It’s a muggy day here in the CatBox, and I feel very tired.  It was hot and humid last night, exacerbated by the heat my O2 concentrator produces.  I slept very poorly.  TGIF!

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:32 (average 5:20).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From YouTube (Late Show Channel): Samantha Bee Gears Up For 2019’s Not WH Correspondents’ Dinner

I can’t wait to see that one. Sam will skewer the Orange Obstructer. RESIST!!

From The Atlantic: [J]oe Biden is running. The former vice president will make his candidacy official with a video announcement next Wednesday, according to people familiar with the discussions who have been told about them by top aides.

Seriously, he’s actually made a decision. It’s taken two years of back-and-forth, it’ll be his third (or, depending on how you count, seventh) try for the White House, and many people thought he wouldn’t do it, but the biggest factor reshaping the 2020 Democratic-primary field is locking into place.

I’m actually disappointed. I had hope that Joe would assume a Senior Advisor role. RESIST!!

From NY Times: Gina Haspel, the director of the Central Intelligence Agency, made a rare public appearance on Thursday to give a nostalgia-laced recruiting pitch to students at Auburn University. But she was confronted instead by a heckler shouting about her role in torturing suspected militants in the years after the Sept. 11 attacks.

Ms. Haspel was recounting the excitement she felt at the start of her own career when the heckling began. “Tell these young children, tell them who you tortured. You know their names — they’re still in Guantánamo Bay,” an unidentified man shouted.

“You’re a decrepit human being,” he continued before being removed by security. “The only people you should be talking to is a prison guard in a jail cell.”

Kudos to the protester. Republican torturers belong in prison, not heading the CIA. RESIST!!

  1. 5:16 Very pretty.

I had enough sleep last night technically, but I spent all my dreams resisting, so I feel sleep deprived. (Yawn.)

Sam – Oh, you bet. This should be the best NTWHCD ever (OK, it’s only the second, but it will set a standard that will be very difficult to surpass.)

Atlantic – I’m disappointed to. After the SNL skit, when you asked whether he was really THAT oblivious – well, I guess he is.

NYT – Hoo boy. That must have been something to see. College students – don’t tell me that no one got it on video. I can hardly wait.

Cartoon – Good grief. Or not-so-good grief is more like it.

  2. LSC: Sam’s such a talent. ‘Yellow lemonade’, and a nod of approval to the journalists. She’s great!

TA: I like Joe. But….I also have a ‘wait and see’ attitude about him. (As with the others in the pool.)

NYT: Good for this young man! They ARE still there and yes, she needs to go to prison, as with others….from this administration.

Cartoon: Time stopped that day for me. As with other US tragedies, I remember exactly where I was, and never forgetting the picture of the fireman who tenderly held little baby Baylee Almon who was killed, and the many others. Horrible day for all of us.
    Happy Passover!

Hope that you get your rest! Enjoy your evening, take good care, and Thanks, Tom.

  3. WRT Passover:

    “Chag Pesach kasher vesame’ach”

Or if your Yiddish is good:

    “A koshern un freilichen Pesach”

  4. Atlantic: I always had respect for Biden. Was shocked with all that came out. I honestly didn’t think he was even going to run. So depending on who lasts of the many candidates, we shall see where he stands.
NYT: Bravo to the protester. Agree with you TC that we don’t need repug torturers running the CIA.
We had a couple of warmer days, but tomorrow it’s going to drop down to the low 60’s for two days with a chance of drizzle on Easter. Then it starts going up. Like a roller coaster. Hope it gets better there.

  5. 4:23 Lovely orchid.

LS: With cowardly Drumpf not showing for the WH Correspondents’ Dinner, wouldn’t it be nice to have all the real journalists showing up at Sam’s Not WH Correspondents’ Dinner. It would be a bit sad for the charity the White House is supporting, but with cheapskate Drumpf not showing, I don’t think that much money is going there anyway.

    TA: He really shouldn’t have.

NYT: I hope there’s been a crowd funding started to bail this courageous man out of jail. He came well prepared and put Haspel to shame while drawing attention to the CIA torturing and the fact that the victims are still in Gitmo, something few remember with all the Drumpfian hullabaloo drowning it out. Kudos!

Freilichen Pesach to those who celebrate it.

  6. Thanks, Hugs, and Amen to all. 23
