Republican Reichcession

Did you vote for Trump?  Did you waste your vote on a third party candidate?  Did you stay home?  If you answered ‘yes’, pull down your pants, bend over, grab your ankles and get ready to say BAAAA-A-A-A-A-A-A!  A recession from the bowels of the Republican Reich, a Republican Reichcession, is on the way.  Sadly, the rest of us get it too.  And guess who was right?

GOP-Recession

I first suggested the U.S. economy was headed toward a recession more than a year ago, and now others are forecasting the same. I give a business downturn starting this year a two-thirds probability.

The recessionary indicators are numerous. Tighter monetary policy by the Federal Reserve that the central bank now worries it may have overdone. The near-inversion in the Treasury yield curve. The swoon in stocks at the end of last year. Weaker housing activity. Soft consumer spending. The tiny 20,000 increase in February payrolls, compared to the 223,000 monthly average gain last year. Then there are the effects of the deteriorating European economies and decelerating growth in China as well as President Donald Trump’s ongoing trade war with that country…

  1. I like bears … but not this kind. Anyone my age who has ever paid the slightest bit of attention to the economy could have predicted a recession under Trump, just because Republican power in the Federal government, be it Presidential or Congressional (and they just had two years of both) always, sooner or later, brings about a recession at best. I would say that it’s lucky it wasn’t a full blown depression – except that I suspect the only reason it wasn’t was that they were too busy packing the courts to really pay attention to wrecking the economy.

  2. No, No, NO!!!! to your questions @PP. It’s downright awful that this is even happening…thx but no thx to the GOP! ugh!

  3. Yes, vote blue no matter who – but to make sure it really matters, support truly progressive candidates NOW. Let the Dumbocrats know that we voters want real Democrats, not wee-willy-winky centrists or corporate shills, running for office. Only real progressives and left-wingers can kick Rethuglican arse.

  4. All of us her saw this coming with republicans in control.  When will Americans ever learn?

  5. If a recession is going to come (and it no doubt will – too many indicators are predicting it), let it come in time to put the final nail in Twitler’s coffin.  (And you can take that figuratively or literally!)

    • Having been over at the news reading about the latest report of the Council of Economic Advisers just out … I don’t know what else should be expected when the White House economic interns include people like Bruce Wayne, Peter Parker, Aunt May, Steve Rogers, Jon Snow, Kathryn Janeway, John Cleese, and, last but not least, J. T. Hutt.

  6. I also say NO NO NO. I voted for H C, but we know where that went…sorry to say.We must get ready for another big fight to get the clown out of office.

  7. Sadly it isn’t just the US which is heading for a recession, it’s a global phenomenon. Australia somehow missed out on the last global recession, but now the signs of a downturn are already there. And all because, according to economical pundits, the right-wing government banked on trickle down economics in exactly the same way America has. Europe: much the same story, further exacerbated by the huge uncertainties caused by Brexit.

In Oz we’re having elections in May, with Labor predicted to win, who will then inherit the recession and see it bloom no matter what they do. All their beautiful plans to fight global warming will come to nothing because there’s no money left, and they’ll also get the blame for it all, just because it happens in their time in government. History does repeat itself, time and time again.

  8. Nita, “ever” is a very long time, and I have little faith in the general IQ of the nation.
Drumph will not only send us into a recession, he has already sent us into a cultural tailspin, with his enabling, and encouragement of the worst traits in the country.
Lona, has Reagan’s ghost been whispering in the ear of the conservative gov’t?  Trickle down was never anything but a nasty fairytale.  Reagan used it to send money up the social scale, and that is all it is good for.  And what do conservatives really want, MORE!

  9. I agree with Lona . . . it is a global recession that is about to land.  Look how many conservative governments there are around the world.  It is much like dominoes . . . one starts to go sour and other connected economies will follow.  It may not be to the same degree everywhere, but it will be global.

When you look at the US stock market over the past five or so years, it has soared higher and higher and some billionaire investors have made a killing.  Warren Buffett has indicated at least a year ago that this was coming.  Baby Bush’s administration put the country into a financial crisis.  Obama had to start the clean up.  Of course Trump will blame any recession on Obama when the culprit is himself and the Republican Reich.  Insatiable greed and stupidity is the cause célèbre of the Republican Reich.

  10. Thanks and tired hugs to all. 35
