The State of Oregon and the City of Portland have been cracking down on the violent misconduct by our Republican dominated police department, so criminal Fuhrer Trump* sent us his own gestapo to federalize abuse of power by police.
Federal law enforcement shot and severely injured a protester Saturday night during demonstrations in front of the federal courthouse in downtown Portland.
Donavan LaBella, 26, was shot in the head by what friends and witnesses said was an impact munition.
Videos of the incident posted online brought swift condemnation from some local leaders, including both of Oregon’s U.S. Senators, who demanded answers from the federal government, and City Commissioner Jo Ann Hardesty, who asked that federal troops leave Portland immediately.
Mayor Ted Wheeler, in a statement released just before 9 p.m. Sunday, called on federal law enforcement to abide by the same standards as Portland officers in using less-lethal weapons against protesters.
In one video, LaBella is seen pushing a canister of smoke or tear gas away from his feet across the street from the Mark O. Hatfield federal courthouse. Moments later, LaBella returns to holding a speaker over his head with both hands. Shots of impact munitions can be heard, and LaBella collapses to the ground, dropping the speaker…

Note that neither Donovan LaBella nor the other protestors did anything to threaten Trump’s* Republican Nazi pigs in any way. This is simply a criminal assault by Republican gestapo against citizens exercising their right to protest.

After posting my Open Thread comment, I had to leave my desk for a bit but kept thinking about Joe Hill. I appreciate the love that veterans are starting to get for their sacrifices o foreign shores, protecting us (presumably) from the influence of foreign powers. But could we also get some love for those in the early part of the last century who sacrificed so much protecting us from our own gilded-age government? And also for those who are sacrificing so much even now to protect us from our second-gilded-age government? Or is that too much to ask?
OMG…this is horrible, tragic, and could have been avoided! by NOT being violent, and NOT shooting anyone.
I hope that his eye will be allright, his head injury will heal, and that he will come through this.

Shameful that innocent protesters are being targeted for no legitimate reason.
There was no reason to bring these flipping federal law enforcers into the demonstration at all.
I pray that Donovan will recover, without future medical issues.

Who the frack sent federal law enforcement in, to begin with? Were they asked to intervene by Mayor Ted Wheeler, who didn’t ask them to leave, as City Commissioner Jo Ann Hardesty did, but abide by the rules?
The shooter is obviously going to claim self-defence again; against the “bomb” Donovan was going to throw. Thank goodness there are videos about which show that Donovan was peacefully holding a speaker above his head for several minutes before he was shot.
I hope with all my heart Donovan will survive and recover fully, but Trump should be held accountable for sending in his murderous brownshirts. Though that would probably serve him well, making him look good in the eyes of his base and diverting attention from his equally murderous handling of the pandemic.
