The other day, I relabeled COVID-19 to make it’s name descriptive of the principal cause of its spread in the US and the deaths that the pandemic has caused and shall cause here. It is now the Trump* virus.

John is spot on in everything he said, save one. COVID-19 is not the corona virus. It’s the Trump virus.
Yesterday, Oregon Health authorities announced a third case of Trump virus, unrelated to the first two. This victim attended a basketball game in Eastern Oregon just before he tested positive.
As I go to the hospital for chemo and radiation treatments, and have long waits there for the TriMet Lift bus, I’ll be at much higher risk than most. If it kills me, send the bill for my funeral to the asshole in the White House.
RESIST!!

Even if the virus does die off in warmer weather (unlikely since Iran is not exactly a deep freeze), then my part of the country is screwed. It surely doesn’t get warm in April here. In fact, we’ve been known to have sleet and snow as late as the third week of May. As far as masks – Yes. Healthcare providers are now having to lock up masks because patients are stealing them!
When similar diseases have “died off” during hot weather, they were just dormant. When cool weather returned, they came back with a vengeance.
Be sure to take a travel-size container of hand sanitizer – although my experience is that there will be dispensers all over the place, but it may not be easy for you to get to them.
If you can no longer find it, you can make your own:
Homemade Hand Sanitizer Ingredients
2/3 cup 99% rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol) OR ethanol (65% Ethyl Alcohol)
1/3 cup aloe vera gel (actually optional, but it makes application easier)
Mix ingredients.
You can get by w/ a rubbing alcohol that’s > than 60% – but the more concentrated the better

In Seattle, toilet paper is flying off the shelves like mad. Why toilet paper? Don’t ask me, Dixie Darlin’.
All I can think of is they are trying to stock up for potential quarantine.
First of all, you can be sure the hospital will do everything to sanitize the place as well as it possibly can, both for the protection of patients AND its staff. The TriMet Liftbus may be the place where you should have your own precautions in place. Does the driver or assistant help you getting on, coming within 3 ft of you? Wipe the surfaces you touch before you do and don’t touch your mouth.
Second, people are warned here not to overuse hand sanitation; it kills the natural skin resistance/barrier. But you’re going to use it most on your treatment days, when you’re at home you can wash your hands well instead, so the risk of overuse is low, I should think.
It’s been a long time since I last saw John Oliver, which I now understand because I had to set up a VPN connection before I could see it. Great show, both very informative and very funny.
We’re still in above-average temperatures for late summer here > 32 C, 90 F, and COVID-19 is merrily multiplying here too, so Trump’s “warmer weather” theory is 🐄💩.
The Iranian government handled the outbreak there atrociously, that is not to be denied. But they’re at a loss because their healthcare system is atrocious too. That is mainly because there are no medical supplies, instruments, machines etc. coming in because of the extensive boycott. And guess who is responsible for this boycott?
I’d heard that about hand sanitizer too. I keep some at my desk and use it mostly for surface cleaning.
I hate to tell you, but when I had my gall bladder removed and had pancreatitis, I was infected with MERS in the hospital. It’s related to Trump virus, bit more deadly.
I had the same thought – that American hospitals are notorious germ factories – but maybe they do it better in Oz and the Netherlands.
