It’s a cold day here in the CatBox, but not quite as cold as it has been.  I have some good news.  The ARK comment editor was updated to compatibility with WordPress 5.1, so I reinstalled it.  It is still not as powerful as it was, when combined with TinyMCE, but it restores use of color, smileys, fonts, and several other functions.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:30 (average 4:54).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From YouTube (MSNBC Channel): DHS Secy. Kirstjen Nielsen Tries To Defend Trump Family Separation Policy

Republicans don’t put children in cages; The Pope is not Catholic; and bears never, ever shit in the woods. RESIST!!

From YouTube (Daily Kos Channel): Rep. Clay Higgins (R-LA) equates southern border with D Day

Barf Bag Alert!!

Every time Republicans enact policy at the southern border, it is D-Day: Dingbat Day! RESIST!!

From Newsweek: Each year, those who observe Lent select something to abstain from for 40 days. When it comes to sugar, caffeine and alcohol, cravings may not be the only challenge people face, as a sudden lack of the addictive dietary items can affect the body and mind.

Dr. Genevieve Brauning, a doctor at the Novant Health SouthPark Family Physicians, told Newsweek that suddenly cutting caffeine, sugar or alcohol out of a person’s diet could lead to withdrawal-like symptoms.

“The acute withdrawal symptoms from addictive substances like caffeine and alcohol typically last three to seven days,” Brauning said. “It appears that sugar follows a similar pattern. But the cravings can last weeks, months, and even years.”

Click through for more info. I think I’ll give up goose-stepping with the Republican Reich, and wearing Republican sheets and hoods for Lent. 😉 RESIST!!

  1. 6:27 I don’t care 2 pins about these – um – two pins.

Nielsen – Lord, what a fiasco that was.

Higgins – Nothing but BBAs today – at least for videos.

Withdrawal – I can’t speak for alcohol, and she doesn’t mention nicotine, but I once swithched from caffeinated coffee to decaf, and found that a tiny pinch of salt in each cup of decaf alleviated the worst of the symptoms. And, when I was quitting smooking, Gatorade was still making an electrolyte balance gum, and it definitely helped me get through the first year, which was by far the worst. I don’t say that keeping your electrolytes in balance will help break any addiction … but I don’t see how it can hurt. Me, I’ll just give up my claim on the British throne for Lent.

    Cartoon – John Lewis remembers:

On March 7th, 1965, hundreds of peaceful protesters were viciously attacked by state troopers in a confrontation at Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama.

Joanne, I was one of those protesters.

Today marks the 53rd anniversary of Bloody Sunday — a day that will be forever etched into American history.

I saw unconscionable hatred that day. I saw pure racism. And I thought I saw death.

But despite Bloody Sunday, the physical attacks, the serious injuries and more than 40 arrests, I remain a devoted advocate of nonviolence.

I believe love will always triumph over hate. I believe we are all worthy of respect. And I believe that peace is the only true way for change.

  2. MSNBC: Release those sweet babies now!! btw…for training purposes…Nielsen should put herself in one, to see how it works out for her. js.
BBA: Good grief !!! what an A-s !!
NW: Having been raised Catholic, every year was the same promise, sweets. Has been through the years, but on a positive note, I’ve recently given up ‘sky diving’. I’m petrified of heights, but I thought that this would be a nice leverage. Personally, I would never pursue diving in the sky as one of my ‘to do’ activities.
Cartoon: I remember my father speaking about this, and we watched the horror and violence on TV. He made us read and talk about this event. Thanks, Joanne, for John Lewis’ words. Speaks volumes after this many years.
Good news, indeed ! Glad that you got everything fixed. Thank you! Hope that you have a good evening, take good care, and Thanks, Tom.
*This just in: “Accuse the other side of that which you are guilty.” ~ Joseph Goebbels, Nazi Propaganda minister.~

    • Any doubt that there is any connection between the Republican Reich and the Third Reich has just been confirmed by Joseph Goebbels, Nazi Propaganda minister.

  3. MSNBC: All one will ever get from anyone in the Shi*hole administration will be rancid garbage…in the image of their Fuhrer!
DK: Same goes for the other GOPIGGIES!
‘Toon: And the bigotry and hate lives on, and on;is thriving in the era of the Orange Hater!

