It’s a busy day here in the CatBox, as I wait for WWWendy to arrive.  I may be unable to publish this to Care2.  The Care2 Glitch Monster has taken over the site.  It took 20 minutes to get to my message box, and it won’t let me into C2NN at all.  This is today’s only article.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:41 (average 5:12).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From Daily Kos: …Enter GOP rep Mike Hill.

Based on his Twitter and Facebook posts, he is one particularly nasty individual. He refered to Muslims on Twitter as the “demonic Muslim horde” and, on Facebook, posted a question on how his female Republican primary opponent could make decisions in office because she did not bear children.

It’s this man who filed the so-called “fetal heartbeat” bill this session, which forbids an abortion after detection of a fetal heartbeat, which usually happens at the six-week mark in the middle of the first trimester—long before a woman would know she’s even pregnant.  It’s based on complete junk science as the director of gynecology at UC San Francisco explains, it’s “a group of cells with electrical activity. That’s what the heartbeat is at that stage of gestation … We are in no way talking about any kind of cardiovascular system.”

The goal is, as always, to legalize a forced pregnancy.

However, the bill at least originally included exceptions for rape, incest, domestic violence, human trafficking or if the woman’s life is in danger.

That is until God apparently got involved and called Mike up.

As plain as day, God spoke to me. He said that wasn’t my bill, talking about the heartbeat detection bill that I filed. He said that wasn’t my bill. I knew immediately what he was talking about.

He said you remove those exceptions and you file it again.

And I said, yes Lord, I will. It’s coming back. It’s coming back. We are going to file that bill without any exceptions just like what we saw passed in Alabama.

Funny that God didn’t mention anything to Mike about protecting our children from his party’s refusal to do anything about our state’s infamous gun violence.  After all, Florida now has more mass shootings of any other state, including the two largest in US history with Pulse and Parkland.

Republican Supply-side Jesus (the exact opposite of the real Jesus) teaches that the right to life begins at conception and ends at birth. RESIST!!

From TPM: President Donald Trump on Saturday night downplayed North Korea’s missile testing as “some small weapons,” and also claimed that North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un called 2020 Democratic candidate Joe Biden a “low IQ individual.”

If I were Joe, I’d be thrilled. LOL! RESIST!!

From Crooks and Liars: In a perverse sort of way, you’ve got to admire the chutzpah of these con artists. Despite getting millions in tax breaks, flouting all kinds of labor laws, and never once turning a profit, the company behind this testament to fleecing the rubes are now suing their insurance carriers for refusing to cover…wait for it….an act of God.

And yes, those are dinosaurs on their stupid Ark.

Source: Louisville Courier-Journal

The owner of the life-size replica of Noah’s Ark in Northern Kentucky has sued its insurers for refusing to cover, of all things … rain damage.

Ark Encounter, which unveiled the 510-foot-long model in 2016, says that heavy rains in 2017 and 2018 caused a landslide on its access road, and its five insurance carriers refused to cover nearly $1 million in damages.

In a 77-page lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court, Ark Encounter asks for compensatory and punitive damages.

The ark damaged by a flood?!!? FOMCROTFPIMPLMAO!! RESIST!!

  1. 4:46 I had to chuckle over how different a cat under a wet towel would look. This dog is all “Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy!” A cat would be all “Enjoy what little is left of your pathetic life, human.”

DK – If only he could see what this “God” who talks to him in the middle of the night looks like. He’d learn this “God” only speaks in darkness in order to hide the horns, the forked tail, and the “What a sucker!” facial expression. BTW, I like SemDem. Solid facts.

TPM – I doubt Kim said that, or anything like it. That is pure Trumpspeak.

C&L – While property insurance covers some kinds of water damage, flooding is not one of them. Period. The only entity that covers flood is the U. S> Government. (Some companies are authorized to sell government flood insurance, but they do not underwrite it themselves, the government does.) Flood insurance is also a lot less insurance for a lot more money than most companies provide for other types of loss, because most people don’t carry it, so the premium pool is not sufficient to cover losses in full or close to full. I do hope the companies win on this one, for the sake not of the companies, but for the sake of all us ordinary people who do pay our premiums for decent insurance. A loss could destroy the insurance industry as we know it. As far as being an “Act of God,” some act-of-God losses are covered, like the Paradise fire. But flooding is in a category by itself. I hope someone in the media will follow this case through the courts, because I surely see the potential for there to be some extremely amusing testimony.

Cartoon – Oh, yes. And a wretched Memorial Day to all Republicans. The National Memorial Day Concert will be televised tonight on PBS at 7:00 p.m. and repeated at 8:30 p.m. It’s put on by the same people who also do the Fourth of July Concert, or have for 30 years and will again if Dolt 45 doesn’t destroy it this year.

  2. DK: What a cad. Shame he can’t harbor safety for those children at the border, or preventing shooting them in school, either.

TPM: Seriously…what an embarrassment to all of us.

Cartoon: So disrespectful ! Yeah, the way bogus potus is raking in the cash and sticking it into his back pocket, our Veterans will not have anything, if he continues pilfering the coffers. If he does show, it’ll be all about him, in disgraceful fashion. imho.

