It’s a busy day here in the shiny new CatBox.  WWWendy is coming in an hour and we have lots of chores to do.  I’m sure I won’t have time to post this until after she leaves.  This is my only article today.  Tomorrow, please expect only a Personal Update.  I have an appointment with my Oncologist to go over the results of my Cat Scan.  Update:  She’ll be late.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 2:54 (average 5:05).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Cartoon:

Short Takes:

From YouTube (a blast from the past): America – A horse with no name (clip HQ)

Ah… the memories! RESIST!!

From YouTube (Elizabeth Warren Channel): Dream Big, Fight Hard

I just love that woman! RESIST!!

From Media Matters: One day after a rally put on by the violent far-right group was met with protests by anti-fascist activists, Fox & Friends Sunday ran two segments fearmongering about anti-fascist activists (“antifa”).

In these two segments, Fox News correspondent Griff Jenkins downplayed the death of Heather Heyer and claimed that Heyer was affiliated with antifa; Jenkins would go on to suggest that new laws were needed in order to prosecute such anti-fascist protesters in Oregon as domestic terrorists.

What pure, despicable, Nazi bullshit from the Republican Reichsministry of Propaganda, Faux NoiseRESIST!!

  1. YT: WOW! Great! Yeah, I remember.
EWC: Like her more and more w/each passing day.
MM: I don’t watch Faux, but Wow, I guess he gets the ‘BS’ award  for today! What misleading comments about what is really going on w/the protests. The far-right is very violent, and then blames Antifa?? Heather died because of the actions of the violent R, and he twists the truth? ugh! Gawd…folks listen to this bs too, every day…SAD!
    Cartoon: LOL !

Good luck tomorrow with your med appt, and hope your Oncologist gives you a passing review. Hope that you have a great day today, get your rest or nap, take good care, and Thanks, Tom.

*This just in: Kudos to the guy who walked into a sea of Proud Boys telling them all..”FU!” Except the dog…”You’re cool !” He’s my new hero! ~ anon ~
    2. President’s Day is cancelled, until we get one.” ~ Ray T. ~

  2. 4:53 As badly as I wanted to escape from the blatant orange, it just wasn’t happening. Must wash my eyes now.

In case anyone is wondering (probably not), this is my pick for the next Senator from Colorado.

YT – I do remember hearing this one.

Liz – Some big structural change we do desperately need. Some areas, the structure is find, but the officials sitting in it need to be ousted in large numbers (judiciary, I’m looking at you.) In some cases we need to get back to the Constitution. Some things need a complete overhaul of American attitudes. I do think if anyone can handle it, it’s she.

MM – And here you have yet another example of how language – just the sound of language -can work against meaning. Josephine Tey gave an example of it in the terms “dragoons” and “Covenanters in Scottish history. “Dragoons” sounds terrible, and “Covenanters,” while it doesn’t sound great to me, I admit does sound much better. The Covenanters were in fact the predecessors of our “Evangelical Christians” today, while dragoons were a civil police force (unarmed if I remember correctly) trying to keep people from getting killed. Fast forward to today, the term “antifa” just means “opposed to fascism,” which ideally every decent human being should be. But it doesn’t sound like that. It sounds like a secret society boogeyman. I looked at some comments in the Willamette Weekly, and saw a couple “explaining” it stands for “Anti F.A.” or against the First Amendment. I don’t care that the term has an honorable history in Europe – it needs to go. It doesn’t work here. Anyone not in a group using the name should just stop saying and typing it, and any group which has adopted it needs to change its name to something like pro-democracy, or something invoking freedom.

Cartoon – Republicans don’t deserve the elephant.

  3. Warren! Warren! Warren! She’s my candidate! I’m confident she has a very good chance to beat the Mango Menace. We need somebody who has a real vision for serious change, who can unite Progressives and get them to the polls.

  4. YT: Remember that one very well. Music has always been a part my daily life.
EWC: She sure is getting to be a powerful one. Hoping that she will be the one to win over the jerk who’s in there now.
MM: I don’t watch the F news either. I have no respect for anyone people who only show tRump television.
Hope you have a nice day with Wendy and get everything you wanted to, accomplished.
Good luck at the Oncologist tomorrow. Keep up posted.
    Take care.

  5. The “Toon is perfect!
America, one great song.  But, somehow, i’ve always thought it was a Neil Young song, silly me!
    Warren: Te woman is marvelous!
MM: For those driven by the, it is soooo easy to make up crap!

  6. 3:42 Lavender, a plant which doesn’t only smell wonderful, but is also edible; in salads for instance. Not your cup of tea though, I would think, TomCat.

YouTube: In ’71 my father took our little family of four on a trip through California, Arizona and Utah in a camper van and my brother and I sang A Horse With No Name throughout the trip across canyon land and (painted) deserts. It must have driven my poor dad, who was behind the wheel most of the time, absolutely bonkers, but he never complained. When I revisted those states with my hubby  some 20 years later, one of the first songs we heard on the local radio was A Horse With No Name and it stuck with us all through the trip again.

EW: Dream big, fight hard. Now that’s a slogan to carry this candidate to the presidency.

MM: I said my piece on this yesterday. Faux News spewing its hatred against the left by way of Antifa was to be expected and as disgusting as we have learned to expect from it too.

Good luck tomorrow, TomCat. My fingers and toes are still crossed.

  7. Puzzle — 7:27  Arrggghhhh!!!!!

YouTube — I remember the song but I never understood it.

Elizabeth Warren — A couple of weeks ago, I read an article about Dems needing a catchy “slogan” that could standup to Trump’s MAGA and its 2020 iteration.  I think “Dream Big, Fight Hard” might just make the grade.  Give the Republicans, and Trump in particular, the hell they deserve!  Go Liz!!!

Media Matters — I won’t say that extremists on the left are not capable of violence, but there are far, far more hard right extremists and they DO engage in violence.  The talking heads at Faux Noise certainly encourage hatred and violence and they are a source of inspiration for Trump’s rhetoric and inciting of violence.  Faux Noise is not a news service but an opinion disservice.

Cartoon — What did elephants do to deserve being associated with Republicans?  I hope there are lots of Republicans in that commode and that the elephant is having one colossal dump!

I hope all goes well at the oncologist’s.  I hope that CAT gave you a grade A scan!  With all the physio I am doing, my hand is starting to feel better (it is not painful like it had been) but I definitely do not have any strength in it.  In addition to traction for my neck, I have 8 minutes with a TENS machine, 15 minutes of laser, 7 of ultrasound all on my wrist and elbow, and finally 20 minutes with nerve stimulation on my hand.  I follow that with exercises to strengthen my hand and work with the ulnar nerve.  Then I have to do exercises at home.  I feel like all I do sometimes is exercise.  Oh well, as long as they can prevent further degradation to the nerve.
