Yesterday I caught up on replies to comments, which took quite a while.  I also went out to the drug store for meds.  Tamsulosin has me feeling a bit woozy.  I watched the Olympics and rested.  Tomorrow, I expect to blog, depending on how I feel.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:48 (average 5:16).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From MoveOn: Fire People We’ve Heard Of In A Long . . . Wait. No. Ever.

That is not the behavior of someone who has the slightest shred of human decency.

From NY Times: Mitt Romney’s high-dollar breakfast with donors at the King David Hotel here [Jerusalem] on Monday morning will be closed to the news media, his campaign decided Saturday, a change from the norm for the presumptive Republican presidential nominee.

He must be confident that the Republicans on the FEC will block any action against this criminal activity, because foreigners may not contribute to any candidate or party in any Federal, state, or local election in the United States.  Well, no wonder he doesn’t want press there.

From Crooks and Liars: "ALEC Rock" turns Schoolhouse Rock on its head in this instructional film illustrating how Washington really works.

Needless to say, ALEC is in complete partnership with the Republican Party.

  1. 3:36  Good time, but will it hold up?

  2. Puzzle — 4:07  Woozy or not TC, you have me beat.  So is Patty going to break the male lead today?

MoveOn — "If Mitt Romney wins, the middle class loses." — AMEN!

When you think about what Bain Capital and Rmoney did, more people than just the workers lost.  Bain leveraged all the capital out of many of these 'targets'.  He ran the debt so high, that businesses could not cope and went bankrupt.  So who pays back the bank loans?  I am sure that there was collateral of some sort so the bank would or may have realised some recovery.  But shareholders generally have absolutely no protection in a bankruptcy.  And who are these shareholders?  They could be mutual funds that you and I invest in, pension plans,  individual investors etc etc.  So not only not only do the workers lose their jobs and source of income,  but ordinary people lose too.  I think it is contemptible that Rmoney and his ilk get rich from this charade.  To me, this is legalised fraud.

New York Times —   In an article I saw earlier this evening, the decision has been reversed and a small group of the press will be there covering the event.  Rmoney has acknowledged the regulations that no foreigners may contribute to any US election or candidate and only American donations will be accepted.  Apparently people like Sheldon Adelson are being flown in.

ALEC — Excellent video.  That should be required material for every modern US history course!  Up with 'government of the people, by the people, and for the people.'  Down with government of the corporations, by the corporations, and for the corporations.

Cartoon — There is more gold etc at the bottom of the ocean courtesy of the Spanish Armada.  Of course European and world history would not be the same without the Spanish Armada.

    • The Patty monster prevailed. πŸ˜‰

      Amen, indeed.

Thanks for the update.  I won't comment on how much money changed hands from foreigners to Americans to donate it.

      Thanks!

Shhhhhh!  If Willard hears that, he'll buy SCUBA gear. πŸ˜‰

  3. That Mittens sure is a compassionate fellow. Isn't he? It seems to be the norm for him and his ilk. We peons are good for nothing but worm fodder.