I had a sense of panic this a.m., in not reaching C2, nor PP. Finally figured how to get to this site, as I’m not the sharpest tack in the box when it comes to the web…lol. Hope that you get to have a nice day today, rest & relax, and take good care. I do, and have in the past, watched the Memorial Day show on PBS every year. I’m hoping too, Joanne, that he (dt), doesn’t ruin the tribute to this country.. on this very special day….

p.s. Family coming in tomorrow, getting the grill fired up early in the a.m., water games for the kids, and enjoying the day. I may be late in commenting tomorrow…we’ll see, until then, Salute to our Fallen.

  3. WRT the plethora of “Heartbeat Bills”, a couple of actual medical observations:
This is a human fetus at 6-weeks:

It’s about the size of a lima bean – and it does NOT have a “heart”.
    https://www.7thstep.org/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Fetus_6-Weeks_Lima-Bean.png
I’ll defer to Dr. Jen Gunter, who has weighed in on political issues in the past with skill:

Dear Press, Stop Calling Them “Heartbeat” Bills and Call Them “Fetal Pole Cardiac Activity” Bills
It’s bad enough that these bills exist, but the press needs to do a better job of calling them what they are. If politicians want to play doctor they should be using medical terms. If they refuse to use the correct terminology the press should correct them. People who vote for the assholes who write these shit shows know them as “heartbeat bills” not because they follow them as they groan through committee, but because that is how they read or hear about them in the news. The politicians know exactly what they are doing  as a “heartbeat” bills is a way of making a 4 mm thickening next to a yolk sac seem like it is almost ready to walk.
    [snip]
The earliest cardiac activity is seen in a fetal pole and using any other term means that you are lock step with a campaign of misinformation and it’s wrong.

Again, I’ll refer to what Sister Joan Chittister says WRT forced-birth:

So a rain damaged Noah’s Ark?  Another nail in the coffin of Irony.

    • Excellent call, Nameless, thank you.

It isn’t necessary for regular readers, I’m sure, but perhaps you should reduce the picture of the six-week old foetus to its true size, a lima bean, to leave no doubt for those who wonder across the site incidentally?

    • I think part of the problem is that medical personnel refer to it as the “baby’s heartbeat” to happy expectant mothers long before it’s accurate. 13

      • I rather doubt that, since a Doppler fetal monitor is typically not used as part of a normal pregnancy until 12 weeks – when it would be fairly accurate WRT fetal heartbeats.

In a normal pregnancy, there is NO medical indication to typically use it at 6 weeks – except to force a birth.

      • Medical personnel, like all people, come in all shapes and sizes, and mindsets.  The screening for med school, nursing school, pharmacy school, and whatever all, screens out many people, but it doesn’t specifically screen for Republicans.  there’s a woman whose comments I follow on Disqus whose career has been doing sonograms, and what she has t say about these bills – and the people who vote for them – is choice.  But she would also be the first to admit that not every medical professional tells patients the same thing.  Nameless is a gem beyond price.  Ben Carson and Rand Paul also have medical degrees (and thank Ceiling Cat neither ever practiced gynecology.)

  4. DK: Is this the only “shithole” country in the world, wherein a candidate for office can be required to be delusional?
    TPM: And for president, too?
Ken Ham is the fool who, a while ago, now, decided that he had to “do something” when he saw that “the evidence for evolution was becoming overwhelming.”  Well, he’s in good company, because one descendant of the dinos responds to stress by hiding his head in the sand, also.

    • “one descendant of the dinos responds to stress by hiding his head in the sand, also.” 👍👌👏

  5. Can’t get into C2NN either.

3:24 Oh, no, you don’t. You’re not having this grateful and trusting dawgie, TomCat.

DK: Is Mike Hill Catholic by any chance? Then he may have gotten his ‘divine inspiration’ from the Pope, who likens abortion to ‘hiring a hitman’ at anti-abortion conference. Note that the pope, however, cleverly refrains mentioning “exceptions for rape, incest, domestic violence, human trafficking or if the woman’s life is in danger.” He leaves striking those exceptions to Republicans.

TPM: Yeah, right 🤣🤣🤣Only a Drumpfian will believe Kim has said anything like that. Personally I think Kim and Drumpf are no longer on speaking terms. The Japanese weren’t too happy about the tweet either, about the  “some small weapons” testing, that is. Biden is not on their radar right now.

C&L: Thanks for posting this, TomCat. The irony of this enormity really made my day.

  6. I like others haven’t been able to get on C2NN. Comes up with a blank for me.
DK: mIke’s last name should be He*l. His disrespectful attitude sucks. His bill has no consideration for women what so ever. Him putting this on God. makes it a real farce too. I agree with Lona regarding the Pope’s avoiding certain actions.
TPM: tRump’s assuming again. We know what that does. He’s playing very stupid games with our country. Ignores and brushes off important matters that can end up creating even bigger problems. What a disgrace to our country.
Cartoon: It’s a disgrace to all who have served. suffered and died for protecting our country. No thanks for serving. They use them. then just ignore them when they become too old to serve.
I like Pat and Joanne, watched the Memorial Day show on PBS every year.
Hope your day was good. Thanks

  7. It is now the 27th, and I cannot get to any news story at C2, so I’ll put this AOC story here, if I may:

“Creepy theological order led by a mad king.”  The lady has a special way with words!

  8. Thanks and hugs to all.  I’m getting the same blank screen for C2NN.  21

  9. The Ark Encounter compound suffering rain damage? Ark ark ark!

  10. Thanx TC 🐈
