Kill a Muslim for Trump

I like Rep. Ilhan Omar.  She’s got spunk.  At the same time, I recognize that her inexperience has led her to factual errors and statements that were too easy to misunderstand.  If someone disagrees or want’s to correct her errors, they are  free to do so.  They are not free to set her up to suffer injury or death from a violent attack.  However that is exactly what Trump and his Republican Reich are trying to do.

0415HateSpeech

Rep. Ilhan Omar says she’s faced increased death threats since President Donald Trump spread around a video that purports to show her being dismissive of the 2001 terrorist attacks. “This is endangering lives,” she said, accusing Trump of fomenting right-wing extremism. “It has to stop.”

Her statement late Sunday followed an announcement by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi that she has taken steps to ensure the safety of the Minnesota Democrat and the speaker’s call for Trump to take down the video.

Soon after Pelosi’s statement, the video disappeared as a pinned tweet at the top of Trump’s Twitter feed, but it was not deleted.

Pelosi was among Democrats who had criticized Trump over the tweet, with some accusing him of trying to incite violence against the Muslim lawmaker. An upstate New York man recently was charged with making death threats against her… [emphasis added]

Here’s more coverage from CNN.

Actually, she was wrong too. CAIR was founded in 1994, not after 9/11.  What Rogers said could not be more absurd.  Violent Republican hate speech is NOT free speech.

  1. I’ve said it before – I’ll probably say it again.

No matter how one approaches the subject, Muslims have been around a lot longer (like before the Revolution) and contributed far more to America than most people imagine.

  2. Free speech is precious, but it is not an absolute. There must be limits. Squelching those who preach violence and hate does not infringe on anybody’s rights anymore than arresting some dip for yelling “Fire!” in a crowded theatre and prompting a stampede. With every right comes the responsibility to use that right wisely, not squander it on folly or extremism.

  3. Who would have thought, at this time, of even talking about this? While she spoke with her heart, dt spoke back with a vile threat. She will learn from this experience, and with the backing of the Dems in the House, she will learn, and become stronger over this incident.
*Good explanation, re: the paradox of intolerance, Joanne, thx!

  4. Despicable the way tRump and his repugs cronies twist and mix up what other people speak.
She may not have the experience quite yet, but what gives brainless tRump the right to speak??
He not experienced at anything other than pushing the button on his tweeter device.
I agree with you TC and Pam that Rep. Ilhan Omar needs to step back an address issues in a slower manner, making sure she doesn’t send or speak out the wrong type of messages.

  5. Drumph, and his cronies, and following sheep, do not care about free speech, unless it freely supports his/their BS!  Popper had it right!

  6. Only this week Aussie rugby fans were shocked to learn that one of their million-dollar star players, Israel Folau, was issued with a Rugby Australia (RA) code of conduct breach notice recommending his contract be terminated, in the wake of the posts on social media proclaiming hell awaits “drunks, homosexuals, adulterers, liars, fornicators, thieves, atheists and idolaters”. Folau, a devout (Pentecostal) Christian, has been reprimanded last year for similar tweets, is unapologetic and claims freedom of speech and freedom of religion for his action. The RA has answered that freedom of speech doesn’t imply freedom of consequences and as a role model and a national rugby player he’s supposed to represent ALL Australians.

If Australians can kick one of their best players and best hopes for good end-results from the national team for tweeting and posting hate speech, it is beyond imagination that the man who calls himself the President of the USA, and who is supposed to represent all Americans, is allowed to twitter hate speech day after day without consequence.

  7. Listening to the tape, I understood immediately what she was saying.  But as usual, the Dark Lord has taken Rep Ilhan Omar’s comments out of context and blown them up.  Trump’s posted reaction is pure hate speech and he is inciting violence against an entire religious group, one that makes up maybe 1% of the US population.  Such intolerance is unacceptable.

Steve Rogers is so full of shit, his eyes are brown!  The Dark Lord has never incited violence???  What planet has he been living on?  As the CNN host said, that’s an outright lie!

One thing is very clear to me, these racist bigots will never enter the pearly gates but be consigned to hell for all eternity.

  8. hate breeds more hate.. the ugly fact of america is that the hate has always been there, with 45 in the whitehouse people feel emboldened to act with horrid crueltly.

  9. Thanks Popper Hugs to all! 12
