It’s a hot busy day, here in the CatBox, with 89° forecast.  WWWendy is coming, and we have lots to do to get me ready for her five day trip.  Have a great day!

Today’s took me 3:00 (average 5:10):  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Trump* Virus Update:

0528TrumpVirusMap

Cases: 1,747,781
Deaths: 102,197
Recovered: 490,256

Short Takes:

From The New Yorker: In an escalation of his spat with Roy Cooper, the Democratic governor of North Carolina, Donald Trump is demanding that the 2020 Republican National Convention relocate from Charlotte to Moscow.

“North Carolina has been difficult every step of the way, and meanwhile Moscow has always been very helpful to me,” Trump wrote, in one of a series of early-morning tweets.

Additionally, Trump argued, moving the R.N.C. to Moscow would save the Republicans millions in airfare. “The most important people working on our 2020 campaign will already be there,” he tweeted.

Well, Andy, I see you’re doing straight news again. Is Bought Bitch Midnight Moscow Mitch dancing for glee?  RESIST!!

From Alternet: Trump and Republicans don’t want mail-in voting this November because it blows up a couple of their most effective voter suppression schemes.

In presidential elections dating back to 2000, there’s been noticeable media coverage of long lines in majority-black precincts; commentators sometimes wonder out loud why people would have to wait in line 8 hours to vote in, for example, inner city Ohio in 2004 or Milwaukee in the 2020 primaries.

Leading up to Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp’s contest with Stacey Abrams in 2018, the Atlanta Constitution-Journal documented how 8 percent of the state’s polling places had been recently closed, hitting rural black areas particularly hard. The Washington Post chronicled how broken voting machines—and the long lines they create—were largely confined to downtown Atlanta and black suburbs and rural areas.

The effect, of course, is to discourage voters from showing up or staying in line, particularly those people who are paid by the hour and have to take time off work to vote.

“The strongest tool Americans have to prevent Republican attempts at voter suppression is mail-in voting.”

In a Republican Reich, voting while Black or Latino is a felony.  RESIST!!

From YouTube (a blast from the past): People Are Strange – The Doors [The Very Best Of The Doors]

Ah… the memories!  RESIST!!

  1. Cartoon: A most worthy organization! A light in the darkness. Won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1977.
TVU: Austin has jumped, unfortunately. Health officials now have said that there are three new deaths. We are at the same number(s).
NYer: What a novel idea, Andy!! Great suggestion too. Can dt live there too?
AN: We mail in our ballots. Have been for several years now. Best thing we ever did, and hopefully others will see the advantage to mail-in voting.
BFTP: Cool as heck song….love the Doors.
Hope that you get all your chores done, and get a chance to take a kitty nap later on. Best to you, Wendy! for a safe trip!! Take good care, and Thanks! Tom.

*This just in: “ObamaGATE makes Watergate look like small potatoes!!” *donald trump.  “Are those the same potatoes Virginia farmers need guns to protect? Trump had better start worrying about protecting his own potatoes! ~ Wagner K. ~
    2. Large campaign button: “1/20/2021 – The End of an Error.” ~ Nancy B. ~
    3. “I don’t think there’s anyone who would say at the point, that tens of thousands of people should come together for a political convention, now matter how great an ego trip it is.” ~ Nancy Pelosi ~
    4. “Trump loves to pick fights with the dead. Look how long he kept slandering McCain after he passed away.” ~John P. ~
    5. “A woman raised her middle finger at dt’s motorcade as the motorcade was on it’s way to the Trump Nat’l Golf course. This woman spoke for millions of Americans. Thank YOU.” ~ SaG. ~

    • I think your 1/20/2021 is a more accurate date – but I saw one using election day:

      • I watched that in horror, Nameless.
My immediate reaction was….such a horrible man, and such a repulsive act towards a disabled man.
He was sickening then, and is sickening still !!!

  2. I hope you get everything done expeditiously and without tiring yourself too much.  I’m sure Wendy will be gone before you see this, but likely you’ll have known in advance we wish her a safe and happy trip, and already told her so.

