Kudos to One Republican

This is a rare opportunity for me.  Republicans and kudos are normally akin to Republicans on oxygen… oxymoronic.  However, on those so rare occasions that Republicans do what is right for the American people, instead of goose-stepping in blind lock-step behind some billionaire or their criminal Fuhrer, Trump*, fairness demands that I give them credit for it.

0206Romney

Showing clear emotion in his voice, Republican Sen. Mitt Romney of Utah revealed on the Senate floor Wednesday that he will vote to convict President Donald Trump in the impeachment trial.

With the announcement, Romney became the only member of the president’s party expected to vote against Trump. He will approve the article of impeachment charging Trump with “abuse of power” in his effort to induce Ukraine to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden, a political opponent while voting against the “obstruction of Congress” charge.

He said the president is “guilty of an appalling abuse of public trust.”

Early in the speech, he became choked up when talking about his personal faith and paused to gather himself. He called the choice “the most difficult decision I have ever faced.”

“The grave question the Constitution tasks senators to answer is whether the president committed an act so extreme and egregious that it rises to the level of a ‘high crime and misdemeanor,’” Romney said. “Yes, he did.”…

Here is his complete speech announcing his intent.

Senator Mitt Romney to vote to convict President Trump on Abuse of Power

Thank you, Senator Romney.  Kudos!

  1. Gawd…..I listened to what he had to say…I got choked up.

Shame that there aren’t more of you, Mr. Romney.
    It’s a rarity now…like an extinct animal. (R’s)

You will be remembered for doing and saying the right thing.
And, “yes he did.” (dt).  We know it too.

  2. What chokes me up is that it has come to this – Mitt Romney – MITT ROMNEY – is the best Republican human being in the Senate. This wasn’t always the case. I remember Mark Hatfield, for just one. Trying to run the government with two parties, the politicians of one of which are virtually all corrupt, while the politicians of the other are virtually all not corrupt – I’m not sure this is even a viable model to run a democracy. I believe it is true that a LOYAL opposition is a necessity for true democracy. It’s hard to be glad that one is old.

You are absolutely correct that any Republican who does the right thing deserves positive recognition, and lots of it. It’s too bad it happens so damned seldom.

  3. I listened to his speech and gained new respect for this man.
God bless you, Mitt Romney. Your father would be proud of you.

  4. Romney is in a league of his own!

  5. One certainly has to admire Romney for his principled stand.  Donald Judas Trump has betrayed the country with his self serving power grab, corruption and flagrant lies which abound.  Likewise, he has already started his vendetta against Romney at the Prayer Breakfast as he also continued attacks against Nancy Pelosi there too.

I hope that the American people are patriots enough to show Donald Judas Trump the door out of public office.  For that matter, I hope they will throw every Republican out of office in due course, save Mr Romney of course. One does not have to agree with everything he says or does, but if he can demonstrate his logic and principles in his decisions, he should at least be respected.

  6. Thanks for this, TC. Nice to see (also everyone’s comments) & NOT the SOTU/STFU or the “prayer” (LOL)breakfast. I had to stop listening to the vengeance is mine tirade bc my blood pressure. Also, thought they would break into “SEIG HEIL chants!    Three cheers for Senator Romney!  Thank you! Kinda hard to believe(may be some peeps turning in their graves w/me saying that.)      I resumed my solo protest today,w/”Trump Lies” sign;made a new yard sign “Con Man”hung next to balloons of orange baby in his diaper.  Didn’t see any middle fingers for once but the neighbor guy 2 houses down came to chat, had never met him in over 6 yrs.    He admitted he voted for Judas(I knew he had a yard sign, tho it was in the trashcan b4 the election),but supports my right to have my signs.     He was surprised to hear about all the harassment, names, court case, etc. I’ve dealt w/ for silently dissenting.  Don’t hear that much these days.  Also, he said he’d research re: all the other highly developed nations have single-payer/national health insurance, since I brought it up! He is disabled, had liver transplant, lots of expensive meds——so KEEP HOPE ALIVE!

  7. Yes, praise is due for this last of the true Republicans, i.e. with some semblance of a conscience. Kudos to Mitt Romney.

  8. I heard Mitt’s speech last night on the news.
I praise him for what he said and for standing up against tRump and all of the sissy as* repug cowards.
tRump thinks he’s so cute by threatening to take evil revenge, hopefully he will do it in a way that will cost him royally.
I too say God Bless you Mitt Romney.

  9. It was such a heartfelt speech that clearly weighed heavy on Romney.

I don’t think (and certainly hope) he will have to wait long to be proven correct.

    As I’ve noted before …

  10. Thanks, pooped TGIF Hugs, and Amen to all! 29

  11. New respect and admiration for Mitt’s courage to do the right thing despite the fallout from other republicans
    and Trumpsters. You rock, Mitt!

  12. The pearly gates opened, and a heavenly voice expressed forgiveness to Mitt.  The voice said,
    “Woof!”
