It’s a busy day, here in the CatBox.  Store to Door is delivering groceries later.  This evening WWWendy comes to destink the vile TomCat.  I’m feeling s tad more geriatric today.  Judge Jackson sentenced Paul Manafart to 3.5 years in addition to his other sentence.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:59 (average 5:26).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From YouTube (Media Matters Channel): Years of Laura Ingraham’s anti-immigrant commentary

Barf Bag Alert!!

Ingraham and other commentators at the Republican Reich ministry of propaganda, Faux Noise, should be required to wear their sheets and hoods, when on camera. RESIST!!

From Reuters: The parliament will vote on Wednesday on whether to leave the European Union in 16 days without an agreement as the government said it would eliminate import tariffs on a wide range of goods in a no-deal Brexit scenario.

British lawmakers on Tuesday handed Prime Minister Theresa May a second humiliating defeat on the Brexit plan she had agreed with the EU, plunging the country deeper into political crisis.

The turmoil leaves the world’s fifth largest economy facing a range of scenarios – it could leave without a transition deal; delay the March 29 divorce date enshrined in law; May could hold a snap election or try a third time to get her deal passed; or Britain could hold another Brexit referendum.

The best way for the people of the UK to show that they are not Brexit Bridiots is to hold another Brexit referendum, defeat Brexit, and dump their right-wing government. RESIST!!

From Daily Kos: It would be a giant leap to say that the Ethiopian Airlines crash that killed 157 people on Sunday was caused by the U.S. government shutdown, but there is reason to believe the aircraft’s safety may have been compromised by the impasse Donald Trump forced over funding for his vanity wall.

The crash apparently bore similarities to that of Lion Air flight 610, which went down near Indonesia last year. And a new software fix to address what happened during that flight was significantly delayed in part because of the shutdown.

Quartz:

After the Lion Air crash, the FAA—which, with EU airline regulators, generally sets the tone for aviation safety worldwide—issued a new “airworthiness directive” to US operators of the Boeing 737 8 and 9 planes, warning that an “unsafe condition” exists on the models and providing flight crews “with runaway horizontal stabilizer trim procedures to follow under certain conditions.”

Straightforward safety upgrades to the jets’ software to fix the automated safety feature, were originally expected in January according to multiple reports. But they were delayed until April, the Wall Street Journal reported Feb. 10, because of “engineering challenges,” “differences of opinion” between federal and Boeing officials, and the 35-day government shutdown, during  which “consideration of the fixes was suspended.”

Don’t tell the Republican Reich. If they find out they helped kill all those black people, it will be party time in GOPville. RESIST!!

  1. 6:13 No hurry, since I know you won’t eat her.

Whatever a “bomb cyclone” does, it doesn’t seem to be doing it in Colorado Springs – so far. Of course, it wasn’t predicted for here. (It was predicted for Vicki Marble’s district, however.)

We’ve all signed multiple petitions requesting criminal justice reform. This one is especially on behalf of Native peoples.

Not only Judge Jackson, but the State of New York filed charges today on 16 counts … and no Trump pardon will make that go away.

BBA – Can’t take any more of her. But I’m not sure your suggestion would help. Her fans know she’s a Nazi, and love her for it.

Reuters – There are many perfectly sane people in Britain. It’s surely too bad that more of them have not been voting – or, for that matter, getting elected.

DKos – I believe we are the only country in the worls which has not grounded this model – so, for a wjile at least, we are the only people endangered, and that only on in-country flights.

    Cartoon –

    • OK, you’re going to have to fill in your own expletives – mine will not do justice to this:

Trump autographed Bible sells for $325
Bible signed by President Trump sold on eBay

I saw it on Salon … but I expect it will soon be all over.

  2. I just lost my comment, well…here goes, condensed version, lol

BBA: Her entitled disdain is palpable. Maybe she should get out in the fields at the border, and see how it really is, imho.

    Reuters: What a mess.

DK: Horrible! A tragedy that should NOT have happened, a tragedy of magnitude proportions.

Cartoon: Happy Birthday, Tom !! 03

Hi, WWWendy. Hope that you have a great rest of your day, relax and enjoy this day, take good care, and Thanks, Tom.

  3. BBA:  The people that watch Faux Noise are just as racist as the news is.

Reuters:  Most citizens that I know from the UK want to vote on Brexit again.

Daily Kos:  Luckily the planes are now grounded here too.

Happy Birthday TomCat!! I hope you have a nice rest of the day.

    Tell WWWendy hi.

  4. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!  You share it with one of my favorite people, my maternal grandfather, wonderful!
Related:  Manafort got more time from the DC judge, though less than I had hoped, BUT, he is also indicted in SDNY!  Mr. Frigging “Exemplary!”  See my related posting, at C2: https://www.care2.com/news/member/565542931/4140811
Ingraham, the others and Murdoch, especially Murdoch, need to wear the uniforms!  What Joanne said!
Reuters: They need a “Do over!”  And the heck(?) with there being no precedent…this is too important!!
DK: Your summation of the situation is all too, sadly, spot on!

  5. BBA: Disgusting listening to her.How people can even listen or watch such trash, I’ll never understand. Reuters: Seems like a mixed up situation to me.
DK: Wow…finally tRump did something for the people for the very first time when he grounded these planes. I was getting concerned that the U.S. wasn’t doing like the other countries.
    Cartoon: Cute..Happy Birthday TomCat,

  6. Happy birthday, TomCat.

I hope you will continue your 39th birthday for many more years; the number suits you.

3:52 Sorry, I didn’t mean to steal a friend away from your birthday party.

MM: No, no, no, no, no, I was in a good mood up to now! I’m not going to spoil it with years of Ingraram’s hatred spewing compacted into one video, than you.

Reuters: The British parliament has locked itself into a complete deadlock. They’ve now voted against leaving without a deal and are probably going to ask the EU for an extension of time until June 30, but this can only happen when they finally approve her deal when put to the vote a third time. If the don’t, a longer extension is needed and the Brits would have to take part in elections for the European Parliament in May, which neither the EU nor the UK want.

BBC Europe correspondent Kevin Connolly said that before approving any extension to Article 50 – the legal instrument by which the UK will leave the EU – EU leaders would want to know “how long an extension the UK requires and how it proposes to use the time”.

A European Commission spokesperson said: “There are only two ways to leave the EU: with or without a deal. The EU is prepared for both.

There’s no time for new elections in Britain or even a new referendum. Both would take at least several months to organize. Sadly the people can’t call for a new referendum, only the government can write one out, and so far May has refused to do so. It’s HER deal or NO deal and to hell with everyone else.

DK: That may not be the whole story, apparently. Boeing had already installed new software in the automatic pilot to compensate for the Boeing 737 8’s and 9’s tendency to put its nose up because they had fitted these air crafts with heavier motors than they were originally designed for. But pilots didn’t know of this compensation nor were they trained to override this software. Boeing thought that training pilots to handle this was just too costly. That is why they tried to put the blame on the pilots after the first crash. Drumpf’s shutting down government may have had some influence, but it looks like Boeing is trying to get away with messing up too.
By the way, the Ethiopian plain was on it’s way to Nairobi in Kenya with more than 30 nationalities on board, including at least eight Americans and 18 Canadians, many on their way to the UN Environment Programme meeting in Nairobi. I don’t think the GOP will be partying over them.

  7. 22 Happy Birthday TomCat

  8. Thanks, everyone, for the kind birthday wishes,  WWWendy brought a pizza and a chocolate cake! 25
