To Stay In Office?

For Trump* staying in power is a life or death issue. He will ruin as many of OUR lives and cause as many of OUR deaths as it takes. RESIST!!

From YouTube (a blast of past protest): Draft Register [should be Resister]

Ah the memories!… Protest like the 60s! RESIST!!

  1. I will never call you “Useless.”
    ‘Toon: The Republican way!
    TVU: Zipping past 7 mill.!
SCROTUS: Dogma will rule, I, for one, am sure.  The agenda that seeks her placement on SCROTUS knows no ethical constraints, sees the end as justifying the means, and any assurances, as you point out, to the contrary, will fall by the wayside very quickly.
New Yorker: Just brilliant!  Sometimes the simplest solution is clearly the best.
MSNBC: Trump is willig to go to whatever lengths it might take, to stay out of jail, and. in a place from which he can continue to grift the entire country.
BOP: Love me some Steppenwolf!  Anyone who wishes to donate to the War Resisters League, can be my guest.

  2. Cartoon: Yikes!
    TVU: County: Confirmed: 1814, active: 189, recoveries: 1596 deaths: 29. We’ve been going up…
SCROTUS pick: How unfortunate. Hate to see this happening. dt & barr must be tickled red! I’d pass on the offering from her too. UGH !
NYer: He hasn’t done anything except watch tv, eat, call faux on the phone, does rallies and talks nasty, and walks the halls. I sure do wish it were sooner that he leaves though. …lol
MSNBC: Who in the sam hill is he talking to, or being talked at, about this? Is it talking to his Faux and Friends or someone like Daddy Vladdy or Steven Miller or Barr putting ideas in his head? dt watches tv over 8 hours a day, ….I don’t see him coming up with this idea all by himself…imho. He does nothing now, and will continue to do nothing, except incur violence and discontent. Scary, nonetheless…get him OUT!
BOP: Words of truth, good tune.

You will never be called any names. Period. We play the Steelers @noon tomorrow. I hope that you start feeling better. Get your rest, & nap. Take good, good care, and Thanks, Tom.

*This just in: “Saving our Planet is now a communications challenge.” ~ Sir David Attenborough ~
    2. “Shorter version of Trump’s Florida speech this past week….’ME, ME, ME !’ ~ Sean C. ~
    3. dt refusing to leave office – “America is stronger than just one bloated old man.” ~ Aravind H. ~
    4. “dt has a long history of throwing his name on things others have built. It looks like he’s tryng to do that now to Obama Care.” ~ Dan Rather ~
    5. “The trump administration took 300 MILLION Dollars from the CDC mid-pandemic so they could make ads with Dennis Quaid saying ‘trump did a good job’. ~ Ian S. ~

  3. Cartoon – That’s certainly true.

TVU – Seems like we just his 7 million and it’s already 7 and a quarter. Of course, that’s what “exponential” means.

SCROTUS – Someone pointed out that a coney is a hot dog. Amy Hot Dog Barrett sounds pretty good. But a coney is also a small, undomesticated animal in the lapine family, and Amy Wild Hare Bennett sounds even better to me.

Andy – I do think we’d also need to block his Twitter account. That would be the straw. No TV, and no way to complaim about it.

MSNBC – See Bill Maher for more, including Bernie’s take

BOP – Don’t you wish it was that simple today!

  4. “Useless?”  Oh, I think not, TC.  How about ordering the construction of a large HORSE and send it ”personal
attention only” to the White House?  laughing

