It’s a chilly day here in the CatBox.  Yesterday’s meeting was very long and I’m very tired, but we accomplished everything we needed to get done.  On 2/19, I blasted Jussie Smollett.  Jussie Smollett has been cleared.  When I’m wrong, I say I’m wrong.  I apologize to Jussie and to you all.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:08 (average 4:17).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From YouTube (Trey Crowder Channel): Liberal Redneck – Mueller Report Schmueller Report

Dayyum! “2020 is the only play and it always has been!” Amen to that. However, we need to make the truth obvious. RESIST!!

From YouTube (Robert Reich Channel): Robert Reich & W. Kamau Bell: A Tale of Two Tickets

The Reich on the left, Robert Reich, is half right. Bell is the other half right. RESIST!!

From Alternet: The Trump Administration told a federal court on Monday that it will be urging federal judges to strike down the Affordable Care Act of 2010, a.k.a. Obamacare. A lower court ruled in December that the law is unconstitutional, and Justice Department attorneys have asserted in a letter filed with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit in New Orleans that the December 2018 ruling “should be affirmed.”…

…Here are some of the most harmful results of the Trump Administration gutting and undermining the ACA.

1. Undermining the ACA is bad for Medicare

In 2016, Trump asserted that unlike other GOP presidential candidates, he had no interest in gutting Medicare. But when Republicans attack the ACA, they also attack Medicare. Obamacare didn’t hurt Medicare, contrary to what Trump claims; it strengthened it. But in 2017, it was estimated that the GOP’s anti-ACA efforts would cause Medicare’s revenue to drop by $346 billion.

2. Gutting Obamacare is terrible for Americans with preexisting conditions

Most Americans over 40, even if their health is generally good, have some type of malady that insurance companies call a “preexisting condition”—which could be anything from asthma to acid reflux. Pre-ACA, insurance companies could deny coverage to Americans because for a long list of reasons. But the ACA brought health insurance to millions of Americans who were uninsurable before, and everyone from diabetics to cancer survivors to asthmatics will be imperiled if Trump’s assault on health care reform progresses.

I shared the first two. Click through for the other three. RESIST!!

  1. 3:54 Maybe fish.

Worth a look, especially if you are grasping at straws right now.

I know we all appreciate your journalistic integrity, especially since there is so little of it elsewhere. Thanks.

Trae – It isn’t over till it’s over. Yes, 2020 is what WE can do. That’s for sure. But the House is barely starting its investigations. Adam Schiff, Jerry Nadler, ELijah Cummings, Maxine Waters do not seem to me like people who can be bullied out of doing their jobs.

Update: (Dino) Durrati (who is now writing at both Politizoom and Daily Kos) has this to say, and it expresses what I want to say better than I can: “But let me say, as a side note, that the events that have transpired in the last few days — Barr’s “get out of jail free card”, the Justice Department’s stance on not defending Obama Care, the WSJ’s call to investigate Obama’s attempts to ascertain how far Russia was embedded in drumpf’s campaign, the Pentagon’s acquiescing to a billion dollars of purloined funds to go to the Wall — were, I believe, pre-planned gambits designed to dishearten and dispirit the resistance and we much actively resist giving in to despair.”

RR – I’m so glad they got together to tell the flat truth. And made the point that an unjust system HURTS EVERYONE. Downloading this one.

AlterNet – It remains to be seen whether or not they have succeeded in packing the courts enough to actually make these plans stick. Clearly they think they have. But then, they don’t think with their brains. Even if that have some success in the courts, that will spur Democrats in Congress to write and pass better legislation sooner than later. Yes, this – and they – are terrible. But – back to Trae – eyes on the prize.

Cartoon – I don’t think weather people are wrong ALL the time. And, most of they time they are wrong, they are at least kind of close. Faux Noise, on the other hand …

  2. So, we opened the Mueller treasure chest and didn’t find any gold doubloons. However, if the general public is allowed to see it – and not just tRump’s lapdogs – we may find other treasures, so to speak. All that matters is if Mueller found any credible evidence that His Orangeness committed impeachable offenses. Let the right-wing micro-dicks have their party, because if we on the left can get our manure together, we’ll have the last laugh at their expense.

