Impeach?

Nancy Pelosi has angered some of my progressive friends by taking the impeachment of Resident Donald Trump, the Cantaloupe Criminal, the Tangerine Traitor, off the table.  Don’t get my wrong!  I would thoroughly enjoy seeing the Fuhrer of the Republican Reich kicked from the White House into a 6 X 8 with bars.  That’s a TomCat wet dream!  Nothing could be more just.  But if we consider it seriously, is it really a good idea?

Democrats are largely lining up behind House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her wait-and-see strategy on any impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump.

Moderate and even some of the most liberal House Democrats said they were supportive of the speaker after she told The Washington Post that she’s not for impeachment, at least for now. Impeaching Trump is “just not worth it,” Pelosi said, unless there’s overwhelming support. While some in her caucus may disagree on certain points, the majority of Democrats endorsed Pelosi’s approach.

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff said a unilateral pursuit of impeachment by Democrats would be an “exercise doomed for failure.”

“I see little to be gained by putting the country through that kind of wrenching experience,” he said at a breakfast hosted by the Christian Science Monitor.

House Oversight and Reform Committee Chairman Elijah Cummings said impeachment “has to be a bipartisan effort, and right now it’s not there.” Cummings said his sense is that “this matter will only be resolved at the polls.”…  [emphasis added]

Here’s my take on it.

If we impeach now, we do get to tell the story through the Impeachment Managers.  But we have other ways to tell the story.  The process is likely to take a year or more to complete, to the exclusion of everything else.  Voters are likely to say “Democrats don’t care about us.  They just want to get Trump.”  Don’t You think we can use the time more effectively by demonstrating how we would govern to voters?

But what if Republicans supported impeachment too?  Consider this the only way Republicans would support impeachment is by deciding Trump had become such a severe liability that they would fare better in 2020, if Pence were their Fuhrer.  Now Pence would commit every evil act that Trump would, but he would act sneaky instead of Trump’s normal obvious  rampage.  Would either the Democratic Party or the American people be better off under Pence?  Do you want Republicans to fare better in 2020?

As appealing as impeachment is, I think we should impeach him at the polls.

  1. As much as I would love to see him gone (and Pence too), I would point out that failing to listen to Nancy Pelosi AND Adam Schiff AND Elijah Cummings would be disastrous. Those are three of the best brains in Washington.

I’m not sure that “showing how we can govern” will actually help us at the polls. Voters will see what they want to see.

There are some people still saying that Trump cultists will see the truth when they see EVIDENCE (emphasis theirs.) Please – if the spectacle of Orange Judas in the Oval Office bragging about how he had fired Comey to get rid of the Russia investigation, and handing them classified information, in broad daylight, before cameras, isn’t evidence, what kind of evidence would it take? Mueller is a crack investigator and prosecutor, but he doesn’t have supernatural powers. Nor does Congress.

  2. I trust Ms. Pelosi, Mr. Schiff, and Mr. Cummings in their judgement on this matter. Ms. Pelosi’s comment, “He’s not worth it”, means, to me, that dt is not worth the time, and effort for our party (and us) to go through the proceedings for it to end up dead in the Senate. It matters more on the many issues that are on the table right now, Vets, Military, Medicare/Medicaid/SS, and infrastructure. imho.

Good video, about this. Yes, I agree, impeach at the polls !!

  3. Well, Speaker Pelosi didn’t take it totally off the table – she gave herself a caveat loophole:

“But since you asked, and I’ve been thinking about this: Impeachment is so divisive to the country that unless there’s something so compelling and overwhelming and bipartisan, I don’t think we should go down that path, because it divides the country. And he’s just not worth it.”

    [Emphasis added]

I have long felt the same way.  It eliminates Twitler and his base ability to wallow in their hoped-for “victimization”.

But let the investigations continue to show the scope and depth (bottomless) of this administration’s “Malevolence Tempered by Incompetence”.

As someone at Daily Kos recommended, Democrats need: Legislate But Investigate.

  4. If only there was a way to get the hell rid of tRump and Pence at the same time.
    Then we’d get President Pelosi.
I don’t think she’d be great, but she sure as blazes would be better than what we have now!

  5. I too would love to see Drumpf and Pence impeached and end up with President Pelosi but that’s a pipe dream.  I agree with Nancy Pelosi, Adam Schiff, and Elijah Cummings that Impeachment proceeding are a waste of time right now.  I like that they are investigating the Drumpf regime and passing bills.  It’s a much better use of their time.

  6. I AM ENTIRELY IN ACCORD WITH PELOSI!
I have said it here before, and sent it in e-mails to others.  I have put it in terms of “We can’t try to impeach, and fail, can’t try it until we have a solid plurality for it in the senate, because if Drumph survives an impeachment process, ‘You ain’t seen nothing, yet!'”
But, Pelosi’s point is a valid one all by itself: the process would split the county, polarize us beyond belief, and energize the imbecilic crazies like nothing else.

  7. It;s a crazy situation. There has to be a better quicker way to take care of tRump. With all the evil he has done??I agree with Winn.

  8. Agree with Pelosi, Schiff, Cummings, TomCat and everyone commenting here. In Pelosi’s words: He’s “just not worth it”. Nothing will hurt his ego more than saying that. 😁 It’s a waste of time, money and energy which should be spent on good legislation, preventing Drumpf and the GOP from doing more harm to the country and making sure both are finished after the polls. Then leave it to the judiciary, so well prepared by Mueller, to put Drumpf and friends in jail where they belong.

  9. Thanks, Hugs, and Amen to all. 13

  10. 07 Oh yes Nancy is on the right track let him do it to himself!
He will with all his doings!
    He will be gone!