  5. 1109 confirmed cases, 4 deaths for my county.  CA in general has had better mortality than most of the country, with San Francisco showing the best among large cities. My county’s death data a bit more lagging from others since local hospital cannot serve ICU level cases, who get transferred somewhere else.  I know Bay Area hospitals were doing the positioning to keep weight off the lungs (i.e., not on the back) and using steroids for inflammation, for example, earlier than many hospitals in other parts of the country.  Also, cities and the State developed extra hospital capacity in advance of a surge in high population areas, so Imperial County in the desert down at by the Mexican border the only one that ran out of bed capacity (some in the agricultural Central Valley came close).  Testing still lower with reagent shortage that now I blame, in part at least, on the Pentagon not spending the $1 billion for this type of help to the country.
Thanks TC for the dose of AB!  As long as your blog continues, the word useless cannot apply.  Good luck with your Broncos.
The nominee’s affiliation with what those who left call a cult and their history of calling women leaders handmaidens is deeply disturbing…as are these times in so many ways–leading one journalist to speak out in brave fashionhttps://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2020/11/what-if-trump-refuses-concede/616424/

    • Pam, that is a BRILLIANT idea!  Let’s have a conversation about who to put into it!

Yes, certainly never useless, and als never hated (“Ulysses” comes from “Odysseus” which comes from “hatred” in Greek; it has only survived through the Latin “odium.”)

  6. think of you everyday, TC….comfort and strength to you

  7. Useless? Is the fentanyl clouding your judgement, TomCat? Useless? Never!

3:39 You own it, but there’s precious little to eat in that puzzle.

Cartoon: In Rwanda, they didn’t use many guns. Machetes usually did the job, but that’s OK with Republicans too.

Update: They should put up linear charts for a while, in the staircase of some tall public building somewhere, and see if the reality of so many deaths finally hits home.

CNN: Well, Trump wasn’t fickle this time and has nominated Amy Coney Barrett, the worst nomination he could make when he shouldn’t have nominated at all. The signal her nomination gives to 50.8% of the US population is loud and clear, whether she’s appointed or not: females are second rate citizens. Any woman voting for Trump now should be deeply ashamed of herself.

TNY: Also cancelling his telephone data account would be in order. No TV news through apps, no Tweets, no private calls to his crony friends. He wouldn’t last a weekend.

MSNBC: How far? ALL THE WAY. You are possibly looking at the start of a civil war while in the midst of a global pandemic and a global economic recession.

BOP: I know of Steppenwolf (Born to be Wild) but I’ve never heard this protest song before.

  8. I will certainly add my 2 cents WRT Tuesday’s debate.

It won’t be comprehensive – but at least it will be something.

I’m amazed how many articles have appeared offering suggestions and advice how Biden should approach the debate.  Most seem pretty sound to me.

  9. No way would we ever call you useless. You’ve always done so much for us with all that you do.
I haven’t had much fun here for the past week. The Internet/Wifi has been a real problem, so I called Spectrum to go back with them for my television service. While the guy was out today, he replaced the Wifi modem, that’s supposedly better. Plus hooked up the television service. I’ll have to remove the Direct TV ones. Will call and cancel my subscription with them.I’ve been trying to get things back into order ever since the installation. So will be back into action tomorrow, unless I have anymore glitches occur.
I have to catch up to Joanne’s postings too. I did Nameless’ one last night, but I kept dropping the Wifi. So after I did it, I gave up with other ones.
Hope you get to feeling better. That you get some sleep.
    Take care. Thanks TomCat

    • Bummer about your service, Colleen.
Hope that you get it back to your liking.
We have Spectrum too. It’s expensive all the way around, but they’re pretty good about fixing problems in a timely manner. Here anyways.
      Take care.

    • I can certainly sympathize.  I have cable DSL, and it will drop out when I least expect it for a few seconds or several minutes.  CenturyLink was supposed to send a tech Friday, and he/she may have been here (they said he/she might not need to come inside), but if so, whatever was done didn’t fix it.  So back to the drawing board.  Sigh.

      • It’s frustrating, JD. I go to post, get in the middle of my response, and it’s lost. I hope your service gets better. I also changed my mobile phone to Spectrum too. So it’s been fun trying to set up the new phone, transfer data from the old service, and download updates and set network/Wi-Fi too.
Again, Good luck with yours. JD.

  10. Thanks and Hugs to all. 26

JD and Colleen I hope your Internet access is squared away.

Guys, that Ulysses, Useless bit was a joke.  You saw the wink, right?
