Dec 232018

It is Sunday evening and I was so tired after church and lunch that I decided a nap was in order.  I finished the updated version of the book “The Making of Donald Trump” by David Cay Johnston over lunch.  The book delves into greater detail of the spurious nature of Trump, his associates and methods.  To say Trump is nothing more than a third rate carnival barker and scam artist is an understatement.  I recommend reading this short book (217 pages).  Tomorrow is Christmas Eve and I will be celebrating Christmas with friends.  Then on Christmas Day, I will spend lots of quality time with my fur babes and doing the dreaded task . . . again!  However you celebrate the season, may it be joyful filled with love, peace and hope.

Short Takes

The Guardian — The resignation of US defence secretary James Mattis was triggered by a phone conversation between Donald Trump and the Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, in which Trump abruptly decided to upend previous US policy and withdraw troops from Syria, according to new accounts of the call.

Mattis went to see the president on Thursday afternoon in a last-ditch attempt to change the president’s mind, and argue for standing by the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which have take the lead role in ejecting the Islamic State from its Syrian strongholds.  …

“As soon as the US folds its tent and leaves, Turkey will immediately begin an air bombardment followed by a ground attack by the [Ankara-backed] Free Syrian army. Thousands will die, thousands will be displaced and will be given no haven within Syria. They will be turned away at the Turkish border,” said David Phillips, a former senior state department official, and the author of the new book: The Great Betrayal: How America Abandoned the Kurds and Lost the Middle East.

  1. This will be my first Christmas without my Mom and brother, so I’m heading up to Illinois to enjoy Christmas w/ my 90 y/o aunt.  We always have a good time together!

A nice Christmas present would be if Ebenezer Trump had the same epiphany that Dicken’s Scrooge did.  To help him out, I can envision his three Ghosts …

And the one to really might be his “Come to Jesus” moment …

    • From your monitor to God’s eyes.

    • Love your Dickensian Christmas for Trump!!!

Nameless my friend, enjoy your trip to Illinois.  May it be filled with Peace, Love, Joy and Hope!  Above all, may it be a safe trip!

Joyeux Noël!   Christmas Mobarak! (Persian)  Merry Christmas!

      • Now those are the best meme’s I’ve seen, and boy, does they say everything!!
Enjoy your time with your loved one(s), and have a great Christmas.
Thanks, Nameless for spreading the cheer.

  2. 5:15 Is that a chocolate-covered thin cookie he’s nomming? Sadly, where I live, they are considered target practice. (Not the cookies, the prairie dogs.)

Guardian – I commented he picked February 28 to leave (I suspected) to give Democrats time to put something in place. Well, Orange Judas has overruled that. He’s out next Tuesday.

AlterNet – “Efforts” is not the same as “achievements.” Yes, I think there was some success in targeting black voters in 2016, However, I think it caused more to stay home than to vote for Traitor Tot. Those who did vote for Traitor tot had other issues in addition to (and probably more compelling than) Russian propaganda (hint: not all crazy evangelicals are white.)

DB – Well, yes, if you decide to take up crazy ideas, and those ideas are so crazy that they put your family and friends at risk, you will probably experience some instances of your family and friends avoiding you. But that is hardly their fault, is it.

Universe – I know some humans who could learn from this little one how faith is supposed to work.

  3. Guardian: Shameful that tRump was getting so ticked off about the media coverage about Mattis’ departure. Now he makes it January 1, and chooses another person who knows nothing about the position. Regarding the foreign country leaders, he’s doing a great job making them angry too. Oh well….He will never learn.
My Universe: Praying for peace. Aww…Sweet.
Merry Christmas to you and yours.

  4. Guardian:  I tend to agree.  Even if a military policy is wrong, changing it must be consistent with the needs of our allies.

Alternet: While they hoodwinked some Black Americans, they hoodwinked far more lefties into not voting, writing Bernie in over Bernie’s objection, and voting for traitor Jill Stein.

DB: Even Batshit B wasn’t THAT Bastshit!

    Great Thread! 04

  5. Guardian: Hate to see him leave, at this rate, no one w/be able to rein him in. Is there anyone left?? Sad !!!

DB: Crazy is as crazy does, and it’s crazy! ugh

MU: I love yous right back, little cutie!!

Family is here, and I feel the need to feed. My heart is full.

Enjoy this Season, and Thanks, Lynn for post.

  6. 3:19 So cute, but they shouldn’t feed wildlife, not even to take a picture.

TG: Thanks for posting this short take, Lynn. Anyone who kept up with what is happening in the Middle East, knows that Turkey has been waging war on the Kurds, both those living within its own borders as those living in Syria, and especially those who have joined the Peshmerga, with their fearless women fighters, who have allied themselves with the Americans against the Da’esh. Turkey has used the excuse of fighting the Da’esh across its borders with Syria to attack the Peshmerga before, and to its shame, America let them. Now America is completely abandoning their staunchest allies, and strangely enough the staunchest Drumpf supporters outside of the US. If I remember correctly you posted a short take on that about a year ago, Lynn.
Sadly it isn’t just Drumpf who couldn’t give a sh$t about the Kurds, most Americans have either never heard about them or forgotten them already.

AN: I like your personal take, strengthened by the Aussie article, best, Lynn. To be fair, Russians can only widen cracks of division in American society that are already there; the fact that there are cracks to widen at all is the sole responsibility of America itself. And it can heal only if Americans understand and accept this. Unless Americans stop pointing the finger at others, the cracks will only widen further and people are more easily to manipulate than ever.

DB: The media would do well not to pay attention to phenomena like QAnon lest they become instrumental in mass hysteria.

    MU: So much sweetness. ❤️️