RRC: Makes me sick to the stomach! Our f—ed up system seems deliberately geared to keep the poor trapped in poverty, to encourage recidivism, and to keep blacks down. The fact that most money from court fines goes to privately-owned collection companies makes it much worse! Those greedy orcs are right down there at the bottom with terrorists and child molesters. A cascade of crap indeed! Unless we revamp our entire (in)justice system, the USA is doomed to choke on blood.

Yes, I went to the website. We need organizations like that in EVERY state, and one nationwide.

Once again, TomCat’s cartoon is spot on!

    • The only person who has opened the Mueller treasure chest is Barr; the rest of us haven’t seen a thing.  And even Barr had to admit that the report DID NOT EXONERATE the Quicker Fucker Upper.  Don’t let anyone tell you it did.

  3. Trae: I hear ya, Trae, we must persist, and resist!!!

RR: What a sad state that we are in. The disparity of black vs. white, shows we have a lot of work ahead to fix this, and improving our system! This effects us all.

AN: This is ominous news, that dt wants to gut ACA. But then again, he doesn’t want or even care for any of us. And also, rid everything of what President Obama did good for the country!

    Cartoon: Word.

Glad your meeting went well, and that you are getting your much needed rest. It’s a beautiful day here. Hope that you have a great evening, take care, and Thanks, Tom.

  4. i follow Robert Reich on Twitter & share everything he posts!

  5. 04Trumpy doesn’t even care if  not Healthcare hurt’s anyone
but  sure hope it shows in the Polls! and still wanting the Dam Wall!

  6. Trae: We must be strong and continue to fight on.RR: We really are in a big mess. Sad.Agree with Freya.Cartoon: At least it’s an honest job.

  7. 2:31 Pretty barren.

Last thing I read was that all charges were dropped against Jussie, but no explanation was given, giving the impression that the police can’t find proof of either side: Jussie putting up a hoax or an attack on Jussie by homophobic racists. It would be nice if either of them admitted to being wrong, like you did, TomCat.

    LR: Trey sounds a little

    but it is

RR: So well done, this combination video really gets the message across. Kudos to Robert Reich and W. Kamau Bell

Alternet: This is of course terrible news, but the BBC also saw the silver lining:

Now the Trump administration is going all-in on what would be a judicial death-blow to Obamacare, thrilling some conservatives but also energising Democrats.

While the law probably will be upheld in the end, the move sets up the possibility that hundreds of thousands of Americans could lose their health insurance – perhaps around the time of the 2020 presidential election – with the Trump administration part of the reason why.

That could end up as a huge gift to Democrats, who are seeking to use the healthcare issue in 2020 to unseat Donald Trump and hold on to their new majority in the House of Representatives.

A gift to the Democrats, perhaps, but I wouldn’t like to be one of those additional hundreds of thousands of Americans who lost their insurance besides the millions (?) who already have. Gift or no gift, Drumpf’s plan needs to be brought to a halt before people literally are left for dead.

Cartoon: The weather people get it wrong more often these days because Climate Change is making their work almost impossible. Faux News people, on the other hand, don’t get it wrong. They just lie.

  8. Puzzle — 3:42  Nice scene but it seems Lona took care of any possible fish.

Trey Crowder — “2020 is the only play and it always has been!” and “eyes on the prize comrades” — AMEN!!!

Robert Reich — The criminalisation of poverty — an absolute disgrace!  But that it disproportionately affects African Americans makes it that much more egregious.  So this is American capitalism?

AlterNet — “Trump asserted that unlike other GOP presidential candidates, he had no interest in gutting Medicare.” As if we did not already know, Trump shamelessly lies continuously!  So instead of undocumented immigrants killing people (which they don’t), the Trump criminal régime is going to do it by ditching affordable healthcare.  This is absolutely scandalous and the fact that the #1 cause of personal bankruptcy is medical expenses further exacerbates American healthcare. In 2019 there should be no reason for this.

Is there a colonoscopy to detect and excise the assholes in the Trump régime?

Cartoon — Is that Joe Walsh?  Sure looks like him, useless tool that he is and was.

  9. Eye on the Prize!
2020 has ALWAYS been what we should be working for.  The Mueller Report would have (and still might be) a welcome gift – but we were NEVER going to win over Twitler’s base no matter WHAT it says.
And personally I think Twitler directing his administration to try and destroy ObamaCare is a gift.  He definitely derailed his own victory lap.
Remember healthcare was the centerpiece of our solid victory in the 2018 elections!

  10. Thanks and Rushed Hugs to all. 26