  4. MSNBC: How all of tRump’s puppets can stand up in these hearings and feed lies like the do, I’ll never understand. I tale it that she is just as heartless as her boss to speak false information.
DK: Ditto of what I wrote above. All speaking false lies.
Newsweek: Yes remember having to give up a certain thing during the religious time.I had a couple of days here where I didn’t drink my morning sugar free Rockstar energy drink and both times I was suffering from a awful headache. So I can relate to the symptoms of suddenly cutting caffeine. I never thought that just one could have such an effect on me. Crazy.
Cartoon: Was an awful day. Sorry to say I agree with Mitchell that it still lives on….all because of a leader that preaches hatred and racism.
Glad things are finally getting back into place for you TC.

  5. MSNBC: Nielson is just as heartless as her boss.
BBA: What a bunch of horse hockey.
    Thank you TomCat

  6. Puzzle — 4:29  Well I obviously got the point . . . right in the butt!

MSNBC — Michael Steele: “… for the Democrats if they’re smart, the strategy isn’t impeachment, that’s an afterthought … you can bring administration officials up to Capitol Hill to go after on uh and thereby effectively impeach not just the president but the entire administration and its policies over the next year.”

I agree with Michael Steele (hard to remember that he was the chairperson of the RNC — he is probably still a Republican but certainly not a Trump Republican).

As to cages, if it has 4 walls and not means to get out on one’s own, it’s a CAGE!  Nielsen is so full of shit, her eyes are brown!

Daily Kos — Dingbat indeed!  Dingbat is as Dingbat does!

Newsweek — “I think I’ll give up goose-stepping with the Republican Reich, and wearing Republican sheets and hoods for Lent.” — You’ve been doing that for over 10 years.  Lent is supposed to be only 40 days long!

Many, many years ago in what seems another lifetime, I stopped drinking regular Coke.  So not only did I give up the sugar but also the caffeine.  I went through withdrawal for about 4 days and it was somewhat nerve racking with headaches and mood swings.  After that, no problem.

Speaking of addiction, I think it is time for a mid-afternoon snuggle with some kitties!

OK, I’m back after a wonderful snuggle!

Cartoon — You’re correct JD, John Lewis, badly beaten by Alabama State Troopers at the Edmund Pettus Bridge during the march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama would remember!  And John Lewis remained a staunch believer in non violence in the mold of Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King who was assassinated 3 years later. There is an excellent short video (4:04 min) of the crossing of the Edmund Pettus Bridge.  Having been significantly gutted by SCOTUS, the full Voting Rights Act must be restored so that every citizen his the same right to participate in the path forward in the country.

Sorry I was not in long enough yesterday to do the OT.  Yesterday was my busy day.  I was up the mountain seeing my little one when it started snowing.  I made it down 3 hours later and did a quick grocery shop but it was so slippery that just staying upright was work.  Being very tired, I kept falling asleep at the keyboard.  The snow was very wet but when I awoke this morning, it was snowing hard with big flakes.  It has been on and off all day, sometimes mixed with rain, so I have been in all day.  In the news, it is said that the storm came in from the south . . . Portland is my guess, personally instigated by a wiley  Puddy Tat!

    • I had to go out for a short bit and it was more raining than snowing.  When I came back into the house, it was snowing with snowflakes bigger than a US $1 coin.  They could knock out a cat if they landed on said cat’s head!!! . . . even a big cat like my Winnie or Primo!  Thank goodness they don’t like to go out!

    • The snow fled north, after I ate chili! 28

  7. Thank you for all the trouble you took to restore your site to its former glory, TomCat. The editor does most of what I need it to do, so no complaints from me. I can add enough bling to comments and articles to make them a bit more attractive if the mood takes me and time allows me.

3:14 Good thing the pins kept me awake.

MSNBC: So DHS Secy. Kirstjen Nielsenwas hammered when she tried to defend the indefensible for her boss and very likely will get fired for it as a thank-you because she couldn’t do the impossible, effectively terminating her career, because who is going to take her on after having worked for Drumpf and after this pathetic performance?

DK: And here I was, thinking that Louis Gohmert was the worst, ding-bat crazy, House Representative…

Newsweek: I’ve never had dealings with lent, so I had to think very hard on something I would find hard to go without for 40 days. Politics Plus popped up. Aren’t you a little glad I’m not Catholic, TomCat? 😁

Cartoon: Bloody Sunday will be linked to Northern Ireland in my mind for ever when on 30 January 1972, British soldiers shot 28 unarmed civilians during a protest march against internment. Fourteen people died.

  8. 46  I think she should be put in a cage and see what it is Like, she will learn about chain link real fast!  and they are little kids or Babies!  Just give her a silver blanket too! she sure is Unqualified!!

  9. Thanks and TGIF hugs to all! 26
