It’s a very busy day here in the CatBox.  Safeway.com should be here with my groceries within 90 minutes.  Speaking of the devil, they came a half hour ago,and I just got everything stowed.  That’s the first time in five years they weren’t late.  On the down side, they were out of lamb, WWWendy is coming to the rescue, so we have a main course for Thanksgiving dinner.  My HTML editor stores the blog format and tags, but the tags had become unmanageable.  There were over 2,000 tags, and every time I try to clean them up, I make less progress than the time before.  Therefor, I decided it was time to start over, so I deleted them all in a bulk operation.  Editors and Managers, please only add new tags that we are likely to use frequently.  I’m running way late, so I’m in a rush.  This is my only article today.  Hectic Hugs to all.

Players be sure to get your lineup set.  There are three games on Thursday.

Short Takes:

From The New Yorker: In a startling break with Thanksgiving tradition, Donald J. Trump refused to pardon the White House turkey after claiming that it was working as a secret operative of the billionaire George Soros.

A group of fourth graders from Bethesda, Maryland, who had gathered on the White House lawn for the annual turkey-pardoning ceremony appeared unprepared for the anti-Soros outburst that Trump unleashed on the Thanksgiving bird.

“That turkey was sent by Soros to spy on me,” Trump said, angrily turning on the fowl. “A lot of people are saying this.”

While the oblivious turkey pecked desultorily at the ground, an increasingly enraged Trump spewed a stream of conspiracy theories linking the feathered animal to global élites, election fraud in Florida, and Jim Acosta.

Andy, couldn’t Bought Bitch Moscow Mitch be the turkey? Then we could all refuse to pardon him!  RESIST!!

  1. 5:31 Almost allegorical.

“Slanted Planet” is a cartoon site that seems to only be on Facebook. I hate linking to Facebook, but this sentiment is something I have never seen anywhere else, and it is brilliant, and I want to give credit.

Cartoon – Good grief, who’d want to eat THAT?

TNY – That’s virtually straight news as well. 51 minutes of craziness on Fox and Friends yesterday? Good grief!

MSNBC – I understand that they call him “E-7 Eddie” – and that, if you don’t know the difference between that and calling him “Chief,” you’re not getting the full implications. The Republicans used to cll themselves the “Law and Order” party, but, having been around so long, I can testify that neither “law” nor “order” ever meant to Republicans the same things they mean to normal people. “Order,” for instance has always included “Jim Crow” to them.

Past – I ralize that this was never meant literally, but I often think of it when I am driving out to or back from eastern Colorado (especially back from, because it’s flat enough, and so little human construction, that I can see the Rocies clearly on a clear day when I an 30 miles out from them.

  2. Cartoon: Indigestion and Tums..perhaps??
Congratulations to those in the FFL, this week.
NYer: Those poor children, I bet that they were terrified. Not by the turkey(s) but dt !!
MSNBC: Boy, this is one for the books, isn’t it? I just can’t wrap my head around this. Total disrespect to the uniform, and service. imho, he should be in Leavenworth by his previous military actions. I find it amazing that dt makes these decisions, but would not even last ONE day in boot camp, let alone working in the military. What a cad.
    BFTP: Yep! great song!!
Sounds like you had a very busy morning. I’m cooking a 25 lb turkey for the family on Thanksgiving, with some sides… Wish it were here though, I take all the food elsewhere, and then have to re-heat it. But it’s in the spirit of the day, so that’s good. Hope that you have a great rest of your day, take good care, and Thanks, Tom.

    2. “For the most common link we have is that we all inhabit this small planet, breathe the same air, and cherish our children’s future and we are all mortal. ~JFK ~ “I know words. I have the best words.” ~ dt ~
    3. dt on phone calls – “I have been watching people my whole life. My hearing is, and has been great. Never have I been able to hear or understand a conversation.” ~ dt ~
    4. fyi: TX repugs sent their entire 2020 strategies to the Dems. LOL ~ pb~

  3. Maybe I’m missing something, but my understanding of the purpose of Tags is that they’re added to articles so that if someone remembers a topic but not the exact article, they could just search the Tags and that would provide a list of all the articles that were thus Tagged – thereby expediting their search.

If you don’t include a Tag w/ your article – even if it’s a repeat Tag – how would that article ever be included in a generic search of that topic?

    • That is my understanding of tags also.  However, speaking as a person who has used the search function of PP to find my own previously written articles to refer to, I’m thinking they may not be needed.  Anything I use as a tag is almost guaranteed to also appear in the body of the article.  I haven’t ever actually tried to search fr a tag, but by a key word or phrase, and that seems to work well.

I would think if one were going to do a search by tag on a frequently used tag, it wouldn’t even be very helpful, since it would bring up too may posts to scan through quickly.

    • JD is right.  Searching the messages base for a topic returns a list of all the posts that match.  Tags are more useful, because search engines index them, but when a sites has thousands of tags, half of which are are near duplicates, misspellings or typos, it defeats the purpose.  As a rule, less is more.  19

  4. HOUSEKEEPING UPDATE

There’ll be no “Friday Fun” this week.

All my cousins are male, and this year all their spouses will celebrate Thanksgiving with the distaff side of their families.  So we’ll celebrate our Thanksgiving on Friday.

I’m bringing a scrumptious “Heavenly Vegetable Casserole” that’s delicious – BUT calorie-laden.  It’s one way to get little kids to eat their veggies.  Sadly, there are no little kids (well, one toddler) – so us adults will have to pitch-in and eat it.  YUM!

  5. No problem with using tags with discretion.

4:10 A draw, but you can have those sweets if you want them, TomCat.

Cartoon: One would indeed hope it’s McConnell’s head on the chopping block next.

TNY: That turkey was an innocent bird and didn’t look like it was going to worship the great leader or had some pro quo for Trump in store, so it doesn’t fall in Trump’s category of pardonable entities.

MSNBC: I have to admit that Trump shows some consistency in his behaviour in that he proclaims to be a genius in everything he does and then shows the world what an absolute failure he is. This week he’s ticked the box of commander in chief. Not that the box needed ticking again…

BFTP: I like this Who song very much even though I never experienced t myself.

  6. And a little fun to brighten the day:

DK: Rep. Nunes runs into trouble as court briefing points out cows do not have opposable thumbs

Nunes obviously never was a Gary Larson fan or he would have known.

“Well, there it goes again … and here we just sit without opposable thumbs.”

    • Lona,
omg…love G. Larson pic, and also both Nunes’ alt mom & cow, which I read faithfully.
The court is also on board. lol

      Absolutely hilarious!!!
Thanks for the giggles this morning!!

  7. Cartoon: Have to agree with Lona that mitch the bi*ch’s head will be the next one on the chopping board.
Congradulations Vivian and others with their fantasty football wins.
TNY: Awful that they needed to stand up around tRump. Amazes me the way tRump has to turn this tradition into talking about himself. Crazy.
MSNBC: I feel that tRump had no right budding into this military situation. Despicable.
BFTP: Great song. The Who is still one of my favorites.
Hope that you can get your HTML program working without any glitches.
Hope you had a good afternoon/evening.
    Take care. Thanks TomCat