If anyone is a fan of George Takei, his musical “Allegiance” is going to be available on line through “Broadway on Demand” for ten days staring May 29. Specifically ON may 29, there will also be a sort of an on-line virtual meet-and-greet with George, Lea Salonga, and a few other cast members a half hour before the performance. Registering with Broadway on Demand (free) is needed to watch it on your computer, but no app is needed. There are apps available if you want to watch it on a phone (you would need better eyes than mine.) All the times are EDT, and they are all at the link – and it will be streamed live, so they arnot flexible. But if you can see it Friday (with a reservation) you will receive a free digital download of it including some additional video. If you are not familiar with it, the Wikipedia article will give you as much background as you get with any musical theater going in, maybe a little more.

OK, this news made me cry. Both glad and sad.

Cartoon – 1961. There were still some human Republicans then. But I expect a lot of them even then had their heads explode.

Map – Oregon and Colorado are meeting all but one of the reopening goals – we are still not doing enough testing. That may not be on the government, but on the availability of tests (and the willingness of citizens to be tested – both states have a good chunk of covidiots, despite a sane majority.)

TNY – BBM is probably frantically trying to convince the media that he meant Moscow, Idaho.

AlterNet – While anyone with two brain cells to rub together can see this, I’m still glad there are articles on it, because too many people don’t have those two brain cells(or are not willing to rub them together.)

Past – One of the best songs about what it feels like to be “othered” that I’ve ever heard or heard of.

This joke is dedicated to those of us (myself included) who are struggling with typos these days:
A priest, a minister and a rabbit and walk into a bar. The bartender asks the rabbit, “What’ll you have?”. The rabbit says “I dunno, I’m only here because of Autocorrect”.

  3. ‘Toon: Way to Go!
    TVU: Not a good sign.
New Yorker: North Carolina showing some smarts.  Putin’s invitation coming soon?
    Alternet: Of course!
    Doors: Great!
    Joanne, I love your joke.
This just in: Anyone who buys into the Obmagate story, by definition does not have those 2 brain cells to rub together!

  4. I supported Stacey Abrams when she ran for GA Governor, and was really pissed when I learned that Kemp was sitting on approximately 53,000 voting registration forms. He was Secretary of State at the time – boys and girls, can you say “conflict of interest”? He didn’t win the election, he STOLE it. Period. Plain and simple. Georgia could have made history with our nation’s first female African-American governor, but this crotch-scratcher played dirty.

If tRump is re-elected by some anti-miracle, a whole lot of people are going to smell a rat – maybe enough, and the right ones, for there to be trouble–

  5. Have a wonderful and much-deserved trip, Wendy, but leave any viruses behind when you return, please. I hope you, TomCat, have some backup phone numbers to call should anything go amiss, goodness forbids.

3:07 But look at that face; don’t you dare goop him, TomCat!

Cartoon: Not since its founding but I have been a donor since I was 18. Sadly Amnesty’s work is more important than ever.

Update: Doesn’t look like many states are opening up any time soon.

TNY: Too true, Andy, too true.

Alternet: Living in a country now that has mandatory voting, reading about the sabotage of the voting of minorities, i.e. of Democratic voters, still manages to shock me each time I do. All voting should be by mail, with extra, guarded mailboxes put up in minority areas.

BFTP: Great quirky (strange) song that hits its message home.

  6. Cartoon: Great organization.
TVU: Still keeps climbing here. Rising again in states that have ease up their rules.
TNY: Most workers already there…..Ain’t that the truth?? Maybe tRump and his cronies can all be there forever.
Alternet: tRump will try do whatever it takes to cheat. I’m for mail in voting. It’s nice to be able to take your time reading over the props and the bio on who’s running.
BFTP: Great group. Always was a fan of the Doors.
Hope you and Wendy had a good visit and got everything you needed to get done. I hope she has a safe trip.
    Take care.
    Thanks TomCat

  7. Thanks and VERY tired TGIF Hugs to all! 19
